He played one game at center in his entire career.
no i mean when it comes to blocking schemes
-
Well that goes with the work hard part since we should be hitting the weight room. And mini camp is right around the corner
yeah he should be a stud
-
i believe hes stronger than his 17 bench press reps indicate since he had to stop after pulling a muscle
-
He could if he works hard & puts his mind too it.
or if he just improves his strength
-
most importantly though, holmes looks like a great center and grigs wouldnt have gotten him if he didnt fit the scheme
-
That's what "experts" said about John Cooper for most of the draft process...yet he was drafted by the Cardinals ahead of Warmack.
cooper is really strong tho and versatile
-
Well then back to a point I made awhile back, just call it the Multiple offense
Do you think holmes will be able to adjust to this primarily man blocking scheme? because it would be illogical to always switch up centers
-
do you guys think holmes could hold up in a primarily power scheme like that?
-
To be clear, he said that we were running a man-blocking scheme with a little zone peppered in. Not a pure ZBS. Mostly a MBS.
oh okay. that sounds better cuz i prefer a man blocking scheme ! thanks.
-
oh really, all along I thought we are running a man blocking scheme.... thanks for clearing it up tho. What did we run last year?
-
could someone please tell me why we drafted khaled holmes if we are going to employ a man-blocking scheme? I mean everywhere I read, it says that he is suited for a ZBS
-
I love the pick, had him next on my board after both guards and jarvis were gone

I dont think Datone Jones would be a good fit in our version of the 3-4. I could be wrong however.
-
If he plays OLB, you are going to use him as a rush OLB in 3rd down situations. To play 1st and 2nd downs, he has to learn it from scratch. Meaning he will have a limited role his first couple of years (in a best case scenario). I don't see a player that can turn and cover a RB or TE. I think he is a 4-3 DE.
Plus, one more ACL issue and he is pretty much done. You want to put your precious 1st round pick on the line like that?
I believe hes capable of playing 3 downs.. up to the front office to decide how they want to use him. Look at Aldon Smith for a solid comparison. He played defensive end at missouri but was capable of playing OLB in a 3-4 and now he is lighting up the position. Now with the ACL, he looks like he is way ahead of schedule, so the acl looks really healthy and is holding up so i essentially think he has an equal chance as anyone of injuring it in a given time
-
He can definitely play OLB as he showed his athleticism and versatitlity at his pro day

I think Jones is better suited for either our LG slot or Center and both are filled (seemingly) right now even if many of us are not high on the player or players that are there at least yet, Brian Winters or Travis Frederick or Kyle Long are guys Im lookin at in the 3rd, I'd like Jones, he might fit there but I dont see it UNLESS we are going to a Zone scheme, which I think could still be possible, Ultimately I want Cooper above all of those because I think he can fit either schemWhich
Which blocking scheme does Alabama run? Ive seen conflicting reports in which one said that they run a zone look and the other a man-power look
-
What happened to him that made him fall to the 3rd iirc he was being talked as a selection for pick 24 a few weeks ago.
I believe he injured his foot in the BCS championship game and hasnt worked out since.... apparently he'll be able to start running and doing drills next month
-
I definitely agree with you in needing that mauler RG first. I just think Jones would help Luck tremendously with protection calls and such. He could be the anchor of the line.
-
Hopefully he does. It is possible he does with the absence of him conducting any workouts

I like the fact that he is smart and is a proven leader. That is hard to teach, while he could easily gain more strength through out the offseason.
