So theoretically he was successful with the Ravens, who went 5-11 this year (vs our 8-8 with Manusky). Can he develop the players we have or does he need to work with a clean slate? Is he going to have input on his defense or forced to work with what we have and what Grigson hires?

The Ravens were decimated by injuries this past season, as the injuries had a negative impact on the Colts as well.  Yes, he was very successful here in Baltimore, not just last season, but in his tenure with the team. Fans here are MAD about the departure, because they saw him as the heir apparent, and the bright spot on the D coaching staff.  They are happy for him getting this opportunity, but I'm sure there's an extra sting to losing him to the Colts.

  2. Bills have claimed LB IK Enemkpali

Well, there goes any chance the Colts had of becoming a dynasty.  Guys like, um, Enemkpali only come along once in a lifetime. Maybe more often. Darn you, Rex! Why did you do this to Colts nation? Oh well, I'll wait patiently until the next "The Colts should sign" thread, and hope the signing happens...

  3. Well I'm from Harford County and I guess we don't have the suave and manners of the Prince Frederick/ Waldorf crowd ! Lol Most of the folks down there are Redskins fans anyway, and most were never Colt, or current Ravens fans ?

Wow, funny how the internet shrinks the world.  I'm in Harford County as well.  Moved here from the Indy area, so it has been interesting at times. As a Colts fan in Ravens country, it really hasn't been as bad as some may portray.  Is there still anger? Yes, in some.  There's a sadness and a void in more.  I have many conversations about the Colts, and (in my expereince), people have moved on, or are in the process.  There's a strange rivalry almost.  Not the hatred of the Steelers or Pats, but more along the lines of someone dating the one that got away.  You'll always see that one in a negative light.  The Super Bowl wins and real division / conference rivals seem to be deflating the issue more than the Pats equipment managers.  Most of the negative attention I get is of the friendly nature.

Need to get out to Indy to get some more of the new generation.

  5. Just wondering with Dallas not have the cap room for Murray , how can he be rumored going there. I've seen this before and I think it makes no sense and is far fetched. AZ is also tight on the cap but they maybe can make room by tweaking a few more contracts. I've read nothing that says Peterson is willing to  play for peanuts if traded to a contender or his favorite team ... the Cowboys.

    Not even an orange peanut?

  6. It really showed during that standing ovation they gave him in pre-season.

There were a lot of people here (in the Baltimore area) who, believe it or not, were disgusted with that reaction.  There will be, and are currently, many supporters of him in this area, but the vast majority of the reaction I am seeing and hearing has been very negative.  I think part of the "pass" he was given locally was due to his positive activities and actions.  He was (is?) very active in the community, and seemed to be an advocate for kids in many ways.  That made the situation hard to swallow for many.  But to see the brutality of the action has put the totality of it right in our sight, and it is a horrible image.  I talked with a few fans who were among the supporters early on.  They are mortified that they showed support now.  This is damaging for the league, the team and the player.  More unfortunately, many of our kids look to these players to see how they should live their lives.  I hope that we are offering examples in our lives that are showing something different than what the kids are, all too often, exposed to in society.

  7. Wasn't able to get there, but did watch from home.  I'll admit, I turned the TV off about 30 times, for a grand total of about 75 seconds.  Got frustrated over and over, but hope, confidence or morbid curiosity got the best of me for a while.  Then the points started to even out, momentum swung, and I was glued to the set for the rest of the spectacle.

  8. Looking at the schedule before the season started, I thought the Colts would be 2 - 1 going into week 4.  I didn't think the loss would come to the Fins, however.  I'd imagine many others here had the same thought as far as the  record.  Yesterday's game was a great one.  This season is young, the team is young, but I love the way things are coming together.  I do expect some bumps on the road, but I'm thrilled to be along for the ride.

And, hey, we aren't Giants, Redskins, Jags, Vikings, or Bucs fans right now, right?

  9. This being his first real crack at FA as a GM (yep, he was GM last year, but the Colts were cash strapped), I'm not going gloom and doom nor professing him as the best ever after this season. I believe the Colts are improved, and will continue to improve.

I'm more likely to give him a bit of a pass, as his signings seem to be fiscally responsible. Look at the situation the team was in, big money tied up in a few pieces. He's working to build a team, and I have faith that the team will be a monster. But we will see some pieces get discarded along the way.

If the majority of the signings turn out to be a bust, and he follows up the same way in foll, I'll worry. For now, I like his approach. Too many holes to fill at once, especially if he was going for the "splash".

  10. It is likely Ray's last game here in Baltimore, and the right thing for the fans.  They'll come out and give him their final farewell, knowing it is probably the last time they'll see him in game action at M&T.  I think that was probably a big part of his motivation to make the announcement when he did.  There's veteran leadership up and down the Ravens team, now coupled with the motivation of beating the hated Colts (who left before a good many of the Ravens fans were born) as well as sending Ray off right.

The Colts are (obviously) a young team with some veteran leadership.  If they can jump on the Ravens early and stuff the run, they'll take the crowd out of it.  I don't think the players on either side need more motivation, but it will be interesting to see if Ray is at game speed, and if the emotion takes a toll.

  11. I've always been critical of the term "clutch". For example, a QB is not going to think "there are 7 minutes left in the 3rd quarter, I don't need to complete this pass" and then think "there are 2 minutes left in the 4th quarter, I should complete this pass". If you ask me, the players try to accomplish their goal every time. Regardless of the time on the clock, the QB is going to look for a positive play.

Peyton falls behind just so he can rack up another 4th quarter comeback, so he throws incompletions / interceptions in the 1st 3 quarters just so he can have that 4th quarter glory. At least I heard this from a reputable source. Or not...
