  1. How about Pat Sims from Oakland? He's a veteran, he played well last year and he won't cost a ton. Rotate him with Chapman, bring in Jones to rotate with Redding and, maybe Moala, and hope that Hughes makes enough progress to rotate in with Jean-Francois. A draft option I'd be happy with is DaQuan Jones from Penn State. He could play nose tackle or tackle.

  2. 4 years, 39 million. That takes care of that. Vontae will get his buck, seems like he's becoming more and more vital to us

His signing bonus is only $12.5 million but I don't know if he has other money that is considered guaranteed, which means he might not end being paid $39 million.. Grimes contract is for four years at $32 million but $16 is guaranteed. What does that mean for what it will take the Colts to sign Davis? A lot of these contracts are structured in a way that teams will never pay out the full amount because they either release the player towards the end of the contract or they renegotiate.  I think it's about how much money is guaranteed in the first two to three years.

  3. It is an average of 90 percent over a five year span. Or three. Don't remember which. You can be severely under one year and the cap rolls over, but you get penalized if you don't get to that 90 percent average.

A three or five-year span makes sense and would explain the strategy of spending more judiciously this year.

    Thanks.

  4. There have been couple of articles about the Colts spending wisely this year on free agents with an eye toward resigning key players 2015 and 2016 despite having over $35 million in cap room. My question is, does the CBA set a minimum amount of money (a percent) of the overall cap amount that teams must spend on salaries to insure that teams are being competitive? I thought I remember it being around 85 to 90 percent.

  5. Weird.  I doubt anything has happened, probably just a technical glitch when they added Chudzinski.  Speaking of Chud, is it just me, or does that picture make him look like a psycho, undead?  It's pretty creepy.

It looks like that's what happened. I'm glad he's with the team, he has a nice combination of both college and NFL experience.

  6. Does anyone know if Charlie Williams has left the team? I tried checking his coaching bio to see if his tenure at North Carolina as WR coach overlapped with Hakeem Nicks (it did for two years) and Williams picture and bio are no longer on the Colts.com site under "Team" and "Coaches."  By the way, Chudzinski is listed now but he doesn't have a job title under his name.

  7. I loved watching that team - but has anyone mentioned Lydell Mitchell? He rushed for over a thousand yards at least a couple of seasons (when they played on 14 games and teams threw less so defenses were geared to stop the run more than the pass), and he usually was one of the top receivers in the league when it came to running backs. He played with Franco Harris at Penn State and Harris got more attention in the pros because he played for the Steelers but Mitchell was one of the best backs of the early to mid 70s.

  8. Yet another player taken that I have no clue who it is.

So, I have no comment for this. Just gonna continue to sit back & watch it all pan out

I wouldn't worry too much if some of you don't know who he is because, as someone mentioned in passing in an earlier post, the Colts know who he is. In fact, the Colts O-line coach, Joe Gilbert, was Thornton's O-line coach his sophomore and junior seasons so I'm fairly confident that the Colts are very confident that they got a player they wanted.

  9. Gil Brandt has been evaluating college talent for many years and has a fairly impressive track record. Here's his assessment of Werner's pro day work out:    Bjoern Werner DE (6-3 ¾, 261 pounds) — He kept everything he did at the combine. He looked outstanding in the positional drills. Werner is a very, very good athlete.  I would imagine that someone who grew up playing soccer, probably is a pretty good athlete in terms of coordination, footwork and quickness.

  10. Collie ran a 4.56 at the combine and a 4.53 at his pro day workout. Not blazing speed but better than Allen, who most expected to run around or under a 4.6 before his injury.

He has a knee injury. If a guy falls past where he should don't let him go because of 40 time.

The guy is a faster Collie

  11. I trust that Grigson and Pagano did their due diligence before signing him. Maybe they overpaid a bit but ESPN's evaluation of Walden is fairly good.

He has good size and athleticism and excellent functional strength to set the edge as a run defender. He understands angles and pad level to leverage blockers and has developed active hands. Walden has range in pursuit inside-out to the ball. He appears to have developed some effective counters as an edge pass-rusher and became more active in coverage in 2012. Walden was able to secure 24 starts the past two seasons. He has made the most of his opportunities and possibly solidified his status in 2013.
  12. If it's a big-name receiver, and it's not Cruz or Fitzgerald, it could be Colston but I wouldn't discount Darrius Heyward-Bey, who has been mentioned a couple of times. He was released on March 12, five days ago, he's big, fast and is only 26 or 27. He has the potential, with a great quarterback, to be a solid number 1 WR.

Yeah, so i think i have this figured out... check me for inaccuracies....

    1. No free agent signing takes 5 days to sort out... this MUST be a trade.

    2. "We need a turnover"
this has got to be a a huge signing.

    3. "pour a strong drink... do ur voodoo"
bourbon street has the strongest drinks... voodoo is a pretty obvious call to New Orleans

    4. "he has the ringer"
whomever it is has a superbowl ring

    5. "lotta ins and outs"
its not a fast guy who runs fly routes all day.... this is an over the middle, slants type guy. (perfect for Pep's WCO)

    6. "looking for a walter... this is a league game, smokey"
Big Labowski reference.... character in the movie was Walter Sobchak played by John Goodman... A New Orleans Native

    7. Not sure about the whites and undies

If i had to guess... Marques Colston...

only wrench is that he just signed a new deal in March 2012 and gave him a butt-load of money guaranteed. Then again, it could involve 3 teams to absorb the cap hits.

Just a guess guys... but @JimIrsay is a crafty one. (or maybe he was just tweeting while drinking...)

  13. I don't think the final decision from the Arizona side would be Arians. He's the HC not the GM. I don't know who the GM is but the Cardinal organization has a long history of being tight with it's money. Moving Fitzgerald, if that's what this is all about, could be about the almight dollar.

And Bruce Arains would get shanked.

  14. I agree that we'll be running a lot two tightend sets but TY may not have the size (and durablity) to be a regular number two WR working on the outside. Remember, Reggie only has two more years so this could be about finding his replacement for 2015 while working as the number two in the meantime.

    agreed

  15. It probably would take our first this year and our first next year but we could add someone like Brazile, since Arians is familiar with him and loves guys with speed to stretch the field. I would expect additional draft picks if Fitzgerald were younger but he'll be 30 in late August.

What would we have to give up for Fitzgerald? 2 1sts, and 2 2nds, and 2 3rds?

  16. We have five picks - 1, 3, 4, 6 & 7. I'm pretty sure that the compensatory picks will be announced shortly after the owners meeting and I expect we pick up one or two (Grigson said the same thing a month or so ago).

I really hope we dont give up much in the way of draft picks. We only have 4 as it is! Plus in my opinion we need CB and OG help more than WR help right now. Dont overpay and plz dont let us down Irsay!

  17. Maybe the time zone difference came into play? I'd guess that once it got to be midnight out West, they stopped talking and will resume this morning. It's a two-hour time difference (with the East coast), so hopefully the negotiations will recommence in the next hour or two - maybe after breakfast?

  18. I hope that once this is revealed / resolved, for better or for worse, depending on if the deal goes down, who the player is and what the price is to get said player, that we find out how did this all start? Did Pagano say to Grigs, "if we can get this guy, this will put us over the top?" or did Grigs ask Pagano "how would you like to have "fill in the name" to line up opposite Reggie?" or did this all start with "the Dude," Mr. Irsay? Does anyone know if Grigson is in Arizona with Irsay? It is an "owners" meeting but I don't know if GMs come along for situations like this one.
