  1. It appears as if the Titans have an opportunity to cut Chris Johnson this offseason...

Now do I think the Titans will actually cut him probably not...but I'm just saying if he were to become available this offseason do you think we should go after him?

Me personally would have been the first to raise my hand and say lets get him before the season, but seeing the way Vick Ballard has come along I no longer feel we're in need of a franchise back anymore. But still playmakers like Johnson don't come along everyday.

Titans running back Chris Johnson said this week he did not know whether his future included Tennessee. It's not hard to understand why.

The Titans have a five-day window after this season's Super Bowl, from Feb. 4 until Feb. 9, in which they can cut Johnson at no cost against their salary cap next season.

If Johnson is on the Titans' roster after Feb. 9, $9 million of his $10 million salary for the 2013 season will become guaranteed. It now becomes one of the biggest decisions the franchise will make this offseason, and one that will shape the Titans for seasons to come.

Johnson last week became just the eighth player in NFL history to run for at least 1,000 yards in each of his first five seasons, topping the plateau in Sunday's loss to Indianapolis. The others in that category are Barry SandersCurtis MartinEric Dickerson, Tony Dorsett, Corey DillonEddie George and LaDainian Tomlinson.

Johnson has missed only one game in his five seasons, and that came in 2008 when the Titans sat him for the regular season finale to protect him for the playoffs in his rookie season.

He is averaging 4.7 yards on his 223 carries for 1,037 yards for the season, seventh in the NFL.

  2. 1) Andrew Luck (QB, Stanford)

    34) Alshon Jeffery (WR, South Carolina)

    64) Alameda Ta'Amu (NT, Washington)

    97) Chase Minnifield (CB, Virginia)

    136) Michael Egnew (TE, Missouri)

    170) Joe Looney (G, Wake Forest)

    206) James Hanna (TE, Oklahoma)

    208) Robert Blanton (CB, Notre Dame)

    214) Marc Tyler (RB, USC)

    253) John Hughes (DE, Cincinnati)

At 34, I would take Jenkins or Fleener over Jeffery but I'm not so sure they'll make it out of round 1. At 64 and 97 I'm not 100% sure that Ta'Amu and Minnifield will be around, but I'm getting my hopes up. I have us going with 2 TE's b/c Luck like using 2 TE's and we could use some depth there. I personally think that outside of WR and TE we need to go defense heavy, but I couldn't come up with any defensive players I like over Tyler, at this point we shouldn't go reaching for needs.

    Thoughts?

  3. I was always on the "If Burfict is there in the 6th or 7th draft him" boat....I've moved on to the "If he goes undrafted take a shot on him" boat. I think the talent is there, the drive just isn't with him. If Chuck thinks he can get the most out of him and can get him to play to his talent, then we could have a steal IMO.

But that is a big IF...I still say if he goes undrafted take a shot on him, he's got Pro Bowl talent he just needs people to push him.

  4. Burfict won't make it to round 7...I think he'll go somewhere in 4 or 5 b/c some team will draft him on upside alone. I'm thinking Stephen Hill will be gone by the 34th pick as well, however if he's there for us, with his size and speed he's the type of dynamic target that could really help Luck

If we can snag Burfict in maybe 5 or 6 I wouldn't be against it, maybe a guy like Pagano can squeeze that potential out of him.

  5. Obviously with the expectation we are getting Luck #1,and this is assuming we get a good draft (Sanu in Rd. 2? Trumaine Johnson Rd.3? Bruce Irvin or Josh Chapman Rd.4?) and pick some pieces up in FA, maybe guys like Lardarius Webb, Jarrett Johnson, Ben Grubbs and/or Laurent Robinson to go along with Donald Brown and Delone Carter (who I think can make a respectable duo in the backfield), and guys already on D like Mathis, Bethea, Angerer and Hughes (who I'm holding out hope can prosper in the 3-4) I don't think a 7-9 record is out of the question. Of course thats assuming we can have a decent draft and can sign 1 or 2 of those FA's I listed.

If we don't do anything in FA and we don't draft anyone to help Luck on offense then I'm thinking more like 5-11 or 4-12....Luck needs someone besides Collie to throw to if not it's going to be another long year.

  6. Addai- Sad to see Joey go, he had some decent years before injuries really took hold of him, I think if he was bitten by the injury bug so often he could still be a productive back and someone to help Luck's development, but due to the injuries somewhat glad to see him go, hopefully he can latch on somewhere and have some good seasons. Grade B+

Clark- Another one I'm sad to see go, but again due to injuries I'm not sure how much he has left, he might still be able to produce as a secondary target on a top team, but he'd more than likely be the #1 guy here and I don't think he's capable of that any longer, another good move that could open the door for a rookie TE (Fleener? Charles?). Grade A

Gary Brackett- See Clark & Addai. I'm not so sure how he would fit in with the 3-4 defense, he would have been a nice veteran presence to have, but not worth the cap space. Grade: A

Melvin Bullett- I had such high hopes for him but it appears the position is cursed w/season ending injuries, he would make a nice backup for a contender, and he played good filling in for Bob all those years, but despite all that he was a really good player, just spent more time on IR than the field. Grade: B

Curtis Painter- Sad to see him go, truly am, he's the reason we're getting the best QB prospect since Peyton himself, plus the fact that he's more likely to be in an un-employment line than football pads come August, I hate seeing the un-employment rate go up. But he's a terrible QB, needed to go. Grade: A+...plus any extra credit you feel like adding.

  7. I pray it's back next year, always one of my favorite shows.

Before Al Davis died I lobbied hard to get the Raiders on but that's been buried.

As far as teams I'd like to see...

Broncos- I'd like to see how Tebow is actually embraced by the players

49ers- Jim Harbaugh is an entertaining guy

Lions- Simply b/c I'd like to see what Megatron does in practice...see if he practices those crazy catches

Titans- I have Chris Johnson as an absolute bargain of a fantasy keeper and I want to see if practicing hard to return back to elite form

    Panthers- two words...Cam Newton

Giants- Just because of the characters they have on that team

  8. If Barron, Sanu and Poe aren't avaliable (very likely) then I might be in favor of dropping back, if one of them are available they have to be the pick. I'd love to get Ta'amau in the 4th round, although I've seen some recent mocks that have him late 2nd early 3rd. Other than that solid mock, I'd love to get Gilmore in the 3rd

  9. Back to the original topic...I've lost almost all respect for ESPN. They used to be the authority in regards to reporting sports news, because they were the only 24 hour television source for sports. Now, there are many other sports networks, not to mention all of the sports websites. I think they make bold statements and predictions just to keep their name out there, but they are really hurting their credibility.

Lately, they seem to spend most of their energy and air-time giving us daily (or even hourly) 15 minute features on Tim Tebow and Jeremy Lin. They are so into overkill, until we're disgusted with even the mention of the names Tebow and Lin. All the speculation about Peyton Manning has been even worse. If I weren't a Colts fan, I would be so anti-Colts and anti-Manning right now, due to the fact that I can't watch Sports Center each day without some new "news" about the team and the Manning situation.

I've had my fill of the ESPN drama...going to look for my sports information elsewhere, since it will likely be more credible.

I agree with this 100% Skip Bayless has turned the network into a laughing stock, some of the stuff that comes out of this man's mouth is laughable, and it's rubbed off on the whole network. I've never had much respect for Mark Schlareth (sp) to begin with but some of his thoughts become laughable at times too, they spark off dumb debates between the bone-headed Merril Hoge and Trent Dilfer about the same stuff over and over again, and it's gotten to the point if I hear about "is Tebow a great QB" or "should Peyton be back" one more time I'm burning my flat screen. Mike & Mike became a joke too, because they beat the same horse to death over and over again, I tried watching one day last week and they must have devoted a whole hour to Jeremy Lin alone (Dan Patrick Show has far surpassed M&M). Not to mention SC has become a joke b/c its all debates and no highlights (what the show was formed from). I hope the CBS Sports Network or NBC Sports can form a true highlight to challenge ESPN and SC, not to mention when I'm looking for actual stories SI.com, CBSSports.com, FoxSports.com and others have far surpassed ESPN.com (and they're all free).

To tie it all back, the things they're saying about the Colts they may not actually be saying what they think, just what their producers want them to say.

    Sorry for the rant...

  10. I disagree w/the folks at ESPN, like I almost always do, most of the talking heads they have there are being paid to say controversial stuff whether they actually believe it or not, and with that said...

The Positives (all this is under the assumption Peyton is gone):

-Luck will be able to come in and have a solid rookie year, not spectacular like Cam Newton, but a solid one like Dalton had, so instantly our QB play will improve 10 fold over last year

-RB, After last season I have re-stored faith in Donald Brown, he really impressed me when he got out in space, and I think he has to potential to blossom into a 1,000 yard 7 TD rusher. Not to mention I still have faith Delone Carter, he had a case of the fumbles, but I think an entire off season working with pro coaches will help, and being an SU fan I saw alot of him, and he can be a good change of pace back behind Brown.

-WR/TE, we still have some decent options for Luck to throw to, like Garcon and (hopefully) a healthy Austin Collie, and I can see us drafting a WR/TE somewhere round 2-4 (Adams? McNutt? Jones? Fleener?) so Luck won't be throwing into a graveyard of nobodies.

-O-line, Center will be an issue if Saturday is gone, but if I'm not mistaken Richard was drafted as a Center, and I think he is best suited for that position, and the return of Ijalana, and another year out of Castanzo will help, adding a veteran Guard thru FA won't hurt either if we can pull it off.

    Jury's still out....

Defense: I think moving to the 3-4 will be beneficial for Hughes and Nevis, as they can slide to rush linebacker and 3-4 end, respectively, and should be able to become solid starters in that scheme. We'd have a serious need at NT however, which is why Poe would be a good selection if he's there at 34. We have some solid LB's like Angerer, and I think Connor has a bright future, and I'm still holding out hope on Wheeler (maybe Pagano and Manusky can help him break out). Secondary is a major issue, Barron might still be there at 34, and if Poe is gone, Barron would be an instant upgrade over whatever we have. CB is an issue too, I think Jerraud Powers can be a solid starting CB, but opposite him Lacey is terrible, but round 4 we could easily go after someone like Keith Tandy of WV or Brandon Boykin of UGA.

Special teams needs major help as well, I can't tell you the last time we had an effecting kick/punt returner, if in round 3 we can nab Joe Adams a WR/KR out of Arkansas it would be a major upgrade and we can finally have a dynamic returner capable of shifting field position.

Overall, we still have a ways to go to be a contender again, but we won't be nearly as bad as some people think, a 7-9 season is very realistic, not great but it would show major steps forward.

  11. Patriots 34 Giants 17

The Pats are angry and outside of Vegas are looked at as an underdog, so even without a 100% Gronk I think this has all the makings of Tom Brady throwing for 300 yards and at least 3 TD's and if you ask me the Giants and that D-line especially seem a bit too over-confident

  12. Marvin Harrison...he's the reason I'm a Colts fan today. I'm from Syracuse and remember watching Marvin at SU, and when he was drafted by the Colts my dad got me his jersey and I've been a fan ever since

  13. I still can't see Manning playing football again but anyway....

Should the Colts release him I can't see Tennessee going after him, they're high on Jake Locker and he looked decent filling in for Hasselbeck last year, and I don't know why they would want to keep him benched much longer.

KC- Maybe, it depends on how much they believe in Cassel, he has weapons around him so maybe they give him one more year, and draft a mid round QB with decent upside (Cousins? Lindley?)

SF- No, I actually think Alex Smith is their QB and John Harbaugh and that team believes in him, not to mention they just spent a second rounder on Kaepernick anyway.

Arizona- I can see this, I think they're going to try to get out of the Kolb contract and that will free up some cap space and they can bring Peyton and have them back to being a SB contender, while working with John Skelton.

Seattle- I just can't see it happening, I have a feeling they're going to stick it out w/Jackson this year and try and get Matt Barkley next year...wouldn't rule it out though.

Tampa- This depends on how much Schiano believes in Freeman, I think Freeman has what it take to be a very good NFL QB, he just has no WR's as Mike Williams and Areullius (sp) Benn haven't panned out as they hoped.

Minnesota- Maybe, we obviously know they have no problem going after old QB's...only thing that makes me say no about this is I can't see Leslie Frasier pulling the plug on Ponder after really just half a season, he was decent, just needs a WR to go along w/Harvin.

Chicago- NO...they have way too much invested in Cutler and when he's upright he's a really good QB and getting out of Martz's system will only help him IMO

Jets- I can see this happening..I don't think that team really believes in Sanchez, Peyton can make them a Super Bowl contender season 1, I just can't see him fitting in in that locker room, and I don't think he'd play in the same city as Eli

Miami- I think they'd rather have Matt Flynn (younger, worked with Philbin before), but I can see it happen, they desperately need a big name and attraction to compete with the Heat in Miami.

    My top 5...

    1. Arizona...it's just the best fit, that offense with P Manning, Fitzgerald and Wells would put them right back in contention in the NFC

    2. Washington- I'm only saying the Redskins because Dan Snyder will probably give him a blank check tell him to write any amount on it, build a Six Flags in his backyard and build him his own personal Johnny Rockets in his house

    3. Miami- They have a good ground game, D and Brandon Marhsall, it would be attractive to Peyton, and I think he'd like to get 2 shots a year at Tom Brady and the Pats, and I imagine Miami would break the bank for him too

    4. Jets- Only b/c this might be his best shot at winning, they're way down the list b/c I don't know how he would get along with some of those personalities in that locker room

    5. KC- Good, players coach in Crennel, Jamaal Charles, Dwayne Bowe and a good D, its really attractive, just can't see them opening up the checkbook for him like the other teams

Still...if he's not on the Colts next year, I can't see him in the NFL as a player

  14. I'd be all for Hue Jackson, he made Carson Palmer look like a good QB at times last year, and thats after missing all of training camp and half the season, and before that Jason Campbell was looking really impressive in his system, so I have no doubts that he can work with whoever our young QB will be, and they have worked together before in Oakland.

Another name I wouldn't mind seeing is Todd Haley, in Arizona he lead a career revival for Kurt Warner, and during his time there he had one of the best offenses. In Indy the offense would be somewhat similar to his in Arizona, with a good QB and two solid WR's (hopefully Wayne and Garcon), what concerns me with him however, is his young QB's never showed much promise under him (ie Matt Cassel, Matt Lienart), and I'm not sure how his in your face mentality would fit in with this young team, as that kind of fizzled out with his younger team in KC.

  15. I like the hire, sorry to all you people that really wanted Tressel.

Yes he only has one year as a DC, but he has coached some secondaries to good seasons, in 2001 as the Browns DB coach they allowed just 13 passing TD's and picked off 33 passes, and with the Raiders as DB coach they were always ranked near the top in passing D categories and at a 4-8 North Carolina team, as DC the defense improved from 92 to to 35 in total defense, so there is no doubt in my mind he can coach, and I'm hoping Mathis will flourish in a Terrell Suggs like role for our D. Hopefully he can also attract Baltimore free agent CB Lardarius Webb along with him, as he'd be a major upgrade over our current CB's.

*waits for people to call this a horrible hire as he has no HC experience and limited DC experience*

  16. I haven't heard to much about him, until I saw it on ESPN's bottom line the only person I heard mention him was John Clayton. I know the Allouettes (sp) are one of the top teams in the CFL, so I imagine he's a decent HC.

Again I don't know much about other that a quick Google search to find out he has a good bit of NFL experience, and runs a west coast offense, which seems to be the "in" offense in the NFL.

I wouldn't be opposed to it, doesn't excite me either because I know next to nothing about him.

  17. Of the guys interviewed (that we know of) he would jump to number 1. I like the fact he would bring along the 3-4, although it would take some time to bring in the necessary talent for it. Chuck's defenses have always been near the top of the leagues best D's. Only concern is that as Ravens DC its awfully easy to look like a good coach with Ray Lewis, Terrell Suggs, Ed Reed, Haloti Ngata and Jarrett Johnson.

On another note I'm friends with a whole family of Pagano's I'm sure they would keep letting me hear it "one of them" coaches my team
