Pretty sure he can't.  He's not eligible until the 2021 draft.  Next year is Herbert, Tua, and Fromm as the frontrunners for first round QBs.

Could you imagine if we went from Peyton to Luck to Lawrence though, with only 2-3 years of QB purgatory between them all? That would be insane.

you're correct, he would have to be out of high school for 3 years which would make the 2021 draft the year he could enter. So in that case, Colts need to stick with Brisset untel 2021 haha..... To be able to get Lawrence would make the Colts a one lucky franchise lol. and being drafted by a team who is a good QB away from being a Championship caliber team. I'm willing to sit around watching them play 9-7 ball for a season and then 4-12 ball the next year to draft him haha......

As far as 2020 draft crop of QB's goes, I like all three, but I think Tua and Herbertt will go 1 and 2 in the draft where I think Miami and Tampa will draft the two. and I think the race for Fromme will come down to who is higher up on the draft board between Oakland and Indy. I also wouldn't mind seeing the colts give up one of their 2nds or a 3rd rounder for Carr. I think with the colts O-line and the weapons that are on the offense Carr would thrive in Indy. But if they could give up just a 4th or 5th for him that would be fantastic lol

Play this season out, roll the cap into other areas, and take a stud like Tua, Herbert, or Fromm next year in the 1st. Then grab one of many stud WRs with our 2nd from the Skins, like Tee Higgins, Ceedee Lamb, or Henry Ruggs. We're sitting good at that point, and really just chalk up this season. We still have the amazing core of guys, the team that Ballard has built. It isn't just the Luck Show like it was in 17. We add Tua and Lamb with TY, Ebron, Parris, and Mack and we're sitting in a great position.

I don't know man, I am hoping Trevor Lawrence says he will enter the draft next year, and if not the colts hold off until the following year when he does. I think Sunshine will be the next big QB to come out of the draft.

Do you think Brissett is a franchise QB?

I honestly don't think he is. I am not saying he is a bad QB, BUT I do not think he is a franchise QB. And I hope he proves me wrong, because if not then the Colts need to start thinking about drafting a QB. In a way I wish Trevor Lawrence would say he is entering the 2020 NFL Draft and the Colts have the first pick lol. BUT then I also want Brisset to go out there throw for 4,000 yards and 40 TD's and leading the Colts to a 12-4 record and winning the division and home field through out the playoffs.

  4. I say ride the season with Brisset, give him a chance with an improved team. When he played the season two years ago, the team was still in "rebuild". BUT as OP stated, a good foundation was built in Indy in the last two years. the O-line is a lot better than it was when the last time Brisset was the starter for the season. If he doesn't pan out, cool. at least he was given a shot to prove himself. BUT if we are to draft a new franchise QB, I'd like to see the colts get Trevor Lawrence aka "Sunshine" from Clemson when ever he may enter the draft. Hoping this spring lol.

There is some talk the Colts may be interested in Seahawks DE Frank Clark, but is he really worth giving up a 1st rounder for? He was franchise tagged after the season. IF a first rounder is what it will take, the only way I say pull the trigger on this is doing a sign and trade deal. Let Ballard negotiate a contract extension before finalizing the trade. 36 sacks in 3 years is not to shabby.

So first rounder for a 25 yr old DE or no? What does everyone thing?

  6. I voted that we win 10 games. and the likely loss being @ KC..... I think we lose to LAC, KC, NOLA, Pittsburgh, @ Tennessee, AND a team everyone would expect the colts to win. Maybe Denver or one against JAX.

10-6 overall and 4-2 in the division with losses at TN and at JAX (I don't think we will be playing for anything the final game of the season and Reich rests his starters)

Thanks for that terrific post with all those statistics. Just makes me so mad they didn’t protect him better and surround him with a better team. Just goes to show how special Luck  really is.

can blame Grigson for that. He tore this team apart starting in year 2. He was made to look like a great GM his first year because guys like Luck, Fleener, Allen and Hilton fell right into his lap. after that with poor signings, bad trades etc. Ballard has performed a miracle in two years as the colts GM.

    Luck went 11-5 with 4347 yards, 23 TDs, 18 INTs as a rookie (sacked 41 times, 54.1% on 627 attempts, 6.93 yards/attempt).

    Peyton went 3-13 with 3739 yards 26 TDs, 28 INTs as a rookie (sacked 22 times, 56.7% on 575 attempts, 6.5 yards/attempt).

    Luck went 11-5 with 3822 yards, 23 TDs, 9 INTs in year two (sacked 32 times, 60.2% on 570 attempts, 6.7 yards/attempt).

    Peyton went 13-3 for 4135 yards 26 TDs, 15 INTs in year two (sacked 14 times, 62.1% on 533 attempts, 7.76 yards/attempt).

    Luck went 11-5 with 4761 yards, 40 TDs, 16 INT in year three (sacked 27 times, 61.7% on 616 attempts, 7.73 yards/attempt).

    Peyton went 10-6 4413 yards, 33 TDs, 15 INT in year three (sacked 20 times, 62.1% on 571 attempts, 7.73 yards/attempt).

Overall, Luck had 33 wins to Peyton's 26 wins ....12,930 yards to  Peyton's 12,287 .... 86 TDs to Peyton's 85... and 43 INTs to Peyton's 58 INTs.  Luck was sacked 100 times in his first 3 years, compared to Peyton only being sacked 56 times.

Luck and Peyton both were number 1 draft picks, meaning they each inherited the worst team from the NFL in the year before.  Some numbers may be skewed due to a different era (which one may argue favors Luck in a more 'passer-friendly league') or a different coaching staff (which one may argue favors Peyton's numbers with a less defensive-minded/more-offensive minded head coach in his first 3 years).  Regardless, Luck had 7 more wins, 700 more yards, 1 more TD, and 15 less INT's than Peyton in his first three years.  In year 1, Luck had 0.4 more yards/attempt, in year 2, Peyton had 1.06 more yards/attempt, and in year 3, they had the exact same yards/attempt.  Peyton had the best RB in the league in his 2nd and 3rd years, Luck has never had close to that type of running game.

In Peyton's first 7 season, he was sacked 20 times or less 4x and was never sacked for 30 or more times.  In Luck's first 5 seasons, he was sacked over 40 times 2x, over 30 times 1x, and 27 times another time.  In his 4th year, he was on pace to be sacked >34 times before he was injured.

Some of Luck's hits and sacks are on Luck for holding the ball longer than Peyton and being a more aggressive runner.  However, as far as numbers are concerned Luck had significantly more wins than Peyton in his first 3 years, and was slightly better in yards and TDs.  He was also significantly better in reducing interceptions.  Peyton had a slight edge on completion percentage.  Their yards per attempt were tied in year 3 and split in the other years.

The main thing that sticks out looking at the stats outside the above numbers is the amount of sacks they each took.  Luck in his first 5 years had a sack % numbers of 6.1, 5.3, 4.2, 4.9, 7.0.  Peyton's numbers looked like 3.7, 2.6, 3.4, 5.0, 3.7.  In fact, in Peyton's 17 years in the league, he only had a sack % of 5 or greater 1 time and he had one other season where his sack % was 4.6.

Again, some of Luck's hits could have been on Luck.  However, there has to be something to be said for what the Colts did with Peyton vs. what they did with Luck.  Peyton, they knew was going to be their franchise player, they made darned sure he was protected at all times.  Luck, they knew was going to be their franchise player, and they let him get the living heck beat out of him every year until last year when Ballard finally made significant steps to improving our O-Line.

It's hard to say that Luck would already have a SB with Ballard, since we're in the same conference as the Pats.... but I think it's hard to argue that Luck wouldn't have been better protected and less injured if Ballard was the GM from day 1.

spot on...…. But it's true, I think if Ballard was the GM the year luck was drafted. the colts would prob have a super bowl in the Luck era. BUT also could be said, would we have TY Hilton or would he have drafted defense in the second round? would he have traded for Vontae Davis? we all know he would not have wasted a first rounder on the AAFL leading rusher in TD's Trent Richardson haha…..but it's all hypothetical. in the end though, can't go wrong with facts that you provided. well said!

He has a dark history, and the recent news makes it that much worse. I HIGHLY doubt many teams would even give them a 7th rounder no matter how good he is. Maybe the Raiders would, desperate teams do desperate things, but they wouldn't trade him in the division anyway..

or the cowboys, they like their trouble makers lol

  10. This was fun.....

So as far as I can tell at defensive end we have

    Margus Hunt

    Kemko Turay

    Denico Autry

    Justin Houston

    Tyquan Lewis

How to do we work this out in terms of playing time?  Can any of them be shifted inside?

well it sure makes the decision of going for a DB in the first round, or trading out of first round to get more picks easier lol. I Think the D-line is set. maybe add another DT.

    Imagine:

    Resigned:

    CB: Pierre Desir

    OG: Mark Glowinski

    SS: Clayton Geathers

    DE: Marcus Hunt

    Signed:

    WR: Devin Funchess

    DE: Justin Houston

    RB: Jay Ajayi

    OLB: Aaron Lynch

I would consider that a big success. Super stoked!

we didn't sign Ajayi or Lynch, Unless I missed something

  13. I don't see Ballard trading up. He values his picks way to much to trade them. If he trades a pick at all, I think it will be to move down the board to obtain more picks. BUT I rather see the colts take someone like Deandre Baker Corner from UGA or Byron Murphy CB from Washington. and then go get Zack Allen DE from BC or Jaylon Ferguson DE from LA-Tech early in the second round although I am pretty happy with the defensive line. I  mean heck, they held almost every RB that they faced this last year to under 100 yards. But still wouldn't hurt to get a DE in the draft.

We didn't score much versus chiefs but we also didn't do a good job of shutting  down their offense. So would going defense heavy or offense  in the draft be better.

I think we need to focus on the Defense in FA. If we get Flowers, and someone like Clowney (would be nice to pry him away from Houston and let him go after Watson) and improve the pass rush.....Then come draft day, draft a WR in the first round and then go after a Corner and Safety in the second round Safety Nasir Adderley from Delaware or Florida Safety Chauncey Gardner - Johnson and then Corner Julian Love from Notre Dame. Then mix it up in rounds 3 through 7 with offense and defense. We really only need one more WR, maybe draft a O-lineman later in the draft for depth reasons, but keep a focus on defense still.  But in terms of WR, I really like Keelan Doss  from Cal-Davis. I think he would do good in the Colts offense.

I am sold on the idea of Braden Smith at RT. The Jags were a test for the whole line, but specifically Smith since it meant he’d see a lot of Campbell and Ngouke. And he passed. I say leave him at RT. I like Leonard but Smith is the real steal of the 2018 draft. He’s playing like a 1st rounder. I’m sure If needed he could have the same impact at RG, but leave him at RT. Draft an OT/G to replace our weak backups but RT is no longer a pressing need.

I read on Walterfootball that he is compared to now Jags guard Norwell, but for a guy who was a projected late 2nd rounder to 3rd round pick, I agree he has played at RT like he should have been a first rounder.

The OLine is almost there, getting better every game....Now need to get another weapon for Luck on the opposite end of Hilton. and work on that defense more. I really wanna see Devin White from LSU (MLB) or Josh Allen from Kentucky (OLB) on the colts. Gives help for Leonard in the middle of the defense.

The brother of Carson Palmer (Jason) on QB assessments, including Andrew Luck. Interesting points:

Luck would have gone #1 in any draft since he was drafted.

He and Elway were the only 2 “can’t miss” QBs taken.

Now, he has the protection he’s never had.

Scroll to 8:20 for Luck conversation.

I saw this as well with Peter King (scroll to 9:00.)

I disagree with their projection s of the Colts taking two Olinemen in the draft.

That portion of the video where he said he believes they take 2 lineman, he said the RAMS, not the Colts. yes they were talking about the colts but just funny how they had been talking about them for about 2 minutes and he still mistakenly called them the rams.

But i agree, I think the Colts take 2 more lineman, I honestly feel Greedy Williams at corner would be a better option but if the Colts do win more games I dont see them getting him as he is a projected top 10 pick. that Right Tackle position is a question mark and AC is not getting younger at LT, so drafting a tackle in the first round is not such a bad idea.

I don't get all the Collins love.  Has anyone watched him play? I know the Giants r probably going into rebuild mode next year. However don't u think it is a red flag that a team wants to trade a supposed top tier (as rated by this forum)  24 year old safety????? People on the forum  want this guy and that guy .  However people r just going by a name or what the guy did in college.  They are not even really basing it on what he  has  done in the NFL.  I would like one person on his forum to tell me why we should trade for Collins.  What r his strengths and weaknesses? How is he in coverage and run support?  Is he a fit for this type of defence? What's he like in the locker room? With their own eyes and not what someone told.  I just get kind of tired when  a name pops up everyone says we should trade or sign a player without doing any home work.  I have an idea. If u want the Colts to sign, trade or draft a player give us your own observations.  U mayb wrong but I prefer that then just simply throwing out names. Hope I made sense!!

well when a guy has a 125 tackles, 100 of them solo tackles, 4 sacks, 5 interceptions a fumble recovery, a defensive TD and 13 passes defended in 2016, i'd say its a step up from what we have with Geathers. but that is just my opinion. last year he was playing with a sprained ankle, before he broke his forearm to end his season. He is not a bad defensive player statistically speaking....... and seeing the colts need help in the secondary, this would not have been a bad choice. especially with Geathers I believe is on his contract year this year.

WR2: need someone to take pressure off TY

WR3: Could use a solid slot receiver

Pass Rushers:  I'll take 2 please.

CB:  We need a starting and second CB badly.  I think Desir is ok to play nickel.

SS:  Don't have much faith in geathers and we need to get younger there

2nd LB:  Someone to start opposite of maniac

Rotational Depth:  always good to have backups, especially with the injury bug biting us every year.

it's been reported the Giants would move Collins for a 2nd rounder, Give the JEts 2nd rounder for Collins and then trade Geathers somewhere for a pick
