I think he is what he is. He's not a bendy guy.  One of the podcasts compared him to Sheard

Not a really bad thing but just a good edge setter. Like I said, I  wouldn't have done it but it's not huge money. If u go based on what he was brought in for and his draft postion. He was not worth a 5th option. This is also a way of Ballard saving face by giving him the 5th year. Giving him the option is saying that Ballard made a good pick. Not giving him the option says it was a bad pick. Not a bust by any means but just a meh kind of player.

I thought the Dline coach was also new last year with Steichen

I don’t think it’s about saving face, but I do think the Colts go out of their way to give their (drafted) players a chance to succeed.

I hope Partridge can improve the passrush, but I honestly think Paye is what he is at this point, like you. I’d just like it if he could at least get up to his rookie pressure numbers again.

The horseshoe isn't red. If it's real, that would be an outline only tattoo and the skin is just red from being freshly tattooed. It's not ideal for a fresh tattoo to be in the sun like that either..

Yeah I was thinking it just looked raw after the tattoo.

If you believe PFF,  Paye has not peaked.  Gotten better every year.

And if you believe Ballard, Paye hasn’t peaked.   He spoke glowingly of Paye BEFORE he officially picked up the option.

Otherwise the view on Paye is only your opinion.

That’s a matter of perspective. His passrush grades have gone down, his tackling grades have gone down (slightly). His run stopping grades have gone up.

People will point to sacks, but his overall pressures have fallen with 28% (39 to 28). 28 total pressures on 410 passrush snaps is nearly NT levels of bad.

He’s not a pass rusher, but an edge setter and we needed a passrusher when Paye was drafter. In that regard he’s been a failure (so far). Hope he ups his pass rush game, but he needs to be a lot better.

The downside of using No.8 is if Cousins plays well for 3 years (say), and they haven't made the SB but have made an NFCCG and divisional round (say), they have put Penix in a bad situation and still have nothing to show for such a high value No.8 pick. Penix could get disgruntled like Jordan Love did with Rodgers around asking for a trade and the Falcons have nothing to show for but a stubbornness to not trade Penix Jr. at that point. If Penix Jr. plays after 3 years and is average, they have the same dilemma again 2 years later. So what value did that No.8 pick truly give them?

These aren’t the only two scenarios though.

    What if Cousins gets hurt?

What if Penix looks really promising and after 3 years they don’t have to hand Cousins another big contract?

I can see why the Falcons did it. Say Cousins balls out, the Falcons may not be in position to draft a good QB again for a while.

Not saying I think it’s the best move they could’ve made, but there are logical reasons for it.

Doesn't mean he's the only player they would have moved up for, but that report suggests he was one of their targets.

Agree. They may have been calling the Cards at 4 for Harrison and then just kept offering to trade with teams every pick there after until Nabers, Odunze and Bowers were gone.

Partridge just seems like players will love playing for him.

The little I have saw from him, just gives me more hope that he will take the DL to the next level with his coaching.

He and Gus were so hyped for Latu!

Steichen knew Partridge loved the pick they way he talked when he entered their room!

I agree 1000% with this line of your statement

They need "GOOD" corners, but not great to be succesful in this defense

    Exactly this.

Look at this. Lawrence had a full 8 seconds to throw the ball. Better corners are not going to change the outcome of a play like that.

I agree.  Now maybe Partridge can help him improve.  That would be great.  But I can also see his snaps going down with Latu starting.  I read where Latu is also very good at setting the edge.  And you have Dayo competing for snaps as well.   Maybe Kwity can move to the other side?  Lots of possibilities.  I would think the odds of him  exploding and having a record year are very long.  So deciding to give him all that guaranteed money makes no sense for me.  Follow the Pittman path.  They are waiting to the last day so it’s obviously not an easy decision.

I think Paye’s snaps could drop.

I know it would seem like Latu fits best at LEO, but Latu has actually been most productive from the QBs strong side - REO.

On pass downs I could see Ebukam at LEO, Dayo, Buck and then Latu at REO.

I want to know what team Ballard made that call to to trade up. He didn’t deny calling AZ when asked about Harrison.

Someone reported the Colts and another team were calling everyone and the calls didn't stop until Bowers was picked. Can't find the tweet though.

Yeah, quite the opposite. In this case, Ballard went out of his way to defend AD publicly. I have little doubt that the off field concerns played a part in AD being the 10th WR to be drafted, when he's probably the 4th or 5th most talented prospect in the class (IMO). But it does the Colts no good for Ballard to acknowledge that in the presser.

Instead, you call out everyone who wondered about AD's character, and you talk about how lucky you are that he was still available when you were on the clock (even though you traded back instead of drafting him yourself). To me, it's clearly coachspeak.

But this doesn’t really fit with Ballard defending Stroud last offseason though? IIRC he did so after the draft?

He can wear the monitor during games, but not an insulin pump. So he'll have to be ready to regulate his levels at all times, and I bet practices and game days are the most difficult. Especially training camp, with the potential for dehydration.

I'm pretty sure monitoring his diabetes is not something that can be included in his contract.

If he hasn't already, he should get in touch with Mark Andrews. He has a whole routine and has been managing it since he was 9. Thankfully for him, his dad is a doctor, he had older siblings helping him, and now it's just second nature. I don't know what AD's whole situation is, but if he takes it seriously and has the proper discipline, it doesn't have to cause him issues.

I would think the Colts would get a guy to follow him around 24/7 basically for a year or two until it’s routine.

Am I the only one that has full confidence in Hull, Sermon, and Goodson to get us through a few games?

I've LOVED Hull's drive ever since the combine where he ran every drill into the end zone. Sermon is good behind this line, and we saw that last year. If Goodson is RB4, we're set; just please, don't pass him the ball on 4th down.

Depends on how many games we're talking about. If they need to cover half a season for JT I think we'll notice a drop off. Hull is pretty unknown even if he had a good camp last off season. I imagine Ballard will add a veteran.
