  1. Beleive it or not I agree with most of what dn4192 stated except for Caldwell. I have faith in Polian as long as he stays out of game day decisions. Irsay is the best thing that has happened to Indy since the Simons'. Caldwell I completely disagree! Polian and Irsay have a proven track record and they have earned my respect and patience. Caldwell has earned nothing. He was handed a super bowl winning team from a great coach with maybe the best QB of all time. He squandered a perfect season that might very well impacted the SB (I know this is a very arguable position), have made many very questionable calls, have taken a team full of pro-bowlers and turned it into a 0-7 embaressament. Without Manning Caldwell is completely clueless! He has been exposed.

  2. Painter is not THE problem. He is Peyton Manning's backup. Probably the 32nd best backup....not saying much. This was a total team effort!

Can't wait to hear Polian tonight! Will he continue to tell all of us that we are uneducated naredowells that do not understand football? Or better yet, can't wait to hear the callers they pull in "Mr. Polian, first of all I want you to know that we are still 100% behind the Colts and you and coaching staff are doing a great job. The "real" fans out here are very supportive and I remember when we were 3-13 and I still believed. I think we need to just regroup and who knows, we could go on a winning streak and win the next 9 games and maybe even make the playoffs! Then we could get Peyton back for the playoffs and go on a run. In fact, this might be our greatest year ever! Please tell coach Caldwell that we have his back and "real" Colts' fans think he is doing a great job! My question for you is do you think Addai will be able to play next week? I will hang up now and listen to your answer."

  3. Since that last Super Bowl, it is almost like a voodoo curse has been put on us. Everything has gone wrong. Decimating injuries. Nothing just seems to go our way. After the worst year of injuries we have seen in Indy, we lose Manning.

All I can hope for from the worst defensive performance I've ever seen is the voodoo curse was broken and the only way to go from here is up.

The only way to go from here is Luck and a new coaching staff!

  4. This is what occurs when you hand the team off from a great coach to "next man up" vs. going out and getting the best coach. Having Manning out amplifies the Colts' problems but the arrow for this team has been pointing down since Dungy left.

This is the end result of years of our HC thinking the problem is "we got to block better, tackle better" talk. Jim Caldwell is a good man but an absolutely clueless HC. It is not his fault it is Polian's because this is what Polian wants. A puppet that will do whatever Polian wants and not question a thing.

  5. I really don't believe that Caldwell is all that as a Head Coach. I truly don't. But what I can't stand for are the made-up mindless reasons that he cannot do the job. Somewhere along the line his calm sideline demeanor became evidence that he can't coach. That is completely ridiculous. And I found your post on his coach of the votes to be along those same lines. I understand your point much better now. And the nonsense that Caldwell cost them the Super Bowl is mindless as there are any number of plays that players had a chance to make but didn't. That above any other reason is why they lost to the Saints.

It seems to me that people just say the words Jim Caldwell and all reasonable thought is lost.

You're right on the SB. I want to blame Caldwell but it is probably unfair as your earlier post states. I think the reason I am turned off by Caldwell is the way he handled the the 14-0 team going into the Jets game. When he threw that game away I lost my respect for the man and now I find myself questioning every single thing he does. It is something that goes against the grain not trying to win a game. (I know this goes into a huge new discussion and I don't want to open up that can of worms again but wanting you to see my mindset.)

You are right about the words Jim Caldwell and reasonable thought....do you think it goes back to that Jets game?

  6. I have always been a Pacer fan. Started way back as a kid while Pacers played in ABA. Went through ups and downs but always a fan to this day. No different with the Colts. Part of being a sports fan is going through the good times as well as the bad.

Now the "national fan" or the fan that watches from afar because they like Manning or Colts always on TV they will come and go.

  7. BB - undefeated season will do that. And the point?

Look, trying to use Caldwell's lack of Coach of the Year votes as evidence of is ability, or lack thereof, to coach is simply not correct.

I'm not trying to make the point that votes = ability but rather no one gives Caldwell credit for what he has done while Manning has been the QB so his record as a HC the past few years should not be overly praised.

I know the topic of Caldwell is a polarizing issue. I assume you think he is a decent HC (fairly new to Forum so I do not know much about your previous posts) and making these arguments supporting your position are a good read. I just dissagree.

  8. So we are basing his performance off of a media vote? We could have had any coach, we were not goig to play our starters in those last two games and it was the right call, especially the Buffalo game and the weather conditions.

I disagree. Caldwell tore the guts out of this team with that Jets game. Definately tore the guts out of the fan base....which I know he could care less. Buffalo would have been much different going in 15-0. It was a team of destiny and Caldwell pulled the plug on it. Would have we won the SB? Who knows but we do know how it turned out.

  9. Caldwell I believe is 24-14 in the regular season as a head coach, he is the coach with 2 divisional titles, a SB appearance and like a 2-2 record in the playoffs?

Just wondering...what is Peytons record in the playoffs?

If the Colts had Kubiak or Del Rio as HC the past few years we would probably have had the same record, although, maybe a perfect season and a SB win. His record is not impressive. Ever wonder why he has received zero votes for coach of the year even with these stats?

  10. The thing about coach Caldwell is that you either really like him, or, you really dislike him. There's not much middle ground with him..............I'm really not a fan of his, but I'm more than willing to lay a lot of the blame for this season on polian. His (and son's) drafting ability as of late has been sub-par to be generous. Also, bringing in Kerry Collins proves to me that he's lost it............

Makes you wonder who is calling the shots. I still think highly of B. Polian but I wonder if Chris has what the old man has or maybe had.

  11. Exactly "HOW" did you come to your conclusion? Could you please list your background/references in being able to determine the ability of any head coach.

Why are all of you taking this so seriously? This is his opinon and he even states: "make an educated guess". Of course he is a fan just like the rest and is entitled to his opion. I happen to agree with him but if you want to argue that Caldwell is really the best coach then that is fine to. You can share your opinon as well. No one (outside of the Colts organization) really knows how good Caldwell is or not but we all do know his record. With Manning he has an excellent record. Without Manning he can't win a game!

  12. Exactly what do you want Caldwell to do? Suit up and play QB? Lets look at Detroit...is their coach better this year because his QB is healthy and playing or because he is a better coach?

Come on....should this team be 0-6 with the talent they have? Painter is not the problem. We have players that have lost their way due to lack of leadership. What would Manning do after Garcon tries to lateral or whatever he was doing? I don't think we would have walked over to the sideline and stared out in space. Caldwell does not know what to do. He is not a leader. Probably a good assistant coach but not a leader!

  13. Most national people put Brady and Manning in the same category. Most national people place the Colts team and the Patriots team on the same level (when both QB's are playing). Who places BB and Caldwell on the same level? Night and day difference. Manning has played for the past three years with a handicap....Caldwell. Dungy is not on the same level as BB but close. I am sure the Colts would be better than 0-6 if BB or Dungy were coaching them this year. Without BB NE would not be as dominate a team as they have been and are. Why don't you NE fans answer this question: What would NE be like with Caldwell as their coach? I would love to see Brady's reaction when Caldwell makes his boneheaded decisions. Brady would not know what to do going from BB to Caldwell!

  14. Well if it was just Peyton, then I guess Tony D wasn't that good really either and all the other coaches Peyton played for, they all stunk. Remove Ben from Pitts and do they do as well? How come Bill B wasn't able to get the Pats in the Playoffs when Tom went down? I guess Jimmie Johnson only won because of his QB? There is no way any coach could win this season with how the Colts are constructed and who is missing. When Healthy this team successed with Caldwell as coach. So you are going to punish him because his star QB was to stupid to get his health issued addressed sooner or because the GM/Owner sunk incredible amounts of Cap space into about 4-5 players? Yep that's Caldwell's fault.

This is exactly the point all of us (Caldwell non-believers) are trying to make. Caldwell has a talented team but cannot do anything without the real leader on the field. Caldwell is not a leader! Manning is the leader! Caldwell does fine when Manning is in the game and leading. You can take a random fan out of the stand and make him the head coach and he/she would go 9-7 with Manning playing...maybe better. Caldwell is a good guy but not a good coach. Look at his record without Manning!

  15. Why does every NE fan like to talk about Cleveland? I really don't get it. It really is a slame against the great organization that is in NE. Of course the hoodie didn't do well in Cleveland. What a poor organization compaired to NE. I worked at Kmart when I was in high school. Why am I more successful today then when I was at Kmart?

We all know why NE fan doesn't want to give BB his due....because they estimate Brady's abilities. Brady is a great QB. That is a given but he is not as good as Manning. Never will be!

  16. With the Saints coming off a stinging division loss to the Buccaneers....I think we're in for a good ol' fashioned country whippin' down in Nawlins.

    Saints 41

    Colts 17

Best post on this topic! I'm with you....NBC better get a lot of good shots of New Orleans, have a lot of stories about the Mannings ready and maybe even have a "I Love Lucy" episode to play just in case in really turns ugly!

  17. 1 Word to Describe Every NFL Head Coach

    From Bleacher Report

    Caldwell

Word: Disinterested, verb, (disinterest) A lack of interest

Indianapolis Colts head coach Jim Caldwell, is far from the most energetic guy on the sidelines. In fact it's tough to get much emotion from him at all.

While that is fine while the team wins, the loss of quarterback Peyton Manning means that the team needs some fiery leadership, and unfortunately Caldwell isn't the guy to do that.

Then again it's not always easy to get fired up about watching the play of backup quarterback Curtis Painter.

    http://bleacherrepor...d-coach/page/16

Right, except Painter has proven he is a more than capable backup. In fact, I think the guy could be pretty good given the chance. I am sure if Painter was in Cassel's shoes several years ago in New England he would have a similar record as Cassel.

  18. Yeah,...maybe,but we got to keep the faith, right?

"Keep the faith?" To have faith we need something to beleive in. Something that shows that we can turn this around. Caldwell has never shown that he can turn anything around. The only way this can be turned around is if a player steps up and takes control of the situation. Peyton was the coach of this team when he was out on the field. The players looked to him for leadership. Can't do that standing on the sidelines. They never looked to Caldwell for leadership and will not find much there so unless a Wayne or Saturday (not sure a kicker can do it) steps up and takes a major leadership role on this team nothing will change. We are destined to win maybe against the Jags and/or a game against a team that just has a terrible day.

I know Colts fan thinks it is a slap to think this team will only win a game or two but it is reality and it has nothing to do with being a great fan.

  19. Some people want Cowher only because he's a screamer.. Well more of a spitter.

Personally I could careless about the demeanor of the coach. I want a coach that coaches. I want a difference maker. I want the coach that can on any given drive, go to the bench break out the marker and the dry board, and work up a design, tweak a scheme, show how to work against a technique, anything. Out of all of the games I've attended I have yet to see Caldwell do this once. Out of the rest of the games I've seen on tv, I've yet to see him do it once. It might because he's never been an OC or DC. It might be because he has confidence in the OC & DC and has delegated that to them.

I want a difference maker. Someone that can add something to any given situation. Someone that is prepared for any given situation. We do not have a difference maker. Well we do not have a positive difference maker.

Great post! Absolutely true. How many games did we see where the Colts played awful and were down by a couple TD at half but we all knew that Dungy would make the necessary adjustments at half time......and he did! I doubt anyone has that confidence now. I am a big Cowher fan but Dungy shows you do not need to be a screamer or spitter to be a great coach but with that said you would see occassionaly the fire in Dungy's gut. He would get on an official after a very bad call or would show some emotion after a great or terrible play. With Caldwell you get nothing.....makes you wonder if there is anything under that hat?

I really hate running the man down because I think he is probably a great human being but that doesn't "pay the bills" and we can find other great human beings that are good at what they do.

  20. The hood is hands down the heart and soul of the Pats. He'll be remembered as one of the greatest coaches to ever walk onto a football field. He's the Jedi master of the current NFL coaching roster. To not respect this man and his team its total foolishness. I know some Colts fans hate the Pats but you gotta admit they're an exciting team to watch play unless of course the Colts are their opponent.

The Hoodie is the Peyton Manning of the Pats! He is the reason the Pats are and have been so successful. Everyone else on that team can be replaced and they will continue to win. This is true for the Colts as well. With Manning the Colts win at least 10 games a season. Without him they are lucky to win 4 games. No Colt fan wanted to admit this before but it is being played out in front of our eyes this season. Caldwell is a decent coach with Manning. Sub-par without him. Clark is a pro-bowler with Manning. Average TE without him. Wayne/Saturday/Vinatieri are probably the only players that are still great without Manning. I am still a big Polian fan but without Manning Polian does not look like the genious most people think he is.
