  1. So I was reading an article on B/R called "Manti Te'o may be a punch line , but What does the game tape say?" By Michael Schottey and it had a few paragraphs near the beginning about the draft process and mocks that I thought were dead on. Anyway, I thought I'd post them for you guys to see. I think there's a lot of people that post comments on mock draft sites that would benefit from reading this. Enjoy!

"First, let's take a second to talk about the draft process.

It's easy to bash someone like Mel Kiper who is more visible than any other draft expert (and not just because you can see his hair from space). NFL personnel guys don't love Kiper, but they respect him because he puts his opinions out there. Scouts can hop from job to job and no one really knows who they've missed on. Kiper has to deal with scores of fans who forget his successes and save his mistakes on Youtube.

So, rather than just scream "Kiper is wrong!" like I'm sure many have, it's worthwhile to talk about what mocks are.

First, the idea that mocks predict what a team will do is laughable at best. Anything outside of the top few picks is a complete crap shoot and the first trade will immediately deep-six any mock's accuracy on draft day. Want to start predicting trades? You might as well play the lottery because the odds are better.

Some draft media peg their mock draft accuracy as a sign of their expertise. Frankly, that's the intellectual equivalent of falling out of your chair, landing in an athletic-looking stance and claiming you're a ninja.

Real draft expertise is found in player grades holding up over time. Call a guy an all-time great and he flops? That's a ding against your record. Call a guy a top pick and two teams decide they have more pressing needs and that's just incorrect educated guessing. Because guess what, when teams set up their draft boards, all of them are just as wrong on what the first round will actually look like as media is. "

  2. I like it! I've seen a lot of mocks having us take Richardson in the 1st rd and I can't say that would be a bad choice. Not sure Cave lasts into the 6th but I definitely wouldn't mind having him. I actually thought Shipley played better than Satelle so it wouldn't bother me to see Satelle walk and have Shipley and Cave going forward. Haven't seen any Fresno St games this year so I'll have to check out this Safety you have listed.

  3. F/A

wes welker.(move hilton up to 2) not conserned justd be nice

brent grimes.(so we have a cb to line up with davis and butler/powers for nickle) cherry on top

anthoney spencer(if hits f/a) or kruger either would be nice 2nd so draft wouldnt have to be all defense and we can go for more in the draft with our limited picks

idonije or melton for -would want either same as above

long and levitre(top priorites) move costanzo over to rt where he played in college

    draft

1st jordan (if he doesnt move up) if he does okafor would be nice but i would love to see indy take a chance on lattimore because our last dominant back was james. dont really see ballard being a back for big numbers.

3rd go for a&m olb if jordan isnt 1st pick.

4th move bathea over to ss to replace zib pick up tyrann mathieu and move hiim to fs where his skill set will employ the best and special teams is a plus as a dynamic return like patterson of the cards or go oline here if fa doesnt fill any holes

I absolutely loved watching Lattimore play in college, but I don't know if I would spend a first rd pick on a guy with 2 surgically reconstructed knees that may not even be ready to play until the 2014 season

  4. Actually I've read a couple pieces saying they expect the 49ers to let Goldson walk. He was franchised for this year, but they have too many up coming contracts on defense...plus they supposedly have a young safety the are high on.

    .

Well, if that's the case he would definitely be a good pick up. He'd be expensive but you have to have good Safeties these days. Definitely a position worth shelling out some cash
