  1. Ex- Charger fan here. In 2018 Rivers had a crappy Oline, yet still managed to have an MVP year(would've won MVP had Mahomes not emerged). In 2019, they lost Pouncey and Okung for long periods. That Oline went from bad to trash real quick. The significant increase in INT was due to constant pressure and getting murdered in the pocket. NFL Game Pass is free. I'd encourage you to watch the Steelers game and Vikings game to see how awful that oline was. Or any of the other games for that matter. Rivers is finally getting a few things he hasn't had in forever. Good Coach(hasn't had since Marty 06), top oline(hasn't had since 2009), good run game(2007), and with the addition of Buckner I'd imagine your D won't be bad. With a well balanced team(something Rivers really hasn't had since first few years), I don't think he'll be forced to play hero ball, chucking up deep passes into triple coverage to try and keep game alive. Lynn's coaching style was very poor and used up all 40 seconds of each play, limiting number of possessions. Their play calling was also predictable - run, run, throw on 3rd and long. Didn't take a defensive mastermind to shut them down. I'd imagine Rivers will be in great form next year. I think decent yardage, solid increase in TD's, and low amount of INT. I am truly hoping he can show the world he isn't washed up, and that the Chargers are just a garbage organization that didn't know how to win with a future HoF QB.
  2. Posted this before, but Lifelong Chargers fan here. Unfortunately now without a team due to what the Chargers did to SD and Rivers. Been excited to see where he lands for next team. Been lurking this board because for me it is the #1 place I'd like to see him go. I understand without being a fan and watching a team week after week, you can't really grasp how everything went down. All you can rely on is the stats and win/loss column. Now, I could be completely wrong, and maybe last year was a sign of his decline. But as someone who watched every single game multiple times from 2019, that offensive line was pure trash. Watch the steelers game if you really want to see how bad it was. The offensive line was constantly crumbling around him. Not to say some of the INT weren't on him, but the offensive line and play calling were overall bad. Rivers would've been MVP in 2018 and taken his team to the #1 seed, had it not been for KC moving on from Smith and starting Mahomes. That was with a bad oline too. I'd hate to imagine he went from MVP level to retirement level in the span of a season. The reason I'm excited for Colts as a landing spot is because he will have a few things he's never had - a top oline(hasn't had since 09), good coach, solid run game(hasn't had this since 08), and ownership that actually cares about winning. I haven't seen any of the Colts games outside of Colts vs Chargers week 1, but I can see 6 of your 9 losses were by 7 or less. And JB's numbers looked mediocre. I'd imagine if you got a QB like Rivers who could play like he did in 2018, you add some more wins to that column and become competitors. But I completely understand the sentiment coming from the people who don't want to see Rivers there. All you see if a QB nearing the end of his career coming off the worst statistical season of his career. But I believe Rivers behind a good oline, with a run game, he can still play at a high level.

Yes, Rivers has only made one Championship game, but this wasn't due to his lack of play or talent. It's a 52 man team, and you need a team to win. 06 and 07 were his best teams. 06 they lost to Patriots because of a number of awful plays by the team. In 07, in the AFCCG he played on a torn ACL with LT sitting out the game with an injury - playing an undefeated Patriots team on the road. I don't think any Chargers fans were really expecting the upset with all those factors. In 08 they were 8-8 and weren't expected to do anything in playoffs, but happened to beat the colts. And in 09 lost a 3 point game in where our kicker missed 3 FG. After 09, the offensive line went on a decline and was never properly fixed. The defense was mediocre from 2011 - 2017. Meanwhile Rivers stats were always solid, minus a couple bad turnover years(which was due to awful offensive line play). Check out his stats from 2010. He was throwing to 2nd - 4th string WR that year because Jackson held out. Add to the list having nothing but garbage head coaches and owners that don't have winning mentality.
