Here's some food for thought... Just how much did Ballard want Sneed? Because Sneed is a CB who played a ton of press-man with the Chiefs... Is Ballard moving away from the off-coverage that he seems to like? Or at the very least - is he trying to diversify the coverage we are playing a bit? If so... again, Kool-Aid played the most press-man and at a high level from any player in the draft(he has over 500 snaps in press-man the last 2 seasons). The other one is... Arnold(over 300 snaps in press last season and a half), but he's a bit under the 32" arm length threshold.
Who knows if the other team was colts. Seems like maybe it was.

I wasn’t that excited for the draft. But going to have a little more patience to see what Ballard does before the draft.

Yeah 1st part makes sense, but maybe a move like that will help Gus be a little more unpredictable. One could hope... Doubt it, pretty stuck in his ways.
I don't think we have any, real big needs at the moment. Outside of a veteran Safety. I like where the roster is sitting (minis a couple moves I expect to happen sooner than later), I know quite a few don't agree, but that's where I'm at.
Just need to add some more pieces to complete some rooms.
To be fair, even a lot of Colts fans are saying those are our biggest needs. I'm just looking to make the rooms 4-5 deep, wherever it happens. (Pitt, Pierce, Downs, rookie, Dulin)(Brents, Flowers, Moore, Jones, rookie)
BPA and let's roll.
Really though, how many different positions are in play at #15? No particular order.
WR
CB
DE
DT
TE
I can't see anything else, unless Ballard has an option of one of the top 3 Tackles. I don't see it, but the only other possibility in my mind. Well, plus trading down.
I agree with you. Get the safety room fixed and there really isn’t any huge holes. What they can use is more high end talent. My guess is Ballard has bowers up there at 15 if he is there. But they don’t need to take a TE anywhere in the draft unless he is still there at 15.

Yep, my thinking as well. If we took a guy like Murphy (or Newton) and they worked out, it could be MASSIVE for our interior pass rush.
Won’t do crap if we have a bad secondary. That secondary needs fixed.

Then fix the secondary.

We've seen Ballard cut players with not insignificant money or resources invested in them. He can easily just cut Taven Bryan after camp if we get a highly rated DT in the draft... Or hell even if a 3d-4th rounder outperforms Bryan... Or Adebawore... Or... Eric Johnson... Or multiple of them.
He just signed Lewis. Signed Grover to a big contract. Then paid Davis good money. I feel 100% he isn’t taking a DT. Now if for some reason Turner falls an edge maybe. But I doubt that is happening. There will be elite offensive weapons and probably some highly rated CB there. The moves Ballard made in the FA period don’t scream DT pick.

No need to cut anyone. The rookie would replace Buckner next year. If there is a great DT prospect. It wouldn't be a wasted pick
We are talking about this year. You can’t keep that many without cutting someone or another position is going to have no depth. Wasting a puck at 15 on a DT does not improve thr team this year.

No it isn't. This is the last year on Buckners contract. The draft isn't just for this season.
Who you cutting. We just signed Grover and David to not so cheap co tracts. Ballard is paying that dline a ton of money. That isn’t a need right now.

Think it's going to be Bowers or WR, but I hope it's Bowers or DE/DT. WR in the 2nd.
We don’t need a DT right now and that is a waste of a pick.
-
It’s going to be Bowers, CB, or WR. If it is WR I imagine they could trade down a few spots.
-
Rick Venturi today on the radio said he is more of a fan of speed with corners then what Ballard has done. He said young corners have to be able to recover from mistakes. I would almost like rodgers instead of Brent’s.

This is spot on. Small market, and people want to think a St Elmo's steak, the combine and Manning's legacy is enough for people to want to just come to Indy to play. We don't have the night life, climate, roster or tax breaks to incentivize anyone to come here. So the only way to do it is money. We would automatically have to mark up every offer we want to make by 5-10% to have a chance at most of the top guys. And the unfortunate reality of first tier free agents is that their value already gets marked up 20% to that players actual worth, so Ballard is probably out before the real negotiations are even taking place. We can afford to do that move for like ONE marquee player when the roster is ready....but not now, not on a good player who hit free agency because their former team didn't find them important enough to keep them. We can never fall back on the fact that a we can lure a player here because of external factors.....because those will typically work against us. There was extensive discussion about this on page 48 of this thread.
This is one very big reason we have to hit on the draft. Because guys we draft do want to stay. So growing our own is very important.

Sounds like you warmed up to CB at 15 instead of a WR which I agree with. Someone like Terrion Arnold wound be a game changer and welcome addition. Can’t forget that a little bit ago Sauce Gardner came into the league and had instant success and was DROY. I feel that AR will elevate the offense more than some think it will. Rather go WR at pick 45 or trade back into the first and pick up Xaivier Worthy.
I was never against corner at 15. What I was displeased about is some kind of vet as insurance because none of of corners are proven. Now I would rather have a offensive weapon but always been ok with a CB.

I am sure colts will put the video up later.

If we get Blackmon back and sign a vet FS I think I am ok with that. Then we can get a stud at CB maybe at 15 or even 46. Those first two picks will be very important.

Like I thought. He is very patient. Upgrades are in the works but at the right cost. Otherwise he moves on to plan B.
Ballard also told press they have started talks with Blackmon. Holder just said on radio he thinks they will also sign a FS.

Ballard said today they have started talking to Blackmon again. It’s moving in a positive direction. Holder thinks they will sign a FS too. He said he doesn’t think colts liked the FA market at CB.

Glad to see Ballard acknowledge the secondary still needs work. I think this might of come from a sit down with colts podcast and not his presser but not sure.
In the defensive backfield, though, Ballard said there could be opportunities to do more through free agency in the coming weeks.
"We know we need to add and there's still some vets out there that we will definitely pay attention to," Ballard said. "But there's still work to be done."
The Colts like some of their young cornerbacks and safeties, and believe JuJu Brents, Jaylon Jones, Dallis Flowers, Nick Cross and Daniel Scott all have upside as they enter Year 2 or Year 3 in the NFL. Ballard specifically discussed those cornerbacks on Tuesday.
"No question we got work to do in the secondary still," Ballard said. "But I like our three young corners. JuJu's gotta be healthy, we gotta get Dallis back healthy, we think we will. We think JuJu will be back healthy. We think both of them are very good. I think we underestimate what Jones did. I thought Jones played really good football last year and did it against some very talented wideouts and never once backed down. He's going to continue to get better. We think these guys are going to continue to get better."

Hopefully Ballards presser is up later because media isn’t giving us anything.

Ballard goes dline and then at end of season wonders why they could g get pressure. Well you didn’t fix the secondary.

If we were to open today Cross and Thomas are our starters at safety. That’s a recipe for disaster. Neither one has proven they are full time NFL caliber starters. The cornerbacks are a hope and a prayer right now as well. Hopefully the 1st pick goes to the secondary where an immediate starter can be found found and is needed.
Plus there is no one behind them lol.
Just now, Yoshinator said:I took a break from the forum for a couple days. Went to the casino with my dad on back-to-back days. We had some fun playing blackjack. Ended up winning $182.50 profit between the two sessions. Seems like things are mostly the same here. Was hoping for a secondary signing lol.
May watch Ballard and Steichen comment on the owners meetings, it's just another thing where I'd yell at them through the computer screen lol. Don't know who I'm more mad at, Ballard, or the media for enabling him by asking softball questions and feeding his ego.
Ballard is having his presser right now.

I am just talking with pick 15. Taking a dline at 15 is a waste of a pick.

Ballard is having his media presser now.
Colts have the 15th pick in the draft. (MERGE)

There is usually no reason to trade for a WR With these drafts always loaded. Unless your a team just loading up for a SB and everything else is in place.
