  1. 1) The Colts got beat, and would've been beaten regardless of ball pressure.

    2) The Colts did not get beaten fair and square, because the Patriots cheated. If they did this, it's reasonable to assume they may have done other things we aren't aware of.

    3) The game should've been cancelled at the half. The refs discovered the Patriots balls were underinflated at the half. They should've come out and blown a whistle, informing the fans that the game has been forfeit and the Colts win due to the discovery of cheating by the Patriots. No other competition would allow the game to continue after a discovery of cheating by one team.

    4) The NFL should have it's premiere event, the Super Bowl, boycotted by the bulk of fans.

    5) Our sports culture in America is sick because we allow this.

    6) I don't care about the Super Bowl. I'm not watching it this year, and I implore everyone else to do the same.

    7) We didn't lose because of ball pressure. However, the Patriots should've lost because they cheated.

Great post ruksak.  We didn't come out to play on Sunday, and I doubt there's anyone who would say that we lost because of the cheating.

The sickening thing to me, though, is how many people who are coming out and saying "it doesn't matter, the game wasn't close" or "everyone does it, who cares?"  What's happened to our culture where cheating isn't a big deal any more??  How can people possibly justify or overlook the blatant lack of integrity displayed here?  What is this telling our kids?  Our culture has gone from one where integrity is paramount to one where cheating's not a big deal and a lot of people don't even think it should be punished?  I'll admit I despise the Patriots, but even if this were the Colts or Broncos (yes, I'm a Broncos fan now too thanks to Peyton) I would want them punished for blatant cheating.

Oh, and I'm also with you on passing on the Super Bowl this year.  I wasn't real interested in it before because I can't stand either team, but now I definitely won't be supporting it.

  2. shecolt, that picture of him with the double amputee was my favorite part as well, though maybe for a different reason.  The soldier in that picture with Peyton was a West Point graduate, class of 2010.  My wife and I were in the same company (about 120 cadets) as him, although we graduated 2 years before him.  He is a friend of ours, and she was actually deployed to Afghanistan at the same time he was.  She actually visited him in the hospital there every night until they flew him out and sent updates to his friends and family.  It's a really great story (not that he lost his legs, but that he lived).  He actually holds the record for the most blood received by anyone who lived.  I really loved seeing that picture of Peyton with him

Last, but far from least, was the pic of Peyton standing next to a man learning to walk on his prosthetic legs and Peyton writing, " If I ever whine or complain about anything ever again, then shame on me after what I witnessed today."

  3. Caldwell was the fall guy.He was simply a puppet of the Polians trying to deal with a limited supply of tools available to try to make the best of a terrible situation compounded by the fact the Polians didn't have a long term master plan.

How was Caldwell the fall guy? The Polians were fired well before he was. I really do believe them when they say they sat down, talked and thought about it, and believe that this is what's best for the team (which I agree with by the way)

  4. It's quite simple Caldwell has had 2 great years he took a team to being basically unbeaten in his rookie year as a HC and had the guts to rest our starters when most of the fans wanted them to go for the unbeaten season and go to the super bowl. Also I fined it interesting how people say he got out coached in the Sb despite our receivers dropping a lot but so that all the wins against some of the best minds in football weren't on him. I know our season records have gotten worse but so have our injuries. He got us to the play-offs with as battered team as you will see and we narrowly lost to a team that got to the championship match. This year we lost all three of our captains one being Manning and had a bad year yes but our team didn't give up and stressed you out about losing the 1st pick with our only proper leader left being Saturday so yes Caldwell is a leader. You don't need to get emotional to do this how did that work for Haley and Ryan when they team was under pressure. He kept us going and restored some honour to this franchise. So yes has achievements over the last 3 years means he deserves a chance to prove himself once more even if it's just one more year.

All I want us Caldwell to appoint himself as offensive co-ordinator and fire the one we've got so its only him and Manning and Hire a good big name defensive co-ordinator (Spags, Del rio or Singletary)

Not trying to get into an argument here, but how exactly did he restore honor to the team? I fail to see how a 2-14 season that had a lot of people around the league wondering throughout most of the year if we were purposely tanking to get the #1 pick is honorable. And why did we need to restore honor, when did we lose it in the first place?

To your other points, I (and many others) believe that Caldwell was just riding Dungy's team to the Super Bowl in his first season, and as for last season, that was more Peyton than JC. Same kind of thing happened in Tampa when Dungy was fired there. Gruden took over and won the Super Bowl. Then they steadily declined until he was replaced. I think that's what's going on here. JC isn't the reason for the positives that you mention, he's just there.

  5. Some of the points about Clark are valid, but don't be naive: Tamme is nowhere near as good. He was productive because of Manning, and because no one bothered covering him. Clark drew 2 or 3 guys on every play, and still put up big numbers (with Manning), while also freeing up the rest of the offense.

Agree. How much cap space does he (Clark) take? I think if we can, keep him. Assuming Manning comes back, I have a feeling he'll be back to his performance from the past, which will help a lot, especially if we end up losing Wayne.

  6. I'd love to see him get some votes (has that ever happened for someone who didn't play a snap?) but don't think he should win it. As much as we all love Peyton, I think it would be a little disrespectful to the players who did play, and Peyton might not even appreciate it much, being the classy guy he is. I think getting votes would make at least a bit of a statement

  7. Thank you for sharing this. I love  Pat. Not only has he been one of the few bright spots this year, but reading this and knowing that he is growing his hair for Locks of Love tells me that he is a really great guy.

Also, thank you :thanks: to you and your wife for your service. I hope and pray that she soon safely returns home.

Thanks SheColt! She's coming home in less than a month. Can't wait!

  8. In a year with so little to be happy or excited about, this guy's one of the bright spots on our team. I just saw this article on IndyStar that made me respect him even more. He's starting a foundation to help give a full-ride scholarship for children of military families. I'm a little biased, being former military myself, and with my wife currently in the Army and deployed to Afghanistan, but anyone who honors the military gets even more points in my book. Here's the link: http://www.indystar.com/article/20111121/SPORTS03/111210363/He-aims-aid-military-kids

  9. Why do people have such a hard time seeing what Peyton is? He is one of the best QB's to ever play the game, but that doesn't mean his game doesn't have flaws. I really wonder at times if people just can't see the facts beyond their blue tinted glasses.

Wait, we're the ones with the blue tinted glasses, while you're saying we should just blindly trust Polian and Caldwell and everyone else who "knows better", even though what we have been seeing every week this season, and what we've seen the team trending towards these past few years speaks against that? Wow... just wow

  10. Never, but my employer doesn't have a salary cap issue like the NFL does. If these were the good ole days of the NFL were teams could spend whatever they wanted, then I would no problem with Peytons deal, but the NFL operates under a salary cap and to have 1 player count so highly against that cap isn't wise. Think how much more space we would have if say the top 5 paid players on the Colts took just 20% less then their actualy contract paid them. They still get a great contract and the colts have how much more money to go add players.

So how much more of a cut does Peyton need to take to not be greedy? I don't know how much of a cut he already took from what Irsay was offering him, but what is acceptable?

  11. Yes I see Peyton as Greedy, he could have accepted alot less, still be very well paid and freed up more monies to address other issues. The only lack of ability with Peyton I have spoken on is his passing ability. He in my opinon doesn't have a strong arm, but he is able to make up for that by being able to put his WR/RB/TE is the best position to catch the passes.

I really can't understand this. It is documented that he took less than he was offered, and would have taken less still, in fact he wanted to, but Irsay wouldn't let him. Irsay had already said that he was going to make him the highest paid in the league, and he stuck to that. How is that Peyton's fault? How is he greedy? He didn't hold out for more, he gave back as much as he could. HE was also the one who put the clause in to make sure the Colts could opt out of the contract if he doesn't recover from his injury. That was Peyton's doing, no one elses. Tell me, how is that greedy? In my opinion, he did everything that he could to make sure he took care of the team.

  12. Whats worse than 0-9? Having the play on the field be so bad that our fans are paying attention to what others are wearing rather than the game.

Can't help what they're showing on TV. Guess that has something to do with the play on the field though...

  13. Ummm Manning had the same hype when he was in college.

Were the fans of a team with arguably the best ever QB still with 4 years on his contract, who could still come back to play, buying and wearing Peyton's jersey at that time though? I'm not trying to pick a fight or anything, I really just don't know.

  14. Thanks. Things have been a little ugly around here with all the losing, and threads get derailed to the point of being unreadable. I agree with your comments. McAfee is a standout player that we are kind of taking for granted at this point. I can't imagine where things would be if his performance was erratic as well. The guy has many and varied talents. Considering that he is the third string QB, and how difficult it is for this team to find a way to win, I'm surprised that we haven't seen any fake punts (not that I'd have wanted to do it from that position on the field).

That's the kind of decision I, and I think a lot of other posters, would like to see from the coaches. Obviously not from that kind of field position, but in some of the other positions we've been this year, why have we just been punting it away when we still have a chance, however slight? The D has been gassed in the second half of a lot of our games, and some of the punts toward the end of the games have just made no sense to me. I think there have been times for some more risky plays that we just haven't attempted.

  15. How about addressing the "actual" issue instead of parsing his words, taking offense at absolutely nothing, and trying to start a fight. I have absolutely no idea how you came to your conclusion about his intent. There is enough genuine animosity exchanged on this forum without someone inventing more out of thin air.

Wow, my bad, I must have worded that badly. I just found it a bit strange that someone who finds issue with most people's critiques of the coaches would word it that way.

As for the "actual" issue, I agree with what most people say on here. While I really don't agree with a lot of what the coaches have done this season, that punt was not something that I had a problem with. Now, how the special teams have been performing (besides Pat that is) is an issue, like the terrible blocking on that play. I think there have been a lot of much worse problems with the coaching this season than the decision not to take a safety while down 3-0 still early in the game.

And I've felt that we've needed to run the ball more all season, but I'm pretty sure that's been brought up before this thread as well

  16. number28 may not be making a lot of friends on this board this week . . . but to answer your question . . . posts along the following lines might reflect a fan base turning on its team

    1) The fire the coach threads, and

    2) the "lets cheer 'fire the coach' at the next home game" thread

some may say, that a coach that that took you to a 14-0 season, took you to 10-6 with a multiple of injuries, should get a pass from the fan base . . . just saying . . .

not sure if chanting "fire caldwell" at a home game is something that is not inconsistent with turning on a coach . . .

I haven't read that "fire Caldwell chant" thread because I don't agree with doing that at all. While I don't think he's a good coach, I would never agree that doing that is the right thing. So I don't know how many people have agreed with that poster, hopefully that was a joke though. However, I don't think that having the opinion that your coach isn't cutting it and that the team needs a change in that area is being a backstabbing fan... I think this just means that the fans can see that there is something wrong with the team as it is right now, and that we all love the team enough to want changes made so that we can get back on track as fast as possible. I don't see this as backstabbing at all. But maybe that's just me.

  17. yeah, what does that have to do with anything. we still have some of the most backstabbing fans in the world. Look at how our fans turned on the team this year. Are you blind?

Please, tell me how the fans have been backstabbing or turning on the team. I haven't seen this at all, but I'd be interested to know why you think so...

  18. Curtis Painter doesn't get my ire for one reason, which is that I have very low expectations of him. He's a 6th round pick who never gets to play or practice.

What does irritate me though, is the complete and total disappearance of guys like Wayne and Clark. I get there is going to be a drop off. But if these guys are who we've thought they were the past 10 years, they need to be the ones stepping up and leading this offense by example.

    Reggie Wayne and 36 yards.

    Dallas Clark had 0.

I could be wrong, but I don't remember Clark getting a single target. Did he get thrown to once tonight?
