  1. Oh yeah, and by the way, I'm leaving this forum. I have never shown hostility towards anyone on these boards (until now), but I most definitely have felt, while not directly, a less than receptive environment. I observe any opinion, no matter how outlandish in my eyes. I've noticed many people here don't hold the same standard, and can completely disregard someone else's opinion if it conflicts with their own. All the people who have given me a cute 1-star on my profile because you disagree with some of my opinions, can, quite frankly, embrace my rear. Apparently you cannot have an open-minded discussion with many people here, because it seems some people love their Indianapolis Colts more than the game of football itself. I'll go ahead and appease you, the ones who have a blind adoration for your team, whilst seemingly not sharing the same passion for the game itself. Please, allow me put on my #1 FAN foam hand and disregard anything that makes my favorite team look anything less than immortal.

    1. Peyton Manning is the best ever, bar-none. Tom Brady, Joe Montana, Otto Graham... not even close AT ALL. If there is any other quarterback that can even be considered as the best ever, it's Johnny Unitas.

    2. Tony Dungy not only deserves to be in Canton, but he was as good as Paul Brown, Vince Lombardi, Don Shula, Bill Walsh, Chuck Noll, Bill Belichick, Tom Landry, and John Madden. That Dungy era was a dynasty. Disregard what that guy Jim Mora did, it wasn't like Mora, Irsay, or Polian set Dungy up for success.

    3. Donald Brown CAN be a feature back. He's the future of the running game! He only sat behind a brittle halfback for years, and couldn't take over as starter. Compound that with the fact that he was drafted in the first round, and it totally proves he's not a bust, and he is a legitimate starter. I mean, Joseph Addai was the second coming of Edgerrin James. And he totally lived up to it, too. Joseph Addai lasted a whole SIX seasons in the NFL. And he ALMOST managed to start in 2/3's of those games! Just think, Donald Brown might be as good as that! How could Donald have started over him. It's obvious, Donald just can't compete with that amount of raw talent! I mean, three seasons just can't be enough to prove your talent over a man of that caliber.

    4. Done. I hope you guys are more receptive to new members in the future, because you totally don't come off as believing your ideas and opinions are better than others.

  2. "If you take away the games where he played well, he didn't do very well." -DB Haters

"If you take away The Stretch where he played poorly, he did great." - Peyton Manning worshippers.

If you guys honestly think Brown is a back that can lead the offense with Luck, you're going to be a little upset. Don't jump the above poster, Brown isn't a feature back. If Delone or Vick don't step up, expect us to be drafting a halfback early in April.

  3. There were adjustments that should have been made, and the front office actually acknowledged that with some of the changes that were made before the 2011 season. That doesn't mean the run had to be over. And with Manning, I have no doubt we would have competed for the division title and been in the playoffs. And once that happened, the sky's the limit.

Very truthful. I just don't think Irsay would have nuked the franchise in the offseason this year if he believed Manning and the rest of the team could still compete in the playoffs. Oh well. It's all in the past.

  4. With what was under center it is impossible to judge whether they improved or not.

It is possible to judge the rise of the Texans. They stuck it to us. If they didn't have to use a third string quarterback they could have at least competed to get to the Super Bowl.

  5. You actually said it was the beginning of the end. That's when I chimed in.

And that's my opinion. It was quite evident that it's been a drop off since 2009. 14-2, 10-6. Texans still would have won the division if we had Peyton this year or not, our defense and special teams certainly didn't get better from 2010 to 2011.

  6. Also the lost WC loss was in '08.

That's correct, I forgot about the Chargers...

And there's always two side to every coin. But Manning didn't have a bad year in 2010. He had three bad weeks.

Exactly. No one said he had a bad year, I said it wasn't as good as the previous years. No one has ever said Peyton was the problem of 2010. If there's two sides to every coin, then I think both opinions are sound, considering the fact that both were backed up with plenty of references.

Just because my opinion is different doesn't make it any less educated. It's well educated. I watch every game, and I am very, very knowledgeable about football.

  7. I'm not saying Manning had a great year. I'm certainly not saying the team had a great year. I'm just saying that Manning was forced into a tough situation because of the state of the team, and it showed when you look at The Stretch. Outside of those three games, he was even better than he was in 2009, when he won MVP and we went to the Super Bowl.

If you want a culprit for why we couldn't sustain a long win streak, like we normally did (I think we had at least a 5 game win streak every year from 2003 to 2009), turn to the defense, or the non-existent run game. It wasn't Manning's fault that we only won ten games. I don't even really think The Stretch was Manning's fault entirely.

Edit: One other thing: The fact that he only threw 17 interceptions on 679 attempts is actually an impressive stat. His interception rate in 2010 was lower than it was in 2009, and lower than his career interception rate.

See, it's relatively speculative. The biggest discrepancy here is whether it was Peyton or the rest of the team. Neither is necessarily right, but I think I have a decent claim, whether it's acknowledged or not. His stats were inflated because he had to carry the team, but that isn't an indicator that he had a better season than the previous one. And his interception rating was lower, that was his best stat of the season, I'll give you that. But his touchdown rating was also lower because he had less touchdowns per pass, so it goes both ways.

  8. But it's not a generalization. The fact of the matter is the Colts have always relied on Manning, and he always delivered the W's. With him we had I think like 4 seasons where we started 6-0. That season we never could get hot until the end, and then we lost in the Wild Card, the first Wild Card loss since the early 2000's. Manning was obviously frustrated with himself. And passing yards aren't indicative of a quarterback's success, their frivolous.

His passing stats were inflated because he had the second most single season pass attempts ever.

Peyton threw the ball more than

    100 times

than the 2009 season, but he still threw the same number of touchdowns, and threw one more interception. That's not good, considering the fact that Peyton is a human stat sheet. The whole team wasn't up to snuff, and that includes Peyton.

  9. Having a win streak "at the end" of the season, is normally a real good time to have a win streak... :P

No doubt. I just think everyone was inconsistent from top to bottom, and inconsistency is one of the worse things you can have. The Jaguars nearly won the division that year.

  10. Manning didn't underperform; that's the point people are trying to make.

But that's incredibly subjective. You can't blame it all on injuries, the Colts have always battled injuries, not just that season. And you can't just ignore that crappy stretch, it was part of the season. You can't pick and choose which games to remember when you look back on a season. That season was one of the most inconsistent seasons of the Manning era, at our best we had a four win steak, and that was right up at the end. Our playoffs pretty much started four weeks early. Passing yards are worth diddly-poo when you throw 10+ interceptions in 3 games, that's not elite at all. Yards don't win games, they just look pretty on a stat sheet. At the least he was inconsistent, which is highly uncharacteristic of Peyton.

  11. Who ever said Caldwell would even try to escape the paper bag?

He'd stare at it and look aimlessly. By the time he'd conjure a strategy, he'd be suffocating.

I am going to be honest, I am severely disappointed we let go of Jim Caldwell

    Ha.

  12. That catch around 24 seconds is my favorite Harrison catch ever. Bouncing it off Punk Vrabel's grill was the cherry on top.

    It's been awhile..

Yeah... I gotta quit watching those videos, many emotions wrapped up in that.
