  1. Though no one will consider losing Wayne to be a good thing, I can almost see this as a blessing in disguise.

There's no question that Luck will sometimes stare Reggie down for too long. With him not on the field, I can see this forcing Luck to develop stronger relationships with some of the younger players that will be around for much longer. It'll help Luck's development and those he's throwing to. It obviously means that others will have to step up big time, but I can now see players like Fleener and Hilton becoming the players we really want them to become.

  2. I understand that he's a rookie, but I'm always seeing issues with his accuracy. He doesn't seem to throw a "well placed ball". He's only going to continue to improve, but there are times when he looks way off. I see balls thrown behind receivers, I don't see him leading receivers. Am I the only one?

Also, what's the deal with the hard-snap and then having the o-line drop into their stance? This isn't high school football.

  3. Sorry. I am not a big DB fan from his past performances. I am not reading/hearing anything to change my mind regarding DB either. DB may not even make this team. Ballard and Carter are locks.....Moore was brought in for a reason....probably due to Arians so he probably makes the team.

But according to your logic, a running back is a product of his offensive line.

And while I agree with a good majority of that logic, I think it's still fair to say that athletic ability plays a role, as well. If you were to put Adrian Peterson in a blue and white jersey, our running game would improve--how much is determined by how the offensive line works together, but no running back on this squad has the ability that Peterson has. I think that's why people are already writing the Colts as struggling in the running game--they don't have a proven player. Same goes for the offensive line. The OLine struggled last season and already has three new starters. It's not fair for us to say that we can rely on the run game if it hasn't proven anything yet.

  4. Coltsrule91 - you may want to say up front that this was a post from StampedeBlue, not your personal assessment. Unless you're the guy who wrote it for them.

Yeah, make sure to give credit where credit is due. If its someone else's work, that should be acknowledged. My impression was that, while reading, it was you that wrote the article.

  5. Running the football is all about attitude and will.

I've got to think that physical ability has got to play a role in there somewhere. I might have the right attitude and all the will in the world, but put me in front of Haloti Ngata and let's see what happens.

I'll go as far as to say that our running game will improve compared to past seasons, and while I hope we can establish a power running game, I just don't see it happening anytime soon.

I might be looking too far ahead, but I hope--with all the cap room we have next year--we make a serious run at Jake Long. Kick Castanzo to the right side and suddenly our line got a heck of a lot better.

  6. QB - Luck, Stanton, My Uncle Rico

RB - Brown, Carter, Ballard (Ballard on short yardage situations)

    FB - A hitting dummy.

TE - Fleener, Allen, Eldridge (Eldridge always in on obvious run downs)

WR - Reggie, Austin, Avery, Hilton (He's gonna be a STAR if he doesn't get knocked out).

    LT - Costanzo

Rest of O-line - Who are these guys???...and somewhere in there is Ijallana.

    I chuckled. Good stuff.

  7. Some of the draft sites have now downgraded him into the 3th to 5th round. If he's still on the board at the top of the 4th round, should the Colts take a chance on him? The team could also use its compensation pick (from Clint Session) if Burfict is still there at the bottom of the 4th. Do you think he's worth the risk?

There's something inside me that really wants to give this guy a shot, especially since he's expected to go in the later rounds. I saw this guy play a lot at high school and he was an absolute standout performer. Obviously, the biggest concern is the off the field issues. An even bigger concern is that we might also lang Janoris Jenkins. I could see us dealing with one player that has character issues, but two? That's got 'recipe for disaster' written all over it. I know the guy is an amazing talent and deserves to be selected higher, but I'm just not sure what we'd get out of him.

The kicker for me seems to be what happens with our second-round pick. Like I said, I wouldn't mind taking a shot on Vontaze because of the potential talent and how low he's projected to go, but I don't want to have so much attention aimed at what is happening/could happen in the locker room and off the field. I'd say definitely pull the trigger on him if we don't land Jenkins.

  8. Why do people keep thinking we need to hit it all in one draft? It's a ridiculous idea really. It would likely take next year's first-round pick to move back into this year's first round. Do you expect us to be picking towards the end of next year's draft? 'Cus I don't. We might have the top overall pick again (likely will be in the top 5). Why risk trading that away now for someone, when we can trade that high of a pick next year to a team that wants to reach on a quarterback (a la Washington).

In my opinion, the best thing we can do is let players fall to us. We're not going to get better overnight so it will likely take more than one draft before we're back in tip-top shape.

I'm just saying, if we trade next year's first round pick to a team to move back into this year's first round, and that pick pans out to be a top 5 or even the number one overall pick, then a lot of people are going to be upset and we'll look stupid. It's just not worth it.

It would make much more sense if we were already on the verge of being playoff bound and knew that our pics would be towards the end of rounds, but that doesn't seem likely.

  9. I actually played against the guy in high school. He's a bowling ball. He doesn't fit the feature back role in my opinion, but I don't think having a feature back is quite the necessity as it used to be. Having two, even three, decent to good backs is better than having one star.

Less wear and tear on a player, you can mix it up with different styles of runners and keep a defense on their toes.
