  1. Dear God, look at all the scenarios in his post. That is a staggering amount of things to have happen. On top of that, we know nothing about the severity of the injuries. Forecasting doom and gloom without knowing all the facts, expecting the worse - is that not the very definition of a Chicken Litte?

Hey dude, I said I have a sick feeling about it, not 'oh my god, this is what's going to happen!'. Just worried about what could transpire and I overexaggerated my stance to get my point across. That's all man. I really hope we all stay healthy and don't have to bring anybody else in. That would be the best case scenario IMO. I just have a bad feeling it isn't going to work out that way, ya know?

  2. if he was asking for a 1 year, he would have been signed 2 weeks ago when the rumors started. no doubt about it.

the rub is that Moss is not settling for anything less than a 3 year deal, which Indy does not want to give him. sounds like they are firm on that stance. Housh is another story. he is only seeking a 1 year contract.

ahhh, I see. I didn't know that, thanks for the info.

  3. Or are we about due for another preseason game?

It must be, after seeing multiple threads of:

    "O M G!!! Let's Sign Randy Mocho-Manzedah-Owens!!!!!", and

"Man, I wish Curtis Painter were as good looking as Ryan Mallett!!!!"

Next preseason game can't come soon enough.... GO COLTS!!!

    It's just you...

ps- your profile pic is disturbing to me for some reason

  4. Moss should just start showing up to the Colts' practices and preseason games and watch with the rest of the fans. It'd create a huge media buzz and he'd get more familiar with what they are doing offensively. Plus the coaches would keep seeing him sitting over there watching while several of our WRs are sitting out injured and it'd only be a matter of time before we went ahead and signed him. That'd be awesome! Not signing him, that'd be cool and everything, but it'd be awesome for him to keep showing up at practice and games and putting pressure on us to sign him. It'll obviously never happen, but would be awesome to see...

  5. I've got this sick feeling in my gut that other teams are gonna have WR injuries soon, sign TO, Moss, and Housh, and then Gonzalez, Collie, and White will all get put on season-ending IR, and we won't be able to sign anybody worth a crap, and we'll be doomed to a painful season of watching the Colts offense not be able to move the ball at all. Wayne and Clark will get double-teamed regularly... ...really hope this doesn't happen...

  6. Ok Colts fans. Let's take a step back and look at the offense.

Where we stand as of now:

    1. Our QB. Manning has missed and will most likely miss all of preseason. He should be back for the regular season opener. Our backups: Painter/Orlovsky both are lacking in NFL skill and are shaky at best. Painter has brilliant moments backed up by absolute stupidity. No offense, but its true. Orlovsky is well, best remembered from his lackluster days and him saftying his own team by running out of the endzone. In other words, we need a healthy Manning.

    2. Our RB's. Addai has been shown to be more injury prone as of late. He seems to get bottled up too quickly and lacks the strength to help push the pile. Its unfortunate because he is the colts number on pass rush protector for Manning. Brown: has good moments, but is not the pass rush protector Manning needs to feel comfortable. This is his year to shine or he will be sent packing. Carter: rookie, but has serious speed. Time will tell. Spann: rookie, but i really like what im seeing from him. Good judgement, speed, waits for lanes to open up, strong, also can pass block. Im waiting to see how he is as a RB receiver.

    3. TE's. Clark: what can I say. Its Clark. He's a legend as far as I'm concerned. Mannings number 1 go to guy. Soft hands, quick, picks up blocks, physical, great routes! Just hope his wrist is healed. Tamme: Man, what a back up. Regardless of what anyone says, he came in for Clark and shined for Manning! Best TE backup in the NFL i feel.

    4. WR's. Wayne: after Harrison moved on, he took over as the number 1 receiver. Speed, physical, tough as nails, reliable! Down side, he is getting older. Collie: outstanding number 2, shows all the makings of a future number 1 receiver. Speed, smart, great routes, soft hands. Down side, concussions/ injuries. Gonzo: humm. Hard to evaluate due to him seeming being made of glass. He did show a ton of potential, but time will tell. Garcon: I will admit it, I really like this guys fire! He plays with passion. Strong, but has moments where he seems to be lost and ends up loosing his focus and drops alot of passes. White: came in last year and really stepped up well. Average WR. On PUP.. hope he is ok, he is a great backup. Smith: not sure.

    5. OL. Saturday: Legend center. Hes the bread to Mannings butter. Diem: urg. Average at best. McClendon: showing some good signs. Needs more time. Rookies: Castonzo/Ijalana: showing goos signs of becoming starters. Being schooled by two of the NFLs best Dwabert Frathis will only help.

    6. Problem areas of concern. First and foremost i am worried about the health of our receiving corps. The colts have the best pass QB ever and he needs to be surrounded by quality WR. As of today we are down 3 starting WR's. Not good. Hopefully they recover quickly. In the mean time, who would you like to see the colts bring in for WR help. And make them logical picks.

Second, a quality backup QB. Could Manning go down. You bet, then what's the options? Painter? Orlovsky? They are not IMO good enough backups to pick up any slack. I personally really liked Brandstater as a backup. Why we let him go, i will never understand. IMO he is better than Painter.

    Discuss..

Well, if TO is healthy I'd want us to get him ahead of anyone else. If not, then Moss or Housh in that order. As far as the backup, I'm curious what it would take to get Matt Flynn from Green Bay. He may not be attainable, but if they'd be willing to deal him for future draft pick(s), I think that'd be a great option. He could be Mannings eventual replacement after many seasons of learning from him, plus he's solid enough right now to step in and keep us competitive if Manning was unable to play. Other than him, maybe Mallet from New England, but I wouldn't want to give New England any of our draft picks. I don't know of any free agent QBs that would put us in that much better of a position than we are in right now, sad as it is.

  7. DeVan may or may not end up earning a starting spot this season, but I hope he doesn't as a result of others stepping up their play and being better than him. I hope McClendon steps it up and becomes a good starting OG. I keep hearing how much of a beast he is strengthwise, but I get the feeling he must not be too bright since he hasn't already seized a starting role amidst the pack of no name olinemen he's competing against. I really like what we did this past draft with getting Castanzo and Ijalana, and I feel they will be staples of the Colts oline for the next 10 years or more, and likely be pro bowl caliber players. I'd really like to see us do the same in the 2012 draft and get two more top tier talent olinemen, preferably a guard and a center. On top of that, maybe even pick up a young free agent guard with pro bowl caliber talent. More than any other position, I'd really like to see us put together a top notch oline, thusly making things easier for Manning in the twilight of his career and giving the team a good solid base to build around once he is gone. I believe the key to us getting another Lombardi trophy or two before Manning retires is our oline, and our ability to stay competitive in the years following Manning's departure also hinges on it. At least we have already made steps in that direction, and I hope we continue to do so.

I think what happens with our WR situation is key to whether or not we'll be able to devote our top 2 picks to the oline again next draft. If Gonzalez and Collie have good seasons and stay healthy, and Garcon shows more consistency, then we just resign our own WRs(including Wayne) and we're good. But if injuries are a problem again and Garcon continues to be inconsistent, we've got a big problem and we'll almost certainly have to spend a top pick or two on WR. All other positions on the team seem to be realatively solid and shouldn't need to have a first or second round pick spent on them. The only other questionable position is CB, but we should be able to address that via free agency or via trade without wasting a high pick on it. Plus young CBs always go through growing pains and make mistakes early in their career, and at this point we need to win now and can't afford those mistakes.

How's that for going way off topic?

  8. Funny story here. I went to camp last year and took a football hoping to snag some autographs. I got Mathis' and Johnson's autographs, and was trying to get Clark's as well. As I stood at the fence with Clark on my right, I was looking at him and paying attention to him. From my left, unbeknownst to me, came Pollak. Dallas was near and I had my ball outstretched, when I noticed Pollak making a grab for it. I immediately pulled it back. I didn't want him on my ball when I had good players already on there.

He didn't look too thrilled, but I didn't care... mike freaking pollak wasn't going on my ball with Mathis and Johnson and potentially Clark. I didn't end up getting Clark's autograph, and maybe that was karma for letting pollak know he wasn't welcome on my ball.

    But you know what?

That's fine with me. I'll gladly sacrifice a Clark autograph (I have an autographed card of his, anyhow) to keep mike pollak from putting his John Hancock next to Robert Mathis'.

There were also a few people walking by who chimed in with a "You suck, pollak!"

Awww, poor Pollack. You know that had to hurt his feelings at least a little bit.

  9. He's recovering from a quad injury he suffered last season, but it's not supposed to be a serious lingering injury. He played through it last year. He should be ready to play this season. I don't know much about him other than he has started for the last 5 years without missing a start and he made the pro bowl a couple of years ago. And he was due to make $2.something million this year... We've got a bit of cap room left, and considering the loss of CJ and the inexperience of our o-line, he might be a smart pick up for depth or potentially even as a starter.

  10. That depth chart is gonna change numerous times before the season starts, and possibly during the season as well. Castanzo, Ijalana, and Saturday will definitely be starters when it's all said and done, IMO. I'd like to see McClendon step up and earn a permanent starting spot. I'm projecting the opening day starting O-line to be: LT-Castanzo, LG-McClendon, C-Saturday, RG-Ijalana, RT-Diem

  11. Hey BlueShoe, nice to meet you. I myself have spent more than my fair share of time (when I was much younger) lamenting over various situations within the Colts franchise that I perceived as 'tragedies'. But I eventually got over it. Wanna know why? *mod delete* This is a family-friendly site. Then all this Marshall Faulk stuff just won't matter to you nearly so much.

    GO COLTS!

Let's keep this clean. Posts like this can draw a ban. The site is, and will remain, family-friendly. Tubaguy

  12. No thx. I would love to see us target some DBs though. Lacey is getting burned already in camp *sigh*

Indy Nick, you seem pretty cool for the most part, and you make some good posts too. But everyday I read at least one post from you about how much Lacey sucks and how desperately we need to get a DB to play ahead of him. I understand your concern, and I myself wouldn't be opposed to us signing another starting CB to play ahead of him. Anything that strengthens the team, I'm in favor of. But Lacey isn't going to be as much of a liability this year as you seem to be anticipating. I know I've already said this in response to your posts numerous times, but Lacey is gonna make some big plays for us this year. I got a really strong hunch about it. Sure, he might get beat here and there from time to time, but most CBs do, unless you're talking about Revis or Deon Sanders. I'm confident he's going to show alot of improvement, and I'm calling it that he's gonna lead our team in INTs this year.

  13. Well, I see a ton of potential and possibly a lot of success for all of our draft picks this year. I think, other than 98', this is my favorite Colts' draft class in recent memory. Castanzo and Ijalana should and I think will be cornerstones of the franchise for the next 10-12 years. Nevis could end up being a monster for us, I've heard comparisons to Warren Sapp (hopefully that doesn't mean in the domestic violence area :FBwink: ). Rucker is a tall, physical corner that's good in press coverage, which we've been lacking like forever now, so he has a lot of potential for success. And Delone Carter, you just never know what he could amount to. Running backs are very hard to predict, but the kid is a powerful, hard nosed runner and we've been lacking that for a long time now too. He's got a shot to make a big impact.

Out of all of those guys, I think, in the longrun, Ijalana will prove to be the most 'successful'. Both he and Castanzo are gonna be huge assets to our team, but Ijalana is the better run blocker, described as having a mean streak. I think the running game is gonna be a huge part of our teams' future success, even moreso than passing in a few years. Thusly Ijalana will be the biggest key to our success out of the bunch, which I suppose would make him the 'most successful'. On a side note, I really hope we continue to add some top notch talent to our o-line in the next couple of drafts, and turn our o-line into one of the best in the league for many years to come.

  14. First off, I loved watching Sanders fly all over the field and make plays! He was awesome to watch! But I do have to say, I've always been curious if he was taking performance enhancing drugs. The dude was a freak of nature from an atheletic standpoint, and that often raises an eyebrow or two. I'm not an expert by any means, but I'm under the impression that people who take PEDs are more prone to injuries under certain circumstances, such as impact sports. Their muscles can create vastly more force than the bones, ligaments, tendons, etc. are designed to handle, subsequently resulting in injury. I hope that's not the case with Sanders, but I have always wondered. The NFL just made PED testing part of it's policy and I think every player is supposed to be tested before the season starts, so we'll see what happens there. I've got a hunch that about a third of the league is gonna get busted. If Sanders gets busted, then we'll have a better idea of why he was always injured.

As far as the effect of the weak linebacking core on our safeties health, I see your point. Our safeties have been carrying a large portion of the tackling load over the last several years. It would be awesome to draft a Ray Lewis type linebacker in the upcoming years of the draft and see a change in that trend.

  15. FYI, there are just as many reports that Randy Moss was/is in Philadelphia tonight eating at some restaurant there and talking with Eagles management, as opposed to him being in Indy. Does anybody else smell a publicity stunt to spark fans' interest in signing him and perhaps subsequently get him another 'real' meeting with one of these contending teams' management? I'm guessing those rumors were purposely started within the Moss camp.

  16. I'm not totally opposed to this if he's 2nd round rookie cheap. I mean, he could spell Bullitt on certain downs, give us an extra body in the box if we expect the run, and then play Special Teams. On Kick and/or Punt coverage, stick that fast, physical body in there to tackle the guy with the ball. I think he could excel there.

I totally agree! And while he's playing those roles, our coaching staff can give him their best shot and see if they can't make a suitable starting SS out of him while they're at it. If that doesn't end up happening, then oh well. Just the special teams help alone makes him worth it! That's assuming that the price will be right...

  17. Because this is a football forum and we talk about football a lot? If someone wants to ask about an avatar image or something, or make a joke, that's not a crime, nor against the spirit or letter of the rules of this forum. Just so long as everyone get's back to the topic, where is the problem?

That's what I'm talking about Zebra3! Thank you! You're officially my favorite mod :FBwink:

  18. With a lockout shortened season, our big advantage is our stability. Returning Coach, Returning QB, Returning vets, That's all a big deal.

BESIDES ALL THAT, We've been to the Super Bowl with Coach, he was great last season with an super-bowl-cursed-injury-wrecked-team, and he's only going to be more relaxed this season. (If that's possible)

And EVEN IF I DIDN'T LIKE CALDWELL, It's two weeks to the pre-season, do you seriously think that's enough time to bring in a new coach??

That, dear sir, is why that was [by far] the worst post I've ever seen. Period.

Definitely a bad idea for this year! If a really special coach expressed an interest in the job next year, then maybe. If Jon Gruden wanted to coach the Colts next year, I'd be all for it!

  19. The Colts have cap room this year but perhaps they are thinking about the cap room for next year when they will probably resign Wayne and Mathis??? I'm not going to pretend I understand the cap but it seems likely , plus the Colts aren't interested in getting a good FA for 1 yr.

Why wouldn't they be? They could spend all of that $15 mil this year on one year contracts for player to help THIS year, then not resign them next year so as to have room to resign Wayne and Mathis. How could they not be interested in bringing in players to help us win THIS year? Especially with the SB in Indianapolis this year...
