  1. I think there isn't much coming out on the Colts because after blowing the whistle on the Pats they want to make sure that they walk the line.  None of the local media seem to be offering much other than Holder saying that Suh wasn't a scheme fit and the money.  I hope the Fairley rumors are wrong no sense in paying that guy double compared to what others supposedly are offering.  I think that he comes with injury concerns as well & why would he be a scheme fit if Suh wasn't?

I think that the Colts have to come away with a pass rusher, safety, and WR in free agency.  Not knowing about Mathis, they may still need to draft a pass rusher even if they get one in FA.

    WR-Andre Johnson

Pass Rush- Greg Hardy,  the legal may be a bad image but since it was dismissed maybe not so much? Maybe they can fill the contract with a lot of legal outs?

Safety-really not sure who they get, Searcy or Parker from KC maybe.  I'm guessing that they didn't like Branch enough when they had him in for a visit? Greg Cosell has been high on Gilchrist from SD for what it is worth.   Also curious to see what they do with Winston Guy in house & if Adams get resigned?

Everyone knows you pay a premium in FA, I just hope there aren't contracts that most national media think are way out of line for the player.  I.e Cherilus, Landry, Jackson, Walden.  I'm fine with Grigs & Co having conviction on who they want, that's there job, just don't spend champagne $ for beer.

  2. Grigson needs to pull this off.  They have nothing on the roster, and the draft is very thin.  Grigson is going to hand out some big contracts so if you need to overspend on a player do it here.  If Mc gets out of NE and the Colts don't sign him then this is a huge mistake!  Plus there is value of taking away a chess piece of NE, big brother.

  3. Instant reaction is understandable but you have to give it time.

A few things do stand out to me with Grigson.  It seems with some of the picks he has made that his sense of what the market value for certain players is off.  Its almost like he walks in the store and says I want that one and I don't care what the price is, I want it.  It seems like he could trade back and still get the guy he wants.  The same could be said in some cases with the FA contracts that were handed out for guys like Cherilus, Walden, and  Landry.

In three drafts he has yet to find a CB that he thought was worth drafting when they were on the clock.  The Colts look pretty thin on talent with all of the talk being a passing league now.

Finding O line talent should be Grigson's biggest strength.  If the line isn't much improved at the end of his 4 year contract then I would be really concerned.  If Luck is still getting hammered I don't think that is going to fly.

  4. I would be surprised if Grigson doesn't make some kind of move.  If they don't trade back I can see him getting back into the 4th and giving up the 3rd in 2015 to do it.  I'm not a fan of continuing to leverage picks but with this being a deep draft I can see him doing it.  I would only trade back if they can can get something in the top eight picks in round 3 & 4 in exchange for the Colts 2nd.

  5. This $ is surprising considering the Packers aren't starved for talent at CB. Also seems a bit odd for GB as they don't seem to usually be big players in FA, I know he was one of their own, but still. Can you imagine what RichardSherman will get next year? At this point as others have said it would seem best to let Davis walk for that kind of coin. Take that money and go get Byrd. Wait until the initial wave of FA happens and see what is left in the CB market. I really hope that if they are considering Decker that he not near the top of the wish list.

  6. Yep, I can see all the pundits piling on if he walks, especially if they "overpay" for another CB. Grigson and Paganao know better than anyone what his value is in this D. Regardless of the earlier signings they have a slot for what they are willing to pay Davis. I wonder how they value Verner, Shields, etc? Coming to the Colts helped his career, if its only about the almighty $ then go for it. The biggest loss would be the 2nd rounder they gave up to get him. If Grigson & Co thought he was the long term solution they should have extended him last year rather than let it get to this point.

So if he gets 5yr/45 mil to me that is still in the range considering NFL money. Big difference to the real world average Joe. Got to believe that a chance to win a championship has to come into play. Don't see Buf or Clev being a factor anytime soon. Philly seems likes a pretty logical spot for Byrd or Ward especially with ties to Kelly.

  8. 1. Eric Decker 5 years 38 million 20 million Guaranteed

    2.  Brian De La Puente 3 years 23 million 10 million Guaranteed

    3Louis Delmas 5 years 28 million 13 million Guaranteed

    4. Willie Colon 2 years 3 million 1.5 million Guaranteed

    5. Cortland Finnegan 2 years 13 million 6 million Guaranteed

    6. Lamarr Houston 4 years 29 million 16 million Guaranteed

    what do you think?

    1. I hope they pass on Decker. I don't think there is a true #1 in FA. Should be interesting to see what effect the WR draft class has on these free agents. I would shoot for Golden Tate and hope for 4 years at 22 mil. Good after the catch and good downfield blocker.

    2. Not sure what to make of DLP, some say he was helped out by the guards on that line? Need a C, I hope that Grigson gets it right with his next pick up.

    3. If they sign Byrd or Ward it probably means no Davis. Curious to see if they show any interest in Clemons from the Dolphins. Could probably be had much less then those two? Don't know a lot about LD other than the Lions cut him.

    4. Would be on board with Colon especially at that price.

    5. No on Finn. Fisher cut him after having a second dose. Sign Davis or one of the others that has a potential to be a 1

    6. Best on the list

  9. I'm not sure how to edit my original post, if anyone knows please clue me in.

Sign Byrd for somewhere in the 5 year 40 million range. I know the Colts have a lot of spots they could upgrade but Bryd is arguably the best FA available and at a position of need. If they aren't able to resign Davis, there are still some good options out there. Worse case scenario they have TY, Fleener, and Allen coming back & a deep draft class at WR. Byrd is the best option for a big money signing option, everything else is a distant 2nd.

  10. As I understand it, the Browns will not be able to FT Ward now that they have put the transitional tag on Mack. It should be interesting to see what happens with Byrd and Ward. Others have mentioned that Byrd could head to the Browns and play under his former coach, I've also seen this mentioned by some pundits. It would be nice to see the Colts sign one of these two, we can hope right?

  11. 10 days ago from CBS Sports

    http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/eye-on-football/24447812/broncos-wr-eric-decker-my-priority-is-taking-care-of-my-family

Decker ranked in the top 15 in every major receiving category in 2013, catching 87 passes for 1,288 yards and 11 touchdowns, but a lot of that had to do with Manning. Before Manning came to Denver in 2012, the fourth-year receiver totaled 50 catches for 718 yards and nine touchdowns in two seasons combined.

If Decker wants No. 1 receiver money for those statistics, he's not admitting it -- at least not publicly, "It's not all about the money for me. It's about going to work every day and having fun and enjoying my job," Decker said. "For me it's 'am I going to have fun going to work every day' that doesn't add up to any dollar amount. That's priceless."

So Cooper and Maclin got roughly 5 mil per/yr. What do you think Decker's contract comes in at? I have seen some estimates saying 10 mil per/yr. I would hope the Colts pass on something like that. Put your GM hat on, what would be your walk away point for average annual $?

  12. Grigson at some point indicated that they got the guys that they targeted in FA last year. The problem is that a premium and then some was paid for getting those players. Probably because many of the deals were made shortly after the market opened. If they have locked on to Decker then I bet there is a good chance it happens again. Is Decker really that much better than other options in FA compared to what it will probably cost? Get the lines fixed, find some help at LB. If there isn't anything decent left in the WR FA Pool then worse case move up higher in the 2nd to get a receiver they really like.

  13. If this happens I'm done!

    1) WR is one of the deepest positions in the draft.

    2) There will be other good options in FA @ a fair price, Maclin on a prove it deal.

    3) Andrew Luck will make average receivers better just the same as Manning, Brady, etc.

    4) Both lines need fixed and LB help.

    5) FA signings last year provided little impact, so some areas could stand to be redone. Not to mention a premium was paid for most of those signings.
