  1. I will say this for the millionth time... The GM's job is to build teams that are good enough to compete for the Super Bowl. There are several teams every year that are good enough, usually the team that gets hot and healthy at at the right time is the one that does. ( big credit to the Packers last year as they didn't get healthy and still won). It's the coaches and players job to come up with the plan and to carry it out.

GM's can't be judged by Super Bowl records as much as how many Super Bowl caliber teams have they built.

Polians is a first ballot hall of fame candidate. Far from perfect, but his system has definitely worked.

  2. Now with the new CBA do we get a draft pick being that we tendered Session? I think it was a 3rd rounder. IF so, great deal for us. Although I liked his style of play, Connor had essentially taken his spot. Clint has a nice upside but if you remember the first part of the season last year he looked awful. Once I saw what the Jags were offering him I knew he was gone. It would have been crazy to match that offer.

  3. New here so bear with me. Glad to see Darren Evans was signed and am looking foward to seeing him play. Watched him at VT and he has had a spectacular career there. If he brings that same game here, I see many Super Bowl rings for the Colts. Oh, and don't fault me because I'm his uncle.

Welcome to the board! I hope Darren has a successful career here in Indy. I have heard a lot of great things about him.

  4. Sorry Blair white proved really nothing last year. He still was too SLOW

OK, White proved that Usain Bolt need not fear him, but he also proved quite a bit as far as being a productive WR. He proved he can run great routs and catch. Those are the most important qualities that the Colts look for in a WR. He also has good size. If you look at what he did in college combined with what he did coming of the practice squad last year, he has proved he is a NFL caliber receiver.

  6. I don't think we are going to cut Hayden. It would be great if we could restructure his contract, but with the lack of time we now have I don't think that is even going to be done. If we cut Hayden it just leaves us way to thin when it comes to proven CB's. If he can play the way he was playing last year, before he got hurt - after his rough start which was attributed to adjusting to the new scheme - he still might be overpaid but well worth keeping around.

  7. So you want to re-sign both Addai and Hart. I am assuming Brown is still on the team and obviously Carter as well. My question is who returns kicks? If it is Devin Moore, the math of what you propose does not add up because there is no way they keep 5 RB's. Something has to give.

I, actually, liked the way Tryon returned kicks last year for the short period of time that was able to. I agree, 5 RB's on the roster is a bit much.

My question is, where did this "three years, $10 million" figure come from. I think that is high considering some of our other needs. However, I think we will be able to resign Joe for far less. He is quite valuable for the reasons everyone have mentioned. IF we don't sign him, I think we have to resign either Hart or Dom because they are the only guys left who have proven they can run, catch and block.

One thing I often see is that people are labeling Carter as a "short yardage" back. But I think the Colts have bigger plans for him than that. I think they see him as a guy that can be an every down back rotating with -I assume- Addai and Brown. To me, that is an interesting trio because their collective skills sets are so different. It will be interesting to see what happens once this lockout mess is resolved.

  8. last year I thought the Colts had the best safety core in football with Sanders, Bethea, and Bullitt. I agree with 21isSuperman when he says that Bullitt is not the best run stopping safety. However, if we bring in Mebane or some other good DT we would need less of a run stuffing safety imo. I feel like the Colts should resign Bullitt, but leave him as a backup. I loved our flexibility at that position last year, and I am hoping we make a splash in free agency to keep us strong in the secondary.

If we resign him I'm pretty sure it will be as a starter. It would be nice to have a guy like Quintin Mikell, but if we only have the money to make one impact signing- and I think that will be the max- then I agree with you, let's get a DT! At that point I think Bullitt will prove to be more than fine.

  9. Yeah, but Hughes is still an unknown in the NFL. I wouldn't be comfortable having Hughes start in place of Mathis. Excuse my ignorance, but honest question here, does it make sense to frontload one guy's deal and backload the other one? That way they don't both have huge cap hits at the same time. Is that a possible outcome? Or if next year is uncapped (depending on how it works), pay them most of their salary next year and have them have small cap hits the following years? So say both players make 90% of their total contract next year, then the rest is distributed for the next 3 or 4 years. Thank goodness I'm not an NFL GM :[/b]P

Come on 21Superman you have been on the forums long enough to know that being an NFL GM is easy! There's lots of people around here who could do a great job!

As far as your( albeit somewhat depressing) question is concerned, I think it will come down to the prices that it will take to sign these guys. I could actually envision both of them leaving if the bidding gets too high.

I think we will see a decent amount of Hughes this year just so they know if Mathis is expendable or not.

  10. Sell, I'm not entirely sold on Cassel quite yet. I can't see the Chargers having so many special team errors 2 years in a row. Chargers take that division.

Buy or Sell - The Colts and Pats finish #1 and #2 (in either order) in the AFC

Hard one, I'm going to sell just because there are to many factors involved.

Buy or sell: The Colts have at least one starter, next season, who is not currently on the roster.

  11. I'd like to buy, but I'm going to have to sell. Until he proves that he can I'm not buying.

Buy or Sell: Lions will be a force to be reckon with this upcoming season, maybe challenge for playoffs.

Buy/sell I think they are vastly improved but I think the Bears and Packers make it out of that devision.

Buy or Sell: Hughes has more than 5 sacks this season

  12. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this was mainly Chris' draft. Usually Bill has the bigger say in draft picks, but this time he let Chris make most of the decisions. I'm not sure if that's true, but I think I remember reading it somewhere

I think you might be wrong actually. A lot of people are calling this "Chris Polians draft" but I'm pretty sure in one of the Polian Corners, towards the end of the season, Bill said that he had given Chris a lot more of the draft responsibilities in the last two years, but this year Chris was going to handle most of the administrative stuff and Bill was going take the lead on the draft.

Either way it looks like a good draft so far. The last two drafts I think will go down as good ones as well. The week spot is the #1 picks but after that they look pretty solid and the jury is till out on Hughes and to a much lesser degree Brown.

  13. As absurd as these Manning verse Brady threads are, the thing that really gets me is how stupid people sound when they try to make a case about how the other guy isn't really that good.

Imagine that we looked back 20 years at a forum ( I know they didn't exist then) with people arguing how Marino, Elway and Montanna were over rated. It would seem so silly.

The fact of the matter is if Brady was on the Colts all the colts fans would be saying he was the greatest and vice a versa.

Just sit back and enjoy watching two of the best of all time and be glad your not watching Tony Eason and Mike Pagal.

  14. I think that the other positons are obvious but the Oline like you said is going to be tricky

LT: Castonzo ( will be harder after the lockout but he is NFL ready with a training camp under him)

LG: Jacques Mcclendon ( Polian said he sees the guy in a starting position this year and the man has got talent)

C: Saturday (at least one more year)

RG: Ijalana (With a shorent offseason he is not ready JUST yet, he will be though midway through the season)

RT: CJ (Consistent and tough OL player, verstaile and we can prob sign him for less then Diem's current contract worth)

Diem SHOULD be cut IMHO but becasue of the lockout there is a good chance we keep him and his ludcrious contract for his play

I agree on all counts. I think DIem still might have something to offer, but we need to free up money and he makes too much. But who knows how ready the rookies will be. Luckily Costonzo should be a fast learner. This may be unpopular (where's Cofeedrinker when I need him) but I don't think we have seen the last of Pollock. Weather it be at guard while Ijilana gets up to speed or net year at center. Unfortunatly I think we need to let the line be bad ( We've seen that before) before it gets good. There will be so many new and young faces that it will take a little while to get their continuity. Once they do, however, I think this could be the best Colts line we have seen in a long time.

PS I like the new forum! My only complaint is there doesn't seem to be a spell check which a guy like me really needs!

  15. Sell, ROTY goes to Julio Jones, Aldon Smith or Von Miller. I'm iffy on Von though. Aldon Smith seems like he will fit well in the 49ers scheme and Julio Jones has Matt Ryan throwing him the ball along with Roddy White taking up double coverage and Turner on the ground.

Buy or Sell - The Bills beat the Pats at least once this year

Sell, I'd love to see it, but I'm not counting on it.

Buy or Sell: Collie makes the Pro Bowl (of course he won't be able to play because we will playing the next week)
