  1. At least he may be out of shape now rather than in a few weeks or so when it will actually matter. I always thought that in all sports pre season was intended as a preparation for players to get back up to game speed.

Also while we are on this topic didn't Eddie Lacy look out of shape around this time last year?

  2. Tbh I always thought of Gordy as a bit of dead weight but looking at the film from last year he does surprisingly well and i'd be shocked if he doesn't make the roster this year. And if he does it must be because there are better players than him which when you go in to detail can only be a good thing.

  3. Popular one here but Richardson for the 1st rounder.

While I want to like Richardson and think he will be a productive player for us in the next few years, I really didn't think our run game was that bad. I'm a big fan of Ballard and Bradshaw, when they went down I thought we would tackle the problem by looking in house "next man up" mentality with people like Brown or even bring in familiar running back options from free agency, like one of those UDFA's who we always send to the PS or even let Havilli have more carries.

With the 1st round pick I would have traded down to try and gain a large amount of lower round picks over the next few years.

Now i'm optimistic about TRich and feel that him along with Ballard and Bradshaw could all have the potential to be 1000 yard/10 TD backs. But had I to undo one of the roster moves it would have to be that one.

  4. I dont know how. you beat peyton by pressuring him, making him feel uncomfortable in the pocket, and disrupting his timing. to do all that, you need an effective pass rush which we dont have now for 4 games. its now gonna come down to luck outshooting peyton

I feel confident in Jones/Redding putting some pressure up the middle. Hopefully this could put him off a bit.

  5. Im not all for the doom and gloom but with what info we have based off last year and the uncertainty of what we will get from Werner there is some cause for some concern over where our pass rush could come from:

Arthur Jones-4.0 sacks last year (.5 sack short of his career high 4.5)

Cory Redding-4.5 sacks last year....His career high was 8 years ago in a 43 scheme...8

    Fili Moala-1.5

    Ricky Jean Francois-2.5

    Montori Hughes-0

    Jeris Pendleton-0

    Bjoern Werner-2.5

    Cam Johnson-0

    Jerrell Freeman-5.5

    D'qwell Jackson-1.5 (career high 3.5)

    Kelvin Sheppard-1.0

    Aaron Morgan-0

    Erik Walden-3.5

26.5 sacks........Plus several other guys looking to start there first ever NFL game and just get on the roster......Thats not a doom and gloom...But ALOT of uncertainty

If we are going of the info last year we will have more than 26.5 sacks.

Mathis got 19.5 last year, 3/4 of 19.5 is 14.625 sacks so lets round down to 14.5 sacks he would get us this year (taking in to the account that his production along with all the other players will remain the same from last year, which it wont. Eg. Werner getting more used to the nfl.) So overall we wont get 26.5, we will get 41. A number which would put us joint 13th with the Broncos/Vikings/Jets and would be a decrease by 1 sack which put us joint 11th last year.

If this is the way you want to go about figuring out how his absence will effect us, my opinion that a top 15 defense for sacking the quarterback wont be too bad. Anyone else agree?

  6. We are fine. Walden and Werner will do the job.

I thought Walden was capable last year, wasn't as good as Mathis but not many people in the nfl are.

And it's Werners 2nd season in the nfl. Didn't he play 4 3 DE in college? So he's not going to be a world beater in his rookie year after transitioning. He will be a better player this year.

Plus after that I think we are in more than capable hands as far as depth is concerned.

  7. I may be in the minority here but I think we are set at OLB. I think we should be willing to give Werner another year before we write him off, Walden is a good safety net in case Werner doesn't match the coaching staff's expectations. Mathis is still one of the best pass rushers in the nfl, and I'm still optimistic with the Daniel Adongo experiment. Also don't we still have people like Johnson, Sidbury, Hickman on our roster? I'm sure for depth purposes they could all be serviceable.

I think the pick at #59 will be used on either an interior lineman or safety. However i'm starting to think it's more likely to be used on the latter after hearing the coaching staff/Grigson's opinions of the people we have on the roster. No doubt Donald Thomas is good when healthy, I was impressed with Hugh Thornton last year. Also they seem to think highly of Khaled Holmes and Lance Louis. Plus we have a big need at safety which i'm starting to think someone like Joyner or Bucannon will fill.

If I had to choose i'd say Attaochu though. I can imagine them picking an OLB if it's the best player available tactic because I really don't see it as a position of weakness. If that is the mentality they are going with and we could land someone like Attaochu with our pick I won't complain too much.

  8. Not a huge fan of Havilli tbh. Think with a good full back the power run game we are trying to install can become really good. I like to see competition at every position and seeing that we have signed 2 more fullbacks is only good news to me. What's the worst that can happen right?

  9. With all the recent hardline responses to crimes regarding nfl players it makes me wonder about what the QB situation in SF is going to be like next year.

I really doubt Kaepernick will be convicted/released but it would leave them in a poor situation imo if he is. I know Harbaugh is a QB guru but could he fix Gabbert and make him in to a solid starter? Do SF draft a QB in rounds 2 to 4 rounds to potentially start (eg. Carr/ Mccarron/ ect)? Would he still have a future in the NFL?

But this is all me speculating on what could possibly happen. Most likely nothing will occur from this though.

  10. If it's a voting thing it'll be Russell Wilson on the front without a doubt. I mean he somehow managed to outvote Peyton Manning in the greatest QB of all time competition on nfl.com.
