  1. if number 18 isnt under center, he is calling the plays on the sideline, and imagine what offense strategy he'd come up with more free time... a back up is all about building a team for # 18 to finish out his last 5 years as strong as possible, and depth will do that; even at the QB position. All it takes is him to push recovery and get hit wrong and there goes our season.. and ultimately 1 less ring for his legacy

  2. Our 06 defense was terrible until Sanders came back... Then Sanders just destroyed the post season. I think our defense will be fine this year, if not rather good but since this is the colts we're talking about... until regular season starts, we won't see crap from them

  3. Maybe its just better to put Addai in as QB, j/k, There doesn't seem to be a good option at backup.

lol well Addai has a 150+ QB Rating in regular season whereas Painter has 9ish QB Rating in regular season.... :tvhammer:

There was a thread a week or two ago comparing those two... its fun to read if you have a few

  4. Dungy was a great coach. Caldwell attempts to be Dungy, but without the brains. We need a head coach that can turn our defense into a monster, and willing to listen to Manning to get him what he needs on the offense -- like Dungy did. It is to close to the season to get a new coach, but I would like to see Caldwell back into a support role, and a new hire coach.

  5. We have to bite the bullet with cost and get a back-up that can run our offense. Their goal has been to build the team to make Manning have a strong last 5 years, but without a back-up QB, than whenever he isn't playing than we will get destroyed. If every game he is out due to this recurring injury means we lose the game, than that is a season-killer.

  6. They might want to spend their money in building a team for Manning to finish out a strong 5 years, but without a depth even at the QB position, we aren't going to get anywhere. We should get Quinn from the Broncos, because if Quinn gets put into the Colts system, and taught by Manning, than he will be a Star back-up QB for us. It is a vital position we need... most of us all agree that without a back-up we have a better chance putting the most random player we have at QB in order to keep our current back-ups off the field. We are going to have to bite the bullet in terms of cost, because without a back-up QB, if Manning neck isn't ready or gets hurt again because other teams just don't care about injuring opponents than we have no hope whatsoever.

  7. Cut all 3 of our QBs and get either Quinn, Tebow, or Clausen.... Any 3 would solve our back-up problem. Any 3 could start game 1 and we'd have a chance to win... Quinn would be a great fit. Clausen would be the 2nd best, and Tebow 3rd best. Keep putting it off and we'll get to game 1 and if Manning still can't play than we'd be starting Addai as QB... We need to solve our back-up problem sooner opposed to later

  8. Agreed, Quinn was better than Smith in college... Furthermore, Quinn played for Notre Dame. The hype about having another local back (Same hype Davis got for being from Ball State) is a great thing to have in a back-up QB. It puts a lot of support into them when they play. While I might be a bias ND Fan, I think Quinn would do great in our system and we could get him for cheap

  9. Pay has nothing to do with who starts and who doesnt. He either isn't the type of guard that fits into our system well, or he just doesn't play up to par with the options that we have. They are revamping the line this year, because of how bad it was last season. He was part of the problem, and he'll have to prove his worth just like the rest of the guys (except for Saturday). And, Manning will never say anything bad about his line. Because when a QB talks crap about his line, egos get hurt and blocks get missed...

  10. We should try for either Pryor or get and rebuild Brady Quinn. Pryor is just trying to get into the NFL, so we know if he gets a shot he'll work hard, and he'll take being a back-up opposed to nothing. Quinn used to be a great QB but the Browns murdered him and the Broncos will never give him a shot. If Quinn gets to spend time to learn from Manning, he could be a solid back-up.

  11. Not trying to get involved in this love fest.... but;

Why don't we look into Pryor? The kid is just trying to get into the NFL, and we have 7 mil cap space (not that we would us 7 mil on him, but we have a bit of space to play with). He was a good Ohio State QB, and could develop into a solid back up for us. Furthermore, he would be better than Painter because... lets be honest... Painter is color blind and can't tell the jerseys apart during pass plays.

  12. We aren't getting TJ. We need a 1-3 year WR. I'd say T.O. because the Colts have a system to handle him, and his reputation will force teams to double him up. If we can Wayne or T.O 1 on 1 because the defense is stretched to thin with our WR/TE/RB core than it will be a big play. T.O. wants rings and the Colts can give him rings. Moss could do the same, but T.O. has the ego to do anything to win whereas Moss has the reputation to play when he wants to play.

  13. Which closely resembled my appearance the other night. Nobody is more willing to give a pass to the team for overall performances in preseason than I. However, individual poor performances from a QB that has never exhibited even an acceptable performance, I will not grant a pass for that.

Painter sucks eggs. I dare him to prove me wrong Friday night.

Oh come on... Painter is just trying to be the # 1 fan for our defense. He wants to give em the whole 60 minutes for their glory, not his... He is just being unselfish... Besides, you're asking to much. If Painter throws 1 TD i will be happy. If Painter doesn't throw any INT i will be happy. If Painter plays QB for the team we play in the superbowl this year... well than happy can't describe the joy I will experience.

  14. i think we'll see less & less of manning in training camp in the coming years. he doesn't need to be making all those throws at his age

this whole situation may actually be a blessing

lol oh this made me laugh...

  15. As we have all seen, the Colts are having a problem with a back-up QB that produces. Regular season stats have provided an answer:

    Curtis Painter

    28 attempts

    8 completions

    0 TDs

    2 INT

3 Rushing attempts for 4 yards ( 0 rushing TDs)

    1 Fumble

    9.8 QB Rating

    Joseph Addai

    1 attempt

    1 completion

    1 TD

    0 INT

977 Rushing attempts for 4020 yards (38 rushing TDs)

    6 Fumbles

    158.3 QB Rating

    Must I say more....

Joseph Addai is by far a better choice to back up Manning than Painter is according to the stats. I say, LET ADDAI START AS QB!!!

  16. the reason the colts are smart in having vinateri as well as mcafee is you don't want to put all your eggs in one basket. i mean either one could be injured on a fluke roughing the kicker penalty or a player hitting them and then you are like the redskins or cowboys were that year where they kept trying to get a good kicker and ending up even releasing and signing the kicker from the opposing team.

Yeah,i see what you're saying but we have Vinatieri for 3 more years so we won't be in that position. But, while Vinatieri is a good clutch kicker, he is getting older and it would be nice to see McAfee be able to take the longer FGs if needed. McAfee seems to have the ability to do but needs in-game experience of course.

  17. He definitely should try a long ball, it would be nice to get him comfortable with the long ones just in cause. And, having that extra roster spot would help out a lot

  18. I want to see McAfee try place-kicking in a preseason game. He supposedly made a 75 yard FG at camp, but I want to see him actually try in a game. While there is no need to replace Vinatieri just yet, he is getting older, and it would be nice to give McAfee a shot to see how he does. He has the leg on him to make long attempts. Anyone else curious to see if McAfee could do it?

  19. I wasn't able to watch all of the games today, but I saw several kick-offs and almost all of them seemed to be touchbacks, rarely returns. What were your experiences with the new rule? I know there was a lot of talk about it in advance, but do now that you have seen some action, do you think it takes a lot away from the game?

    fred

While I dont like the amount of touchbacks because it takes away a certain element of Football. Plain and simple it will reduce the number of injuries to our players. Less Colt injuries = more winning. And, all of us would love another Colt Superbowl this year.

  20. From what I remember, when Coyer was hired, he distinctly said he was not aiming to change the entire defense, but he was just looking to make us a more aggressive defense playing in a base Tampa 2. In his first year, that was exactly what he did and our defense played pretty well. Last year, there was a dropoff, but I am blaming all the injuries for that one. This is his make or break year in my book.

That video of Bethea blitzing is awesome!

It's definitely fair to blame the injuries for last year, because what we were in our 6th/7th string for some positions? Yeah his first year was more aggressive but I think he still needs to step it up a notch. I think it would make a big difference if our LBs clip people coming off the line regularly and CB play within no more than a 3 yard cushion instead of 7 that they tend to. And I think we'd all like to see Bethea blitz a whole lot more

  21. When we do blitz it is effective. I remember last year when Pat Angerer got his first sack against Washington. We blitz so fast it's unreal to see. I wonder why we don't blitz all the time, because it really is that fast and effective. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IVyu2fJ4OTw Thats just one of them. You gotta go to NFL.com and look at some of the teams highlights. You'll see when the Colts blitz how fast it is.

Agreed we definitely need to blitz more. We have the speed and power to devastate opponent offenses.
