Frank fail in two areas this season he placed Adam above the team and jacoby should have been benched to see who else can play because he didn’t have a track record to give him so much rope

I agree with this for the most part. I'm not sure JB needed to benched up until the last two games, but those last two games should have been a live action tryout for Chad Kelly. We gained nothing by starting JB at that point when we could have found out what we might have in CK, The whole Adam fiasco needs to be a lesson learned moving forward that you either produce or you lose your spot. We can't afford to EVER make that mistake again and that should definitely apply to JB in the upcoming year where he will be the presumed starter.

And why do you name Raiders' OL bad?! Rodney Hudson, Gabe Jackson, Kelechi Osemele, Kolton Miller... Believe PFF or not, but these guys were #3 overall unit and # 1 pass blocking last year. And this year they are in same category as Colts.

Carr was just sacked 5 or 6 times last game and Carr is not Luck so once again your comparison is worthless. Not to mention we just got Costanzo back and our oline is going to improve. It's one thing if a QB is going through progressions but another when they have to instantly dump to the safety valve. Cooper is not a bad receiver just in a bad offense right now. So i'm not sure what point you are trying to make it but you're most definitely not making it. But go ahead...try again.

Cooper had 680 yards on 48 receptions in 2017, good for 14,2 yards per reception... but 87 yards (12,79%) came on one reception! So it's basically 12,7 yards per reception. This season Cooper has 22 receptions for 280 yards, good for... 12,7 yards per reception. He is on pace for 747 yards. So you want to trade one of our 1st round picks (second 1st round pick for Bell, of course) for Ryan Grant 2.0.

Your comparison only works in a vacuum.  It's not like he gets the choice of throwing himself the ball and Carr sure isn't able to do it behind his oline. I have a coworker who is a huge Raiders fan and he has seen every game this year. His take is that Cooper is getting open a lot, even while being double teamed, but Carr is having to throw to the check down receivers. They aren't able to get off many passes past 5 yards. Cooper is obviously frustrated but could come here and flourish within this offense. It is hard to find talent like Cooper, so if you are to dip your toes in free agency then I would have done it with Gordon first, low risk/high reward, and then with Cooper. Throw out a third rd pick and see if they bite. The issue will be with extending his contract and how you structure that, but it would take pressure off of the draft to have to find a wideout.

But considering it was made by a local firefighter, I'd say it's pretty good.

That's my neighbor Ryan Feeney. Unfortunately I'm pretty sure Peyton called him Ryan Freeney by mistake.

I was able to see the different phases of this project unfold over the last two years. There is a lot of work that goes into making something like this.

Is it just me, or does this look like a promising and exciting mix, overall.  Of course, i'm ignoring injuries, but still.

Unlike the rest of the chicken little's I agree that this team could be very good, and I expect major improvements as the year goes on barring injury. Basing opinions on preseason is just ridiculous to me and preseason is meant to be nothing more than working on the basics and getting a good look at the bubble guys.

I will be interested to see how the O-line gels and who steps up for a pass rush or how we scheme to produce the pass rush, but I like the rest of the team if they're healthy. Our D-Line will be one of the best that the Colts have ever fielded and they will be fun to watch.

  6. Here are my thoughts on why we will be improved on both sides of the ball.

Everything starts with the offensive line, and last years line brutalized four different QB's. I think we will see a huge difference on the line with Kelly anchoring the center, which was by far the weakest link. This will allow us to sustain drives and limit the three and outs but more on that in a minute. Luck will actually have time to go through reads and limit turnovers, and Gore will actually see daylight and have running lanes. Our WR's are fast, but speed needs time to allow the play to progress and get open. The improved line will give the receivers time to blow past the back-end of the defense. Our over and under routes will be much more efficient with our QB having time and not always throwing on the run. So yeah the offense will be greatly improved because of a shored up offensive line.

    Now the defense.

Toller is gone...Thank God! Addition by subtraction at its finest and I love the Robinson signing. Geathers will hold his own in Lowery's loss but he still has a learning curve ahead of him.The success of the secondary is greatly tied to the success of the pass rush which is by far the biggest question mark on this team. We will probably see another year of a scheme manufactured pass rush unless someone comes out of nowhere to be the pass rush specialist we desperately need. The dline is the best we have had in years, and IF Anderson and Jones are back healthy, this group is going to be very very deep. The biggest addition to the defense is.............................................................................our offensive line. That's right, the offense line will change this defense. Last year the offense couldn't stay on the field and they consistently exhausted our defense. Just by sustaining drives and running the ball will be huge for the defense to stay fresh throughout the game. The defense wasn't bad last year, they were tired. If the offense holds the ball more this year then defense will better because of it.

So overall I think we still have some question marks, but I see the arrow pointing up and may surprise a lot of people.

  7. And they keep coming. An MCL injury is a recoverable one. Nate Irving's certainly is/was. Ryan Grigson's chess strategy continues liken to Bobby Fischer's super computer matches. The guy does not QUIT exploring new venues and avenues to explore. The epitome of hard work. Welcome to the Indianapolis Colts, Nate:)

It was Kasparov vs deep blue but we get the jest!

Yep, definitely know who she is. It's was actually one of the more tolerable shows.

  9. I can't take credit for this since I took off the Yahoo comments but it's pretty damn funny.

When you have cable, you get bored and go to the bar
When you go to the bar, you get drunk and try to steal food from other patrons
When you try to steal food from other patrons, the bartender kicks you out of the bar
When you get kicked out of the bar, you have to take a cab because you're drunk
When you take a cab because you're drunk, you give the cab driver wrong directions and end up at a construction site
When you give the cab driver wrong directions and end up a construction site, you steal a shovel to whack the cab driver
When you steal a shovel to whack the cab driver, the cab driver calls the police.
When the cab driver calls the police, you try and hide by burying yourself in a pile of mulch.
Stop burying yourself in a pile of mulch...
Get rid of cable, get DirecTV

  10. Poor choice of thread title, but I see the general point.  Would the team be better is Mathis were healthy and playing?  Obviously the answer is yes.  However, in the long run, I can see the argument that the team might be better off being forced to rush the passer by committee and force the coaches to get more creative.  The extra experience, better blitz calls, etc, combined with Mathis coming back next year could mean great things.

You my friend seem to be one of the few that actually understood what the OP was trying to say, granted he did a poor job of saying it.

I do agree with what the OP is trying to say. This team is learning how to get to the QB by using blitzes, disguising the defense, and bringing the heat from everywhere. I will also say that this only works like it should when the corners have a blanket draped all over their WR.

Obviously we want Mathis in there and that is not even a question, but imagine this defense with Mathis and this arsenal of defensive looks and blitz packages....Freaking Scary. By years end this may be one of the best defenses the Colts have ever fielded. Our run stopping is much improved, corners are better, and the safety hasn't hurt like we though it would because of the former. Our only issue has been covering TE's but hell you can't win em all. I feel really good about this team and I think we only get better as the season goes on, and we will be a formidable opponent come playoff time. I'm actually happy Landry is out because he hasn't looked good anyway and I would like to see what else we have back there.

  11. Again, like in KC -- we gotta keep in mind that a lot of the points the Pats put up were not solely on our defense.  Their first 7 came after a turnover left the Pats' offense on our 2 -- that shouldn't count against our D, and it shouldn't count against Hoge saying he thought our D could play with the Pats -- it is nearly impossible to predict, or to take into account during prediction making, that a defense is going to create a turnover for a TD or a turnover giving the offense the ball inside the redzone.

If we actually look at their scoring drives -- the first was 1 play, 2 yards, TD.  The last was 5 plays 18 yards, TD.  Both of these are not on our defense, but on the offense turning it over in the RZ.  The second to last TD was 1 play, 73 yards TD (this is on our D, but it isn't like it was a sustained drive where NE beat us up, we got burnt on the run -- and as Freeman said after the game, the run D wasn't all that bad most of the game, it was mainly a handful of big plays that made their stats look great).   The other 3 TD's that they had were good drives ---  if you take the 1st and last TD's away from the defense stats, we would have held the Pats to 28 points, which is pretty good for a D against that offense.  Then they had that one huge play.

Like they always say, it's never as good as it looks when you're up, and it's never as bad as it looks when you're down.  I think the majority of mistakes we made in this game are fixable when the film is reviewed.

Also, to Jaws' and Hoge's credit -- after the kind of year we had (fewest turnovers in NFL), it's tough to predict that we're going to go out and give the ball away as much as we did.

Wow! A well thought out and level headed analysis of our game, I never thought I would see this on our forum. BTW, I agree completely!

  12. In collage he was a force up the middle putting pressure up the middle, is it the scheme or is he still not healthy or still learning what ever the case sure hope our DC has a scheme for someone to put pressure up the middle.

He was also pretty great in Origami! Sorry I had to do it.

  13. This defense will be a major improvement over last year and the front 7 are going to keep getting better against the run. Our secondary could be the best we have in some time but a lot of that relies on the front 7 getting pressure.

  14. I think Fleener will be fine but if he doesn't show more mental toughness I could see us running more three WR sets with just Allen and a FB on the field. The great thing about this offense is we have great flexibility in the formations we can run.

  15. I think we will be fielding the best secondary the colts have had in a very long time. Once the season starts and we are game planning and getting to the quarterback, I believe we will see the defense having a much higher turn-over ratio.
