  1. Hoping that Gore has a great season this year. It seems he defies the odds every year and plays well despite getting up there in age for a back. I showed clear bias in wanting us to draft Mixon this year to pair with Gore but we did not. I'm now holding out hope that come 3 years from now, we draft another player that I have personal ties to in Alabama's Najee Harris to be the guy. Gore hold out for 3 more years!

He has everything you look for in a RB, but I can't see how people over look his "lack of vision". If he doesn't have a clear lane, he's lost. He ran great against sub-par defenses, but his games against Alabama, he was completely dead in the water. It's only going to get tougher in the NFL. To me he's following right in the path of Trent Richardson.

    When did these games happen?

For what it's worth,  for those who are curious and want to see video of, I'd respectfully recommend being careful of what games you are watching.

Meaning,  in his 2015 video, I thought he looked a bit tentative,  a bit hesitant,  that he lacked a certain suddenness.      I chalked most of that up to being away from the game during his redshirt year, where I believe he didn't practice at all.     So, I thought he was a bit rusty and it showed.

Then, late in 2016,  I started watching his 2016 highlights and it was almost like he was a different guy.   Much more decisive,  much more acceleration,  better vision....   better everything frankly.    His play just popped off the screen.     I was completely impressed.

Just some food for thought,  something to watch for as you look at Mixon highlights.

Superman did a nice job of breaking him down.

100% this. The year sitting out caused definite rust when he came back.

I was thinking, later on we are all going to sit down with our chips, wings, pizza, beer, etc. and watch this football with an extra edge. Now our team is not even in this game so you wonder where the edge comes from? I'm sure 98% of us on the board are going to be hardcore cheering for the Falcons. Not necessarily because we like the Falcons, but because we hate the team on the other sideline! While I sit here just thinking about how my hatred started, I've thought about so many good/bad times I've had watching this team. So many times I've been killed inside from losses and how many times I couldn't contain myself with joy when they lost.

My hatred started Nov 30th 2003. We had 4 chances from the one and couldn't punch it in... It only got worse from there!

    Same from me.

  5. Obviously 2006 team is the most accomplished team in Indianapolis history, but idk if I'd say they were the best. My vote goes to 2005 I think. Perhaps worst game of season against Pittsburgh in the playoffs, same as the 18-1 New England team. That team beats that Giants team more often than not. Best team doesn't always win, it's about matchups always.

this was a great writeup from 21isSuperman. Great job.

Oh yeah. Nothing could get me to draft him based on his talent AND his issue. What I was saying is his talent would have to be unique....like a clear cut above the rest of this draft rbs or on par with an elite back. I don't see that. He isn't the best back in this draft and honestly there are several others I'd rather have. On talent alone he is a late day 2 back...so if you say get him in the 3rd....sure. Factor in the off field...heck no he is undeaftable in my mind. Give me one of those other backs without the issues. I don't think he is far and away superior. There are some things about running in the NFL that don't just translate from college to pros. He is a heck of an athlete but I'm not sure I see that running style being effective over the long season. If anything I think he may make a better wr then back. There is no doubt his time at OU was very successful but that can be said for many backs there. I won't argue with you about his athleticism but i am not seeing special from this kid...and I can't separate his issues. That's as much of who he is as his 40 time to me.

Only time will tell. I disagree about your evaluation, but that's ok. No two scouts are gonna ever see the exact same things.

You don't have to worry I won't root for him. I believe in second chances but they have to be earned. Nothing he's said or done has earned him a second chance imo.

I'm not going to completely write him off. He could be very active in charity and community work and become a role model in the future. If that happens I'll reconsider my opinion of him.

There are plenty of RBs who can make plays as receivers and runners in this draft. I like Gallman. Mixon isn't the only good RB in the '17 Draft.

He already has done lots of community service as well as multiple things he's done for young fans.

Heres one story I can find without looking hard from not too long ago:

Don't want or need a player like Mixon on our team. He'd be a distraction and a PR nightmare day one. I couldn't root for the Colts if we drafted Mixon and I doubt I'm the only one who feels this way.

We're gonna have to live with the occasional opinion like this if he gets drafted by us.

The thing for me is is I do not want to see you guys rooting for the guy, should we draft him, once he blows up and is going for 1000 yards+. You don't want or need a player like Joe, I'm assuming this is speaking on his "character issues" because as previously stated we DO need a player that makes plays in both the receiving and running game like Joe does.

The opinion given on Joe in this post is one that can't change. If you're not willing to give him a second chance right now, than like I said, don't root for him when he's making pro bowls as a Colt should we draft him.

It's all good. There just isn't a single back I value at as a back worth our pick at #15. I don't see anyone worth that. On talent I see him as a border line late 2nd. I have two guys as late first rd picks then a couple middle 2nd rd picks and a bunch of guys as 3rd rd guys. What I'm not going to do is take a guy that will be a PR nightmare and alienate a huge portion of my fan base because he is a woman beater. I don't care if it was once and he was 18. I know plenty of 18 year olds that don't hit women...unfortunately this kid isnt like them. I know tons that are stupid enough to light up a blount...but none that think it's ok to punch a girl. On the Richter scale of poor taste poor judgement and just poor character this kid is off the chart. This isn't just a whoops I screwed up once. This is on a whole different level ignorance. There is something deep down wrong with someone that would hit s woman. I just don't value rbs that highly and I'm certainly not taking on that has these red flags when there is plenty of talented rbs in this draft. Point being this kid isn't a can't miss prospect. To take on his baggage I need someone of the ilk I mentioned. There isn't a back in this draft I feel like that about.

You feel this way, and clearly you feel strongly about it.

I'm not, nor have I ever justified what he did that night. But it sounds to me like you don't want him on the roster much more because of a mistake he made, rather than his talent level not being up to the standard worthy of drafting him (which is what it seemed more to be from your prior posts). If you feel this way, you would've saved us both some time by stating it up front. I've ran into quite a few who feel that way, but not many who feel he is basically average and "doesn't stand out" like you said earlier.

Its not worth speaking on for me if that's how you feel, there's no amount of tape I can point you to to influence your opinion on that. I've stated I believe he is sorry and has payed for what he did and deserves a second chance, but I don't really want to debate whether or not a man deserves a second chance because I don't ultimately hold the authority to give them or judge a mans heart, only God does.

  10. 8 hours ago, dgambill said:

There are plenty of evaluators that differ from your opinion.

I don't see where. Mixon is pretty much a consensus first/second round TALENT from everyone I've heard give him a grade. Joe does finish runs. I will however agree with you that he occasionally keeps his pad level too high.

    8 hours ago, dgambill said:

Also Perine was hurt last year...but I'm not so sure he isn't a better prospect than Mixon.

Oklahoma was my favorite college team even before Joe because my family is from Oklahoma, I watched every game this season so I know Perine was injured, but toward the end of the season he was healthy and Mixon had just flat out won the starting role. Perine lacks the speed, and has much more injury history than Joe. He also lacks what Joe brings in the receiving game.

    8 hours ago, dgambill said:

I don't see AP...I don't see Emmit Smith or Eric Dickerson or Barry Sanders. He doesn't jump off the screen at me.

All things considered Mixon wouldn't even be on my draft board...but just on the field only..sure he's got talent but there are backs that I watch and think are just as good with none of the baggage.

If AP, Emmitt, Dickerson and Barry are who you want from a player you are just drafting, you will be disappointed.

Thats fine, you can feel that way about him not being on your board, that's your opinion. But I just don't see how when we are only talking about talent ON THE FIELD, who these backs are that are just as good in this draft that you are watching. There may be 3 or 4 of equal/potentially higher talent from what I see. And none of them will be potentially available in the 3rd. Idk how many you are referring to or who they are in your opinion.

  11. 1 hour ago, dgambill said:

not sure what you felt I exaggerated but I think it's a fair analysts of how a leader in an organization looks at things.

That's fine. I think on the field he is a nice back but nothing stands out as this kid being a super star. He certainly isn't the best back in this draft that's clear and one might argue not even the best back on his team in college. I know he's your boy and I respect your fandom but nothing about him screams that he is lock to hit it big time in the league.

Nobody that has watched significant film that I have heard would suggest Perine is a better back than Mixon at the next level. Stoops didn't even believe that anymore when towards the end of the season Joe won the starting role.

I disagree that he doesn't do anything that stands out. He has exceptional vision, and is the best receiving back in this draft bar none. He has above average speed. I don't see where the "doesn't do anything that stands out" idea came from.

  12. 7 hours ago, dgambill said:

I just don't see it. How many of you finally get the job of your dream...then go out the first day (effectively first big decision) and rush out on a limb. There are many other backs that will be just as good in the draft or in FA to not have to put this on your plate. Would you rather answer questions about guys on the field performances the day after the draft standing there with their jerseys or answer how in your first draft you basically went against 20 yrs of Colts culture and history to sign the biggest media nightmare kid in the draft. I don't think Ballard wants that presser. Maybe after a few years and some equity in the organization maybe but he will already be under a microscope inside the organization and outside. How will this guy lead...what kinda example will he set...all his scouts personnel people everyone will be watching to see how he will lead. I don't think taking Mixon will be the impression or message he will want to send. If Mixon made it unfrafted all bets are probably off but sorry I'd say it's a long shot. Weed is one thing...a mistake most can live with. You don't have women's groups protesting your organization and you don't have to have special interviews just to address it. Generally it goes away if the players stays clean too. This won't ever go away. Ever. It will get brought up weekly and something like a SB....forget it non-stop. Just not something I think a first time GM wants on his plate.

I disagree wholeheartedly with the bolded.

Mewhort - Building Block. He's a stud, top 15ish guard in the league IMO. Just need another stud at RG

Moncrief - Building Block. He's had some injury issues, but assuming he's healthy I'm expecting a 1,000 plus, 8-12 TD year from Crief next season. He's shown he's got the potential to be a beast.

Dorsett - Incomplete. Has the talent, but has yet to do anything to show me he'll ever realize his potential.

Anderson - Building Block - Was looking like a boss in his rookie year, then got injured. Next year with almost 2 years removed from the injury he may come in and ball out, but he didn't look the same this season. Maybe that's from the injury. That would be my guess as I think he has the potential to be a very good DT.

Geathers - Building Block. I'm not sure. I think he could be a solid SS with better players around him, maybe even a pretty good SS. He could be our enforcer type. Coming down, laying ball carriers out, making big first down saving tackles, I think he has potential as a blitzer, etc...BUT we have to have a true coverage safety next to him. Right now he's not any good in coverage, maybe he can improve on it a little yeah, but lets see how he looks next season, but I think he could possibly be a pretty solid starting SS for us.

Parry - JAG. He's not good enough to be starting on a good, super bowl caliber defense. He's a rotational DT and nothing more.

Good - JAG - Backup OL IMO.

Green - Incomplete. The kid was a joke this season and it makes me sick we took him......BUT he does have a TON of raw talent. He could be a top 5 safety in the NFL, or out of the league here in a couple years.

    Agree with all points.

He is from Cali huh?? I thought so good looks man I've been wondering. He's my favorite prospect this year my boy if we hypothetical got him, ima be rocking that #25 in that blue oooooo baby

Yessir. Played at Freedom High School in Oakley, California. About 50 miles East of San Francisco. I went to school at Antioch (watch out for our beast coming soon as well Najee Harris who is about to be a freshman at Alabama) right down the street from him and know him and his family. Good guy despite what people are saying about him. He was a senior the year after me and played against him in basketball as well. Loyal is how I'd describe him.

You know we do it big in California man!!!

2shay on the interviews being done at combine didn't think that through haha:p. But I really do think he's ganna get drafted, hate me if you will, I really hope were the ones who draft him

Nobody is gonna hate you man. Anyone who hates you for wanting to give someone a second chance has their priorities all wrong.

I've made it clear I want us to draft my guy as well. He's gonna represent NorCal and the Bay Area strong wherever he goes!

  16. I don't see how Atlanta doesn't run the ball.

You just got the ball back after unsuccessful onside kick and are in New England territory at the 41, up NINETEEEEEEEN points late 3rd

First down: 9 yard gain, pass.

    Second down: run, holding

2nd and 11 at the 42 RUN THE BALL. You've ran relatively well all game. Ryan throws incomplete pass.

3rd and 11 Ryan takes a sack and out of field goal range.

Fast forward to next drive, 8:31 left 3rd and 1 at your own 36. Up SIXTEEEEEEEEEEN. You just ran for 8 yards. RUN THE BALL. Ryan strip sacked and recovered by New England.

Fast forward to next drive, 4:40 left at New England 22 yard line up 8 points. Julio Jones has just put the entire city of Atlanta on his back for the culture. RUN THE BALL. They run and lose one yard on first down.

Second down, 3:56 left at the New England 23. RUN THE BALL. We are in the process of depleting the clock and kicking a field goal to gain a two score lead. Atlanta passes and Ryan takes a terrible sack at the 35 yard line. You cannot take this sack, but that is a story for a different day. 3rd down run the ball, take another of New England's timeouts and kick the field goal, you aren't picking up 23 yards for the first down. Atlanta again passes. This time a holding penalty is thrown knocking you out of field goal range. Now it's third and forever and an incomplete pass is thrown. Atlanta punts and Tom goes on his money drive to end regulation. You do not see the ball again on offense with a legitimate chance of getting points.

The second half play calling was atrocious in this game for Atlanta.

  17. Antonio Brown is easier to scheme out of a game imo. You can give a corner safety help over top all game and take away most of the problems he brings. Julio is tougher to do that against because of his larger frame. I think it's even for me, it depends on what you want though. Brown is a blazer that is good in the screen game as well, whereas Julio is a great red zone target. Odell rounds out the top 3 but it's 1A, 1B, 1C from me.

Bruce, Warner, and Morten Andersen deserve the hall.

T.O. does not. At least compared to Isaac Bruce, Bruce has a ring and only had Warner for 3 years, yet consistently put up big numbers most of his career and had the most clutch catch in the 1999 Super Bowl. T.O. put up great stats in the regular season like Randy Moss, but he's not remembered for being clutch on the biggest stage with the brightest lights. He'll always be remembered for touchdown celebrations and that big baby fit he threw at McNabb after losing the Super Bowl.

Warner and Bruce should've got in last year. If they're snubbed this year, then we know the league is officially trying to erase the legacy of the GSOT while the worthless Rams are in L.A.

Morten Andersen owned several records as a kicker throughout his career. I have no idea why he's not in the Hall of Fame. He was 'the man' when it came to kicking long 50+ yard field goals, and had a storied long career spanning several teams. Saints fans and Falcons fans will always remember and appreciate him.

Disagree. Owens had 9 receptions for 122 yards in the Super Bowl. How much brighter do the lights get? Game winning TD catch while getting blasted to beat the Packers in the Wild Card game in 1998. I could go on but won't.
