  1. Boy this is waste of my time.  I guess we are going to get rid of a a rookie WR that just had 861 yards and 7 TD.  I guess we are going to roll over all of that cap space over for the 2014 offseason.  We are surely going to make a couple of splashes besides one freaking guard.

    Here is the real lineup

    QB: Luck

    RB: Ballard

    LT: Costanzo

    RG: Levitre

    C: Satele/Shipley or B Jones

    LG: Ijalana/ draft pick

    RT: Bushrod/Vollmer

    TE: Fleener

    TE: Allen

    WR: Wayne

    WR: Hilton

  2. ever since kiper mocked watson for us, it seems like every mock draft people post on here is watson, watson, watson......

for starters he is not 1st round talent.

2 we dont have luxury to take a project like watson or ashel(BYU)....We need a player that can come in and start right away....thats why im hoping for Jones or Rhodes or Jordan in the first round. all impact players at the positions i think we need most help at OL,CB, OLB(mathis isnt getting younger).

First you need to realize that D Jordan will go in the top 15 because of his scheme versatility (OLB 3-4, DE 4-3) and his freak atheltic skills.  Jones probably goes somewhere between 15-22 because there are many teams in that range that need OL help just like us.  Also Jones is a  very versatile lineman. (I am sure you realize that not trying to be a dick).  That leaves Rhodes I agree that he would be one hell of a secondary player corner or safety.  I just think that there are some guys in Free agency that we are going to go after that will some what negate the need for Rhodes.  Such as D Goldson (SF), M Jenkins (Dallas), A Cason(SD), and maybe even B Grimes from (ATL).

I understand that it would be a big stretch for Watson in RND 1 now but I don't think that it will be after the combine.  I know that is a bunch of guys running around in shorts.  But there is a reason a guy goes from playing basketball at Marist to JC to FSU, and starting a highly ranked team, in the span of about 2 years.  Also I have seen many FSU people say that he was their best OL this season on a team that increased its rushing yards considerably from the previous season and also protected their passers much better when he was in the game versus when he was out with injury.

  3. Oh also I found that he is 24 not 25.  He will play most of his rookie season at 24.  Also you have to remember this guy does not have the wear and tear on his body from being and OL since he was in Middle School or Pop Warner.  So if is a great one he could be great until he is 34 or 35.  Didn't we have a pretty good LT by the name of Glenn who played about the same amount of time.

  4. Wasn't Ugho thought to be the athletic boom or bust project with work ethic concerns? Unfortunately, this team can't afford to take a project because he can't just sit back and learn to protect Luck, he needs to be able to protect Luck out of the gate, there is nobody for him to sit behind and learn from. If we were able to trade back into the top of the second and get a high 3rd or a late 2nd and the. Grab him, I would be opposed. Rhodes wouldn't be a bad pick up at the end of the first unless we don't get our FA oline RT/G resolved. FA will show a bit of what we will do cause I would assume we will hit early and hard when FA opens so really no need in guessing who we get in the draft. Always busts that were supposed to be booms and vise versa.

I would agree that picking this guy at 24 at this point would be a big gamble but also their is going to be a lot of evaluation between now and April.  If he was evaluated as at least a 2nd Round Pick when he filed his entry papers for the draft then who is to say how good he is when the Colts and every other talent evaluator get a look at him at the Combine/Pro Day/Indiviual workouts.

Here is the story about his initial evaluation by the league office.  It is a ESPN insider story

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Florida State offensive lineman Menelik Watson began the season having played just eight games of organized football in his life. He ended it as perhaps the team's top lineman, and he plans to announce his intention to enter the NFL draft, according to two sources close to the player.

Watson, a native of England, started 12 games at right tackle for Florida State this season, his first after transferring from Saddleback College in California. He was an integral part in a revamped offensive line for FSU, which allowed 14 fewer sacks than it had the previous season and nearly doubled its rushing yardage.

Watson came to the United States on a basketball scholarship to Marist and played for two years before deciding to give football a try. After just eight games at Saddleback, he was widely recruited by dozens of top schools.

At 6-foot-6, 320 pounds, Watson's combination of size and athleticism allowed for a quick transition to football, and by mid-August, he'd secured the starting job at right tackle for FSU. Only a few nagging injuries slowed him this season, but they also proved his value. In the 10 quarters he missed due to injury, FSU allowed 10 sacks. In the other 11.5 games he played, the Seminoles gave up just 16.

Watson reportedly submitted paperwork to NFL evaluators who suggested he would likely be a second-round selection.

I do think that this at this point has to be considered for our pick at 24 because at this point we don't know who the Colts are going to acquire in the early FA period.

  5. With the speculation that we will have in the neighborhood of about 40-45 MIL to spend in FA and the draft this is a rough idea for FA and some of the needs after the first wave of FA leading into the draft.  Just speculation on the salaries based on some of the current salaries of the top players at each position.  We have not had this much money to spend in a very long time and I wanted to see kinda what 40 MIL would look like with players attached.

    FA

    J Bushrod or S Vollmer $6.0MIL

    A Levitre $5.0MIL

    A Spencer $8.5MIL

    D Goldson $7.5MIL

    A Cason $3.5MIL

    M Jenkins $3.5MIL

    P Mcaffee $2.5MIL

    F Moala  $3.5MIL

    Total on FA = 39.5MIL

    Draft

1st  BPA on DL/OLB/WR (Don't kill me on the WR because will need at least 1 if Avery and Collie are gone)

3rd  BPA on OL  Someone to compete at G if not start this season.  (would like to see Ijalana be a beast at RG)

The rest of the picks depends on depth and future replacements.

  6. Wayne, Hilton, Brzail, Palmer, Whalen, possibly Collie and/or Avery(not sure if any will be back). DO we need WR. NO. WR is no where the top of our priorties. we have so many holes. MLB and WR are our deepest positions. We need to focus on CB,OLB,OL,DL maybe K bc Vinitari is on his last leg in FA/Draft/Undrafted.

So you think that Collie and Avery could be back.  I don't see it.  Avery dropped to many balls that could have been big plays.  I am skeptical that Collie will ever play football again let alone for the Colts too many injuries and further to many head injuries ( I know the season ender was a knee injury but with all of the concussions he has sustained I as the Colts would not want to put a guy on the field with those problems.)  I give you possibly Whalen.  Also Wayne Hilton and even Brazil.  But I don't think Palmer is anything more than a special team player.  If Avery and Collie are gone they need another reciever.  I am not saying that it should be our #1 priority for the off-season I am saying if the rest of the plan I layed happens then WR is a possiblity.

I like the thought but I have a little different take.  I don't think a trade for 2 2nd round picks is going to materialize where the picks are high enough to get B Jones & R Woods.  I am not saying that there isn't a trade for 2 2nd rounders but it would be for one higer in the round pick and one lower.

As far as the free agents go I like the thought but I would sub in J Bushrod at RT(I don't think that the PATS let Vollmer get away because the most important thing for them is to protect Brady), Levitre at LG(I think it will be a familiar name at RG), A Spencer at OLB(I think he just has more talent then Kruger even though Kruger is 2years younger), D Goldson at SS(I think he should be our #1 priority behind OL because there just aren't that many impact players on the market this offseason and he could be one), & go for two lesser corners for the 2nd and 3rd CB spots such as A Cason & M Jenkins(this is where you save money to get Goldson).  I like maybe getting the Armstead kid formerly of USC(CFL guy).

I like the idea of taking an heir apparent to R Wayne at WR in the draft because of guy potentially being on the board late 1st early 2nd like D Hopkins from Clemson, K Allen from Cal, & R Woods from USC.  Not really impressed as of yet with the 2 WRs from Tennessee.  I don't think we need another small WR like Tavon Austin either.

  8. For those interested in some background on this guy here you go

To me at first glance you would say this guy shouldn't be a first rounder because he is so raw.  But that being said I would at least consider it because he already has all the skills and traits to be a pro bowl right tackle.  He just needs to be coached on some technique.  Also if you can go from never playing football to 2 years later being a starter at FSU  you must have something between the ears.
