  1. Just so you know, there isn't a thing any physician can do to improve a concussion.  Once the injury occurs it is entirely up to your body as to how well and how fast it can improve. This isn't like a strained ligament or fracture.  It is unpredictable irritation of the brain.

  2. I am truly confounded that there are still a decent number of people who believe that Trent is getting the short end of the stick here.
Yes Trent averaged the same YPC as Boom did in this last game.  But the Eye test, as stated earlier, is undeniable.  Trent seldom was the dynamic, abusive runner that people believed he would be out of college.  He wasn't a consistent chain mover.  He didn't punish guys.  He more often than not was dropped easily by the first defender who hit him and he never could bust out the long run.

Boom gives us a quick burst to the hole.  He is hard to take down.  He has shown that he can be elusive when catching passes out of the back field.

Trent does not give us anything on the field and he has shown that CONSISTENTLY.
You can't compare him to guys like Holmes who also was benched but maybe wasn't the right decision.
Trent has had three years to prove he is worthy of being a starting running back.  This year he has shown the coaches that even undrafted rookies like Tipton are more valuable.

I think the Trent experiment is finally over.

  3. The most important thing, as stated earlier, is that we dominated the division.  That means we get to go to the playoffs.  And in the playoffs, our record during the regular season does not matter.  You win games, you move on.  Our bad losses to Denver, Pitt, and NE aren't important anymore.

    BUT

That does not change the fact that we play in a terrible terrible division.  The only one that is comparable would be the NFC south.  That division is four below average teams that all beat up on each other, leaving no team to dominate the division.  I would go out on a limb and say that if we played the NFC south this year, that our division would not have finished much above 500.  I would expect the colts to win 2 or three games, but I think there would be a loss in there for us.  And I doubt Tenn or Jax could win more than 2 games.  Houston might be 500.
The bottom feeders in other divisions are, in general better than the bottom feeders in ours.  And that has been consistently true for the past handfull of years.
My thoughts.  Feel free to disagree
Now let's hope we can make some noise in the playoffs.

  4. Liked Werner and Nicks.
PattyMac is such a weapon from the punter position (how rare is that)
But I just loved Herron on that final drive.  He is an explosive down hill runner.  I wish the coaching staff would move on from Trent a little more.  Herron is just the better running back.  I would like to see what he can do in the future here!

  5. See this is an important thing. . . people who always seem to think they can do better then the GM need a refresher on how different signings and trades where viewed the day we made them instead of using their hindsight.

Walden was by far one of the least popular signings.  I don't think RJF was a popular signing.

    Landry was a popular signing

    Nicks was a popular signing

The T Rich trade was very popular when it was made.  Only a couple people including myself thought we gave up too much for him.  I can't remember anyone calling him a bust though.

    Great post

Most people will fight just about any post but few people will ever admit to being wrong about their couch GM moves

  6. So I was just kind of thinking about the past 3 years and some of Grigson's moves that were initially very unpopular.  Obviously there have been some flops Richardson, Gosder (?), but I wanted to highlight a couple that HAVE seemed to pan out

Three defensive players, in particular come to mind.  In his first offseason, Grigson offered "Big" money to three very unproven, high risk players that many fans were not.... well.. fans of.

RJF a career backup DE from San Fran had never really had much of a shot before the Colts signed him to a decent little contract.  Though I saw very little of him that I liked before this year, it does seem that he is becoming a bit of an impact player on our line.  He is not Watt or Suh, but for a guy making under 5 million, I think he may be developing into a very productive part of our D Line

Toler was another guy who was given a decent contract before ever proving he could be anything near a lock down corner.  With the addition of having an injury bug, he was a big risk.  This is the first year he has been relatively healthy, and I honestly believe that with him and Davis, this is the best cornerback duo Indy has seen in a long long time.  He is physical, has an attitude and FINALLY is staying on the field.  If he keeps this up, I think our secondary has a very solid foundation for the coming years.

Finally, THE most hated signing in Grigson's short career: Erik Walden.  Often quoted as being the "worst line backer in football" at the time of his mid-money signing, most Colts fans were livid with the money we paid him.  Obviously Grigson signed him for his potential and not necessarily his stats with the Pack.  But I think much of the hatred of the signing was that many Colts fans did not truly understand the purpose and duties of the LOLB in the 3-4 as many of us grew up in the Tampa 2 style.  From watching Walden this year, I really believe that he is developing into a solid SAM OLB.  He sets the edge well, seems to be a solid tackler, and AS A BONUS is one of our better pass rushers while Mathis tries to make babies.

Obviously the Grigs has had some painful misses, but I am starting to really believe that he just might have an eye for guys that can contribute to a team defense.  I wanted to give some credit to some of his less-heralded "hits"
Now if only he can figure out the same for the O-Line
    :goodluck:

  7. There are quite a few guys there moving to FA.  It will be interesting to see how this newer management works an offseason like this.

    BUT

There are honestly very few guys on here who I think are essential moving forward.  I love Wayne and think he can still be an important piece of the offense.  For him to stay, I don't think he is worth near what he made this year (Probably closer to 4 mil w/incentives).  Just looking at the numbers, I think he is gone.

I really really want Redding back if he does not retire.  Regardless of his age, he has been pretty healthy, brings a fire to the defense, and makes an impact both on run and pass downs.  You cannot have too many D-Lineman and as long as he can play at this level I would like to see him back.

    D. Butler is a nice nickel piece to keep.
Boom seems to be earning a new contract and he will probably be back
IF Bradshaw seems to be healthy, I would like him back to a lower dollar, high incentive contract
Cribbs has been fun to watch, but I swear every return he has is accompanied by penalties.  +/- return
Studebaker has been a nice depth piece

Reitz is flexible and is a good kind of guy to have
Only keep AQ if he has a chance to compete.  Have mercy on him and send him on his way if not

  8.

I'm not sure what leve Davis injury is, but I expect a Grade I he would have been back in.  Grade 3 and we'd be talking IR, so I have a feeling he has a Grade II sprain. partially ligament(s).  Not sure which ligaments, as there are 4.  ACL, MCL, PCL, and LCL.  Could be more tha 1 involved too.  We'll just have to wait and see.

Just curious, are you in medicine at all?   As someone who is, I am curious what you are basing your grading of his injury and your estimated return for him based on that injury.

  9. I love the tweaks on schemes manusky has been making the past few weeks.  He is bringing more pressure at opportune times, running more stunts with Werner and I have noticed him moving around the line more to get match ups.

It is so nice to see a defense that isn't the vanilla Tampa cover 2

  10.

    Otherwise...............

you will shake your fist at him and give him pouty lips?

I think everyone hoped for secondary help.

BUT the reality is that out oline needs tons of help, our dline and linebackers are also pretty weak.  We adressed alot of those issues in this draft.  With 5 picks you can only pick 5 players that you think can help your team.  And of course the idea of acquiring more picks seems nice.  BUT every team in the league knows this draft is deep... aka moving up into the fourth round was probably going to cost more than it would in a typical talent-mediocre draft.

Let's just see what happens through free agency.  The only BAD "pick" made so far seems to be the Richardson trade.  These others guys have had no opportunity to earn their stripes.  I say give them a chance

  11. hahah I love people who complain about how much money these players make yet pay for cable to watch NFL games, buy jerseys, go to LOS.  We are paying their salary folks!

They have the rarest of rare physical gifts and worked their butts off to get where they are. Good for these guys!  Especially guys like Freeman and Throton

  12. I 100% disagree.  I do not think it is safe to say we are done at all.  For the most part, the first few days of free agency are a frenzy, then it becomes relatively quiet across the league.  As we move forward you will see more of the older vets sign some deals with teams.  We have 18 million dollars left and this management believes we can win now.  It would be shocked if there isnt at least one more significant signing.  I could see a veteran pass rusher, a move for a starting center or guard, and secondary help.

  13. So far- I love the Arthur Jones signing, but hope to see at least one more NT signing in the coming weeks.  I like the idea of Jones playing opposite Redding on both downs.  I think that really strengthens our run defense and rotation with Moala would be pretty formidable.  I just think Chapman needs someone to spell him

Signing Vontae- It seemed necessary.  He is near the upper group of corners in the league (but probably not a true lock down corner).  We sacrificed a lot to get him to the team, and our secondary would be glaringly weak without him or the signing of another top corner.  Plus, with the apparent huge bust of the Richardson trade, Grigson could not, realistically, let his second round trade-Vontae walk.  There would be alot of grumbling, especially if things turned sour in the coming years

I think the Jackson signing was decent.  The money is pretty decent for a starting MLB and I think he is a big upgrade over what we have had in the past.  He should bring some leadership to the middle and can hopefully help some of the young guys.

Bethea had to go.  He just isn't the same player.  Vinny is well past his prime but you can't hate the signing but maybe not a necessity.  Good moves on special teams so far, overall.

The Bradshaw signing was a surprise to me.  I figured he would be gone, BUT would assume (considering last year) that he must be pretty cheap.  PLUS I am not willing to hang this team's future on Richardson and think that Bradshaw will end up filling the Brown role next year and will carry the bulk of our running load

My hopes- Interior O-line help is needed, whether that be the top guys like Mack or get a couple of mid level guys.  Either way, we can improve the line significantly.     I think we need WR help alot more than most people do here : Wayne is a stud but is old.  TY is a dangerous guy but is not the posession receiver like Wayne.  TY can easily put up 200 yards a game and then the next week put up 25.  I think we need the route running, hands guy like Wayne for the future.  I am thinking drafting that is the best option instead of paying big money for a Decker type guy.  There are some interesting guys on the roster outside of our top two, but not anyone I would be willing to hang my hat on in the future.

  14. We have absolutely no need for DHB on this team

We are looking to groom a second/first receiver.  He can be neither.  He will get another shot in the NFL.  It won't be with the Colts

  15. Guess you don`t get it that Andrew throws to his primary receiver MOST of the time.

It doesn`t matter if you are open a lot, if you aren`t the target cause he isn`t looking.

He ran wide open all the time last season and this, to no avail.

Great hands, PFF`s 6 rated pass blocking TE with one fail in 40 attempts.

6 catches and about 15 yards behind the 3rd best season D Clark ever had with Manning who does see the whole field and threw very accurately.

      Coby is just fine.

Andrew doesn't throw to his open receiver?  huh

He seems to have the best vision of any of the young quarterbacks and does a pretty good job of seeing the field.  If you watch games, Fleener does not typically get seperation from even line backers.  Nor does he draw extra attention from safeties (like Jimmy Graham does) to help other WR's get open.

Fleener was nowhere near the production that Clark was with this team.  I can't even believe you just compared them

  16. Where are Fleener, Allen, Wayne and Vontae Davis in your assessment?

Wayne should have been on my list, with his injury he slipped my mind

Fleener: absolutely not.  He had a big game against KC, but I find him to be very mediocre 90% of the time

Allen: He could be the guy.  I just don't think we can assume he is the next great TE based on one year of pretty good stats

Vontae: He has a chance to be a lockdown corner, but he hasn't been that guy consistently.  He will be a risky FA signing (if we pull the trigger) this year.

I am not complaining about our performance.  I just hope that Grigs and company can really bring in some more solid guys and find some playmakers on both sides of the ball this offseason

  17. I will outwardly state I am one of those optimistic pessimists... or pessimistic optimists.

But when I look at this team, it just seems that our talent level is very average.  At quick glance I just don't see enough talent to truly compete with the BIG dogs.  I know we won some great games this year and beat some of the best teams in the NFL, but when you compare our roster to alot of others, it just seems to be sub par on nearly every front.  I am interested to see if anyone agrees/disagrees, and if people have any other thoughts on it.  Maybe I am underselling alot of our guys, and I know that this team's 'heart' is off the charts, and that value cannot be overstated.

But I am looking for the guys that you hang your franchise's hat on.
Luck  Ty  Mathis    Adam V   Patty Mac   Freeman  (is it weird that I am most comfortable with our kickers?  ehhh)

Other than these guys, I can't think of too many that I would be upset to see go when their contract goes up.

Now, let the hatred of me begin.
    Past them I don't kn

  18. I want Trent to do well....
But I really wonder how people magically assume he will go from an absolutely horrendous year to a great one.
Yes, of course OTA's and offseason stuff helps, but it's not like Trent was brought in a month ago.  He has been working with this O line for months and months.  And he has not progressed, at all.  It is kind of scary.

Pagano has to say that.  There can't be too many guys on that roster with more self esteem issues than TRich

  19.

Also, I think T-Rich is worth more than the 26th overall pick.  He's already shown he's very good at pass blocking.  I can't wait to see how he does next year with training camp, OTAs, and more time to get used to the playbook and OL

I normally agree with what you say here, but how can you say TRich is worth more than the 26th round pick.  You could have picked tons of guys off the street to do what he did for our team.  There are a ton of bigger backs who signed for nothing in the offseason and we gave up a huge piece of our future for a good pass blocker?  I thought he did a pretty good job blocking this year but I wasn't even overly impressed with that.

If I give up a first round pick for a running back ( remember,  not too many backs are even considered worthy of a 1st round pick) I expect rushing yards, efficient 3rd down, blocking AND improvement through the season.  He, at BEST, provided only one of those.

He was just about worthless to our team this year.

I truly hope that changes with OTA's and some O line work.

We have to stop sugar coating his performance this year.

  20. Absolutely we do.
Wayne is AT BEST at the very twilight of his career.  Noone should forget what happened to Marv.  He is in his late 30's and has maybe a handful of years left

TY is a true threat, but he NEEDS a consistent, route running, good hands option opposite him to take some of the pressure off.  TY can easily go from a 150 yard game to a 32 yard game.  Luck needs a guy that he looks to on third and 5 (like a Wayne)  If we see a mid round receiver who fits that mold, we should look to take him.

Brazil, Whalen, and Rodgers: These guys have really helped make this offense float this year when we dropped Wayne.  None of them, at this point, look to be able to fill that true #1 position.  Griff looks like a slot, Brazil looks like a 4th option/ST guy and Rodgers... he is interesting.  He has the physical tools and agressiveness I like in a WR.  BUT, if Wayne is done in a couple years, are you confident in knowing your second best WR might be Rodgers (or whalen or Brazil)  I am not

Allen had  a great rookie season but we have no idea what he will be long term.  He didn't look like a Gronk/ Julius Thomas style.  More balanced.  Fleener.... looks to be more and more like a bust.  He may have some moments but he's just not reliable

This team DOES need to find a WR in the draft to groom to replace Reggie
You can NEVER have too many reliable WR's.
