  1. lulz @ pooping in a sock. You are a colorful fella, maynard.

Irsay is a man of principle. Perhaps this is why he insisted on a "fair" deal.

I understand the sentiment, truly. I mean, he rightfully would have deserved every penny of a $30 mil/year contract, but I think he should have let Peyton call the shots on how little would be acceptable. It kind of comes across like the rich guy at your table in a fancy restaurant that insists on paying the tab, but you're like, 'no, really, I got it', but he just keeps on insisting, not so much as a gesture of generosity, but more so as a gesture of superiority. Know what I mean?

  2. Okay, considering that Peyton was willing to take even less money than he signed for, does anyone else feel like pooping in a sock and smacking Jim Irsay upside the head with it for insisting that Manning make at least as much as Brady?

I mean, I'm wondering how much less he would have taken? Irsay might have deprived his team and Peyton of getting more impact free agents and robbed Manning of the stamp he could have put on his career as the ultimate team player (even more so than he is seen as now) by taking who knows how much less than he could have had. Irsay, that was very foolish! I've got a sock waitin' for you buddy!

  3. Ok we all realize that Moss is not coming here. Yet with our WR injuries at the end of last season were a glaring issue. What about getting James Hardy from the Bills. Guy is a work in process but, What a great redzone target that would be. He could probably be gotten for cheap too.

Why haven't we given Manning a big WR to throw the ball up to? Someone that could just go up and get it. Would make our offense more dynamic that is for sure.

Thanks, but no thanks. I'm good on Hardy, but a big receiver would be nice, for sure. Is Malcolm Floyd from the Chargers still available? I'd be all for that! That'd be a longterm fix for the aging Reggie Wayne situation also.

p.s. - the saying is 'work in progress', not 'work in process', fyi

  4. Lets see 56 mil/ 6year = ummm = umm..... well more then 5 mil a year. yes.

$5 million/year is what they're asking for in return. That could mean they want a player (or a compilation of players) in the $5 mil/year range in exchange for Samuel. Probably cause they need the additional cap space to renegotiate DeSean Jackson's contract cause he's holding out. Or it could mean $5 million cash. I've seen trades in the past that were for cash, or cash was part of the deal.

  5. Okay, okay, sorry about the misleading title. I promise I won't do that anymore, I was just trying to get people's attention so they'd read the thread and respond. I understand why it ticked some people off and thusly won't do it anymore. You guys are all Colts fans too and I don't want to tick you all off. Thanks to those of you that gave your feedback!

  6. Theres no way Randy Moss is going to take 1-2 mill a year. Look more around 4-5 a year.

I think he will. There aren't alot of teams fighting over him, and he wants to play for a team with a legit shot at winning a super bowl, so I don't think it's entirely unrealistic. If he does demand in the $5 mil/year range, simply put, we definitely won't be signing him. But I don't think anybody is gonna want to pay him that much, unless on of the teams (Cincy, Tampa, Chicago) that are 10s of millions under the cap just sign him to get up to the cap minimum.

That being said, even if we don't get Moss, that's okay. What I really want is Dahl and Leach! And CJ resigned... The running game is key to our success now and in the future. Look at Elway in the twilight of his career. The Broncos running game won those two super bowls for him and allowed him to play as long as he did. I'd really like to see the same for Peyton!

  7. Here's my little pipe dream (but somewhat realistic) scenario for what I'd like to see the Colts do in the upcoming weeks.

#1- sign Manning (then we know what cap space we're working with)

#2- cut Ryan Diem (saves $5 million towards the cap)

#3- sign Harvey Dahl, OG from Atlanta (he's a monster run blocker with good pass blocking skills as well)

    #4- sign Randy Moss to a cheap 1 year contract ($1-$2 million/year)

#5- resign Addai (if the price is right, which I think it will be)

    #6- resign Charlie Johnson

#7- sign Vonte Leach, FB from Houston (he's seriously a monster blocker, the reason Foster has done so well)

#8- in a package deal, trade Anthony Gonzalez and Pierre Garcon to one of several teams in desperate need of WR depth (there are several teams that seriously have WR depth issues after lossing their WR in free agency) in exchange for a solid run stuffing DT (and possibly some depth at LB)

#9- restructure the contracts of Kelvin Hayden and Dwight Freeney to free up a bit more cap space

I think this scenario isn't all that unrealistic, as far as the numbers go. If we pulled it off, we'd have a serious running game, which would bring the play-action passing game back into the picture, which Randy Moss would capitalize off of while simultaneously stretching the field to open up the underneath patterns and open up the running game in return. I would have loved to have seen us pick up Mebane and/or Weddle and/or resign Session, but as long as we can find some kind of big body to help a little with the run defense at DT, we'll be fine. Manning is only gonna be able to shoulder the weight of this team for so long, so strengtening the run game will be a huge benefit in many ways, such as: saving Manning's arm which will lengthen his career, it'll open up the play action passing game, and we'll be the one's eating up clock so we won't have to worry as much about other teams running it down our throats.

Both Harvey Dahl and Vonte Leach are very attainable and would do loads of good for our running game. I'd really like to see us make an attempt to acquire them. As far as the WR situation, Garcon and Gonzalez are both in the last year of their contracts, so we'd have to figure out the future WR situation at the end of the year either way. Moss is only a one or two year solution, and Wayne is getting older too, so next off-season we'll have to address that, probably in the draft. With my scerario, we'd have Wayne, Moss, Collie, White, and Gilbreath, which I think is an awesome lineup at the position.

I'd like your feedback as well as your 'pipe dream scenarios', thanks.

  8. I think the three you said will do just fine. Its the depth that I'm concern about. With our DLine so small it puts that much more on our LB

I'm thinking that once the Manning deal is done, we'll more than likely pick up an adequate backup linebacker that some other team cut, plus we have the undrafted rookie linebackers too, which we'll develop over the next 4 years or so, turning them into very good players, at which point they'll be signed by the Jags or Titans.

  9. Hopefully this joke doesn't come back to bite me in the rear, cause the Pats could very well lose their starting RB (Green-Ellis) and if Addai hasn't been signed yet, I could see them making a go for him. That would be very depressing! :FBcry:

  10. With Marshall getting ready to be inducted into the HOF and the first player drafted by the Indy Colts to go to the HOF. Clearly Marvin and Peyton are going. Who else do you see going if any from this team. Freeney? Wayne?

That's a tricky question... If both Freeney and Wayne put in another 2 or 3 productive seasons with around 10 sacks/year and 90 catches,1000 yards, 10 TDs/year, and the Colts win at least one more Super Bowl during that span of time, then I'd say they both eventually make it into the HOF. Mathis' numbers are very similar to Dwight Freeney, but somehow, unless he has several monster seasons and another SB ring, I don't see him making it. The only other player with even a chance is Dallas Clark. If he plays another 5 seasons or so keeping up his usual numbers and gets at least one more ring, I could potentially see him eventually getting in too.

If we don't get anymore rings, though, nobody other than Manning will be getting in.

  11. Yet you not ticked off Manning is killing this team if he does not sign soon........We are not i say Again we are not going to the playoff with the crappiest defense around the league.

You say he's killing the team, but the team would be nothing without him in the first place, dude! I can't possibly be ticked at Manning. He has made this franchise what it is (the good parts anyway). I have a hunch that he's not sure that he wants to be here, and I really can't blame him. He deserves to have a handfull of super bowl rings, and it's not his fault that he doesn't. He's been getting all of this critisism over the years for not being able to win the big games, but it's not his fault. He's done everything possible to make things happen, but the Colts' ownership definitely hasn't! If you put Manning on the same team that Montana played for back in the 80s and 90s, he'd have six or seven rings! If he held a press conference today and publicly said, 'to heck with the Colts', I still wouldn't be mad at the dude. I'd totally understand where he's coming from. heck, he deserves $40 million a year, the cap just doesn't make it possible. The people I'm ticked at are the Irsays and Polian! Those guys can suck it!

  12. You do realize it takes two to tango, right? Obviously Polian wants to get a deal done now, but if Manning is not ready to sign then there is nothing Polian can do. Polian was ready to work on a deal last season, but Manning took the road of I will not discuss contracts during the season and was applauded. Also, with the lockout Polian and Manning could not discuss contracts so they are probably now just getting a chance to talk numbers.

Our front office's hands are tied a bit with Manning being franchised. They need to get a contract done with him before they can do much. You do not want to go out and re-sign Bullitt, Session, JA, CJ and Mookie and then find out you cannot afford the first year cap hit of Manning's contract.

Manning's new contract will dictate what we do the rest of free agency.

I realize all of these points you are making, but I can just tell this isn't going to work out well for us. It might be a week or two before the Manning deal gets done, and by that time I'm assuming that several of our own free agents will be gone as well as the majority of all of the worth while outside free agents. We'll still have a decent team, we'll probably make the playoffs, but we're not going to go anywhere after that. I've had about all of that scenario that I can take, you know what I'm saying? I'm really hoping that we'll hear by the end of the day that Manning has been signed to a deal that creatively makes him highest paid yet only counts so much against the cap this season so we'll be able to start actively signing people. I want Addai, CJ, Session, Bullitt, and Adam V to be resigned. Then I want us to go out and sign DT help (I'd love Mebane but we won't have the money, I'll settle for any big body that won't get pushed around and can stuff the run), a veteran OL (preferably a good run blocking guard, Harvey Dahl would be awesome!), and I'd love to see us sign Vonte Leach, the free agent FB from Houston.

ps- your profile pic is awesome!

  13. I feel ya Bayone, this is ridiculous! At this point I'm questioning whether my loyalty lies more with Manning or the Colts. I started as a Colt fan back in 86', but at this point, I think I'm rooting more for Manning than the Colts. I'm just about at the point where I'd like to see Manning leave and find another team where he can win some * super bowls! I think I'd honestly be more enthusiastic about the Colts right now if they just went ahead and started the rebuilding process. Just trade off everybody with any value and load up on young talent and future draft picks. At least then there'd be reason for optimism... It sucks to watch all of these quality free agents that could help us get over the top getting picked up by everybody else while we sit around and do nothing. No Manning deal, none of our free agents signed, no outside free agents signed, just a bunch of undrafted nobodys that'll only help maintain the status quo of mediocrity. Here's to another season of the Colts scrapping by to make the playoffs (if we're lucky) and then getting our * kicked in the playoffs, and watching Manning exit the field with that look on his face like he just got lectured by his dad for not doing his chores.
