  1. This topic gets me mixed up inside. I don't like to see the Colts lose, but I have to say that I have been very proud of their effort this year. I've enjoyed watching them compete. I've been pleasantly suprised to see Painter develop into a decent backup QB. I have to admit that I didn't think he was worth a roster spot after the preseason he had. I was wrong. The guys that are healthy have gone out there and given it everything they've got. They've played most of their opponents to a close finish.

That said, realistically the season is not going to end with a playoff birth, so its natural for some people to look ahead to the next step: The Draft. It's the next place that a lot of fans will find that wave of optimism that they long for, but high draft picks don't always yield success. Ryan Leaf is the most obvious example, but look at any draft and you can find multiple examples of high draft picks that went bust. How many people remember the name Curtis Enis? He was a running back the Bears took with the #5 pick in the 1998 draft (just 4 picks after Manning). He had a decent season in 1999 but retired after 3 seasons due to a knee injury.

Obviously the Colts have a good track record with draft picks and some teams have found star players late in a draft. Remind me... when were Tom Brady and Gary Bracket drafted?

I would be happy to see the Colts draft a player like Andrew Luck, but I'm not going to automatically expect another 12 year run if do get him. For now, I just want to enjoy watching the guys that are on the field compete.

  2. According to the article from newschannel5.com, CJ later tweeted that those comments were not aimed at his true fans, but were directed towards fans who made racist comments towards him. I guess I would like to know what those racist comments were. Not that it makes much of a difference. What he said shows that he is immature and conceited. I strongly dislike players who forget that their million dollar paychecks and their billions in endorsement deals are a direct result of the money that their fans spend on tickets, merchandise, etc. Yes, even those fans who make immature racist comments about your holdout CJ. Why don't you put your big boy pants on, be a man, and ignore them. If you had a shred of self-confidence, you wouldn't have responded with an insult that probably slams better than 99% of your fan base. You know... all those people with regular jobs.

  3. It always hurts when our season ends prematurely. I mope around the house and randomly bang my head against different walls. Haven't found one yet that makes me feel better when I give it a head butt.

IMO the last team I want to see win a superbowl in Indy is the Patriots. As long as Brady is under center and Belichick is pacing the sideline with the trademark hoody, I will chear for anyone who plays them. Period.

  4. Proven winning franchise stocked with veterens vs proven underachieving franchise stocked with guys who seem to be struggling to meet their full potential. It's been mentioned that the Texans are a paper franchise. They lost 8 of their last 10 games in 2010, but Oh my!... they've won all three of their preseason games. They must be better than the colts! At Manning's retirement party the Colts will hand the keys to the division over to the Texans. Until then... they have to take them from us. Maybe they find their backbone and do it this season, but I'll believe it when I see it.

  5. It's the preseason. It's the preseason and this is the Texans we're talking about. Yes they have improved on paper, but weren't they supposed to challenge us for the division last year? After a good start they lost 8 of their last 10. I'll believe the Texans as a challenge to our division dominance when they transfer their good on paper team into a 10+ win regular season. If Manning can't go, of course they have a chance at beating us in week one. The division is another story. Manning has been durable. He'll play the majority of the season. We're better on paper than we were last year. We've improved our offensive and defensive lines. If the Houston Texans want to make the playoffs for the first time ever, they will have to put a complete season together. I'll believe it when I see it.

  6. When Peyton plays...yes we will have a good chance of beating the Texans in week one. I think all this "doom and gloom" is due to the fact that other teams have their starters warming up in the preseason and we haven't seen Manning or Collie yet. Manning's of the PUP list so he should start warming up. Probably won't see him Thursday against Cincinnati, but our season opener is still 12 days away. I think he will play, and I believe we can win. Like Malakai said, Houston finds ways to lose to us. They have only beat us twice since the AFC south was put together in 2002. That's 2 out of 18 regular season games. It takes a lot to keep Manning of the field. If healthy this team should be better than the team that went 10-6 last year.

  7. Assuming he stays healthy all season I would say over on both, but I think that might be a risky assumption. Watching him play the early part of last season, it was clear that he was having his break out season. Manning had complete faith in him. He was showing great hands. It looked like he was poised to be our next great reciever in the shadows of Harrison and Wayne, but then the concussions hit. I think the concussions may have shown the one thing Collie lacks: Awareness of the defense around him. This is something that Harrison and Wayne were both fully aware of. They didn't (and Wayne still doesn't) put themselves in situations where they could get laid out by the defense. I don't know. Maybe it's because Collie runs more routes over the middle of the field, but it seems to me Collie just doesn't see it coming sometimes. I really hope he does stay healthy. If he does, there is no doubt in my mind that he can go for 1000 yards and more than 10 touchdowns.

  8. Well said pepe le piu. It seems like the level of panic this preseason has a different feeling to it, because we haven't seen the starters yet. I'm tempted to panic myself, but they aren't going to rush these guys back from injuries to play in the preseason. Also last year we had to come from a game back late in the season. We were 6-6 after week 13 and Jacksonville was 7-5. At some point a slow start may cost us a season and perch atop the division, but I still don't think the other teams in our division have the pieces in place to dethrone us this year.

  9. Reading over the comments... I agree with a lot of what was said. I think John Dee makes a good point about Spags trying to build something. He has a young team and he is trying to energize them. The colts have a lot of vets who know they have to bring 100%. The Rams have younger players (especially their quarterback) who need to build up some confidence. I don't believe that the Rams played their starters into the second quarter because they wanted to win the game. They just need to get them some solid game experience so they'll be ready for the season. We know our players will be ready unless they are still battling injuries.

  10. Yeah Smonroe... don't worry about it. I think its a good post. Some people just don't feel inteligent unless they are putting someone else's contributions down.

You know your a longtime Colts fan tonight if, after watching our backup QBs give it everything they got, you would be willing to chip in to purchase daily neck massage therapy (if such a thing exists) for Peyton.

  11. This is a tough call and I think that emotion can definately affect your view. Drafting a franchise QB isn't always as easy as it seems. Sometimes you get a Peyton Manning or Aaron Rodgers where the talent translates from college to the NFL. Other times you get a Ryan Leaf or Matt Leinart... :wall:

If we would happen to draft a QB like an Aaron Rodgers who's talent translates to the pro game and he develops quickly under Peyton's guidance, would we as fans be upset watching the Colts let Peyton go so they can get some value at other positions. This strategy won the Packers a Super Bowl, but it has also backfired and plunged other teams into mediocrity.

  12. Yes everyone is in the same boat with the lack of time, but you still have to take into consideration who was around Costanzo. I didn't get to see the game because I had to work... :ticked: ... but it sounds like he was working with some of the second and third string guys. He's out there to get the experience. He has to learn sometime and it is his first game.

  13. I would agree with Desean Jackson hands down the best of the available crop and I would also take the Dallas receivers over Ahmad Bradshaw. With Romo back and healthy, Austin and Bryant should have productive seasons and the Downside to Bradshaw is that he will once again be sharing carries with Brandon Jacobs. Jacobs tends to get the goal line carries and Coughlin has said they want to get Jacobs more involved in the offense this year. Knowshon Moreno might even out-produce Bradshaw if Denver's offense can improve this year.

  14. It would be an interesting addition. Obviously another weapon for Manning, but I'm guessing he would end up being the third wide receiver behind Wayne and Collie as long as Austin can stay healthy.
