  1. Questioning the Golden Boy? I know, right...

Luck is in his second year. Yes, he makes mistakes. Yes, he throws bad picks and sails some balls to open receivers but he's still learning. He wants to make plays and I can't be mad at him for anything he does wrong. He's a smart kid. It's going to "click" real soon for him.

  2. Probably won't happen.

Are you ready for it?  Here comes everybody's favorite Darius Heyward-Bey.

I would really like to see Bey have a huge game...but we need to give him a mild dose of Valium to take away the jitters...and a set of corrective contacts to see the ball better....and a couple of pounds of stickum on his gloves.

DHB and his dad just need a wheelbarrow full of toilet paper rolls and just toss 'em back and forth one night.

  3. Geez, those plays will make Andrew positively anxious to throw to them some more.

....as long as Pep allows him to run the passing plays...as long as Pagano allows Pep to call those plays.

Oh boy. If those plays don't give Luck confidence with Rodgers and Brazill I'd be shocked. Tough yards and never giving up. This is going to be the start of beautiful relationships.

  4. Seems to be an Irish thing really, they're very fussy about that even when the other team is kicking.  Most of the other away venues you'd get normal sort of noise, albeit not quite as much as in an American Football game.

At times the Irish silence thing actually seems more offputting than the usual noise you'd get elsewhere, which the kickers from NZ/Australia/South Africa etc are more used to.

So rugby is like the last play of an NFL game when the team is down by 7 and they're out of time and they're trying to lateral it back to each other to get a touchdown. You can only advance when running or kicking (why do they kick it away sometimes?) and can only throw backwards, no forward passing. I'm trying to learn the rules... think you can help?

  5. Decent 10 minute primer on how a game of rugby at the top level should look is the last few minutes of Ireland vs New Zealand from a couple of weeks ago.  Ireland trying to get their first ever win over NZ after over 100 years of play, NZ trying to make it 14 wins from 14 games and become the only International team in the professional era (post 1995) to win all their games at the top tier.

That link starts at 1.23.40 into the vid with about 8 minutes left on the clock, Ireland leading and close to the line looking for a score to put the game on ice.  Many of the players are already gassed from what had been a hectic game.  As a sample it shows most of what a rugby game involves.

I can't believe how silent that stadium got when the guy was about to kick after the penalty. Amazing.

  6. As long as he plays ST all he needs to do is block or tackle. If you put him out there on defense then I think he would just be a liabilty.

If you design plays for him specifically to rush, what could it hurt? I'm the full glass type of guy, but I definitely want to see him blow someone up.

  7. Why is everyone so high up on Rogers? There's a reason other teams let him go. Not saying he can't be good in the future, but some of you already have him starting.

Because we're a fan base of believing we can get the best out of people. I've always liked giving second chances to certain players. I know we got the right type of front office with this organization. He had a ton of upside.

  8. I will kinda' give B.W. a pass this year ( jj watt wasn't so hot his rooking year also), since he's facing so much transition. But no excuse for T.R. being this horrible.

Why? It's his second year. First year on the team. 11 games with the offense. He's been uprooted and moved to a new town. Hell, does he even have a house yet? It's a one year difference. These are young players. Don't let the instant success or some players on other teams deter your judgement of our young players.

  9. Deferring when winning the toss at away games makes a lot of sense. You have a home crowd very hyped up and loud but you're forcing them to be quiet when the offense is on the field first. Takes the steam out of the home crowd.

Deferring at home games also makes sense when winning the toss. Loud home crowd for the opposing offense on the field.

  10. It's hard to argue with. I will say, however, that the O-line still isn't built to run block. Too many defenders meeting up with Richardson in the backfield. That said, Brown runs behind the same O-line and he has been far more explosive, averaging 5.6 yards/carry to Richardson's 3.0.

I think defenses are a lot more prone to expect Richardson to run over Brown. Don't get me wrong. Brown has been awesome this year getting chunks of yards when he's in. But if you give away a 1st for a running back you're probably going to want to use your new shiny toy a lot. Utilizing play action with Richardson in is ideal.
