  1. It's funny that you guys actually think we were deep at receiver going into last night. First things first, I don't think Duron Carter's making this roster, I hate to break it to ya, but the hype on this guy in this forum is out of control. He'll get a lot of preseason reps with the backups, and if he's productive (big IF), he'll either be trade bait or a practice squad guy, that's about it. Griff Whalen is useless, will almost certainly be cut, and if not, he'll just be a practice squad player as well. Andre Johnson might still have some fumes in the tank, but I'd be surprised if he's on the team after this season to be honest. And oh yeah, Reggie Wayne's gone.

So we're left with TY Hilton and Donte Moncrief. The addition of Dorsett makes this a very dangerous trio. I don't see the problem with this pick, especially considering there are still 8 more.

Is it? Hilton and Dorsett are small and scrawny. Moncrief showed promise as #3, TY still hasn't proven in big time situation as THE goto #1. Just food for thought.

  2. What do you guys think? With defense coming along, could be very comparable, especially in the offensive skilled positions

3 capable WRs with possible 1000 yards each.

    Fitz vs Wayne

    Boldin vs Nicks

    Breaston vs Hilton

    RB

    Hightower, Edge vs Bradshaw, TRich

    TE

Could prove themselves as reliable red zone targets

    Food for thought I suppose

  3. I can't seem to fathom that Griggs will not orchestrate something  in order for Colts to land a pro-bowl caliber center this season after letting Satele go just like this.

    In Griggs we trust.

  4. We could still get Mack, but we'd have to well over pay to get him out from that transition tag

If we could, Mack would be an awesome addition at any cost (I think top centers are def. worth all the marbles in the bag).

  5. For all the Richardson haters... I don't get it. Last season as injured player he was extremely productive.

This season, you knew all teams were going to make him the focal point going into the games and naturally he wouldn't be as productive with no passing game.

Before you guys all start grading Grigg's GM ability, why not let this season fold out to see who got the better deal?

And this is coming from a guy who hates Bama/Saban.

  6. Andrew doesn't have to attend Stanford this summer to graduate like last year. Hes got a full off season, and the offense had a major make over / upgrade during FA/draft to say the LEAST.

Only downside might be the schedule being more challenging but are people really thinking he'll under perform?

I know it shouldn't be this simple but how is it not? He will be better.

  7. Please comment on this thread starting with "I give this year's draft (grade) because..." followed by your reason/logic. I'll start it off

    I give this year's draft B+ because....

    1. Thornton will start at RG from day 1
    2. I believe Holmes will either be our starting C or #2 C from day 1
    3. Werner will eventually beat out Walden for starting SAM LB to play alongside Mathis
    4. I believe McKinney will be cut and we will be left with a rotation of Franklin, Hughes, and Chapman at NT with Chapman starting
    5. Williams will be our return specialist and change of pace back from day 1
    6. Pep Hamilton uses a ton of TE and some of em have to block … I think Cunningham makes the roster and becomes 3rd TE on the team

I think we had a very below the radar draft .. NOTHING flashy about it … BUT it was a necessity … Our trenches are now solidified!

  8. We all know it's going to come down to either the #1 or #2 draft pick (although Alfred Morris should be well in the discussion.

While most of the experts/blogs/fans speculate why RG3 should get ROY, I'd like us to dice and slice the achievements of the 2 rookies.

    Andrew Luck

Most passing yards in a single game by a rookie quarterback: 433
Most passing yards by a rookie in a single season: 4,374
Most 300+ yards passing games by a rookie QB
Most wins by a #1 pick QB in his rookie season
Most game-winning drives by a rookie quarterback
Most fourth quarter comebacks by a rookie quarterback

    RG3

Two-time Offensive Rookie of the Month

Two-time NFL Offensive Player of the Week

Seven-time NFL Rookie of the Week

    2012 Pro Bowler

    Rookie passer rating record (102.4)

Lowest interception rate by a rookie in NFL history (1.3 percent)

  9. I have to say, I am really not a fan of BA. I give the guy all the credit in the world for leading this team this far but I really don't see our offense being sustainable. Heres why:

    1. There is no cohesion between run & pass. Run plays look exactly like run plays in this offense, and pass plays look like pass plays. There is no "running to set up play action" or "spreading them out to run". It is an extremely predictable offense, but not in a good way like the old Manning/Colts system.

    2. The system takes precedence over the talent, instead of vice versa. Frequently, this team is in 3 or 4 WR sets, when the talent would indicate 2 TE sets are more appropriate. The plays often require alot of time to develop and have 5 players in routes, when this offensive line would be better off on quick plays or blocking help. Even just some designed roll outs would make more sense with this QB than what we are doing.

    3. Arians is willing to let Luck fail when it comes to passes, yet he isn't letting the team learn other lessons. He mentioned on the radio that he doesn't trust them to run no huddle more because of the other rookies and that he would never allow Luck the amount of freedom that Manning developed. There are college teams that require their freshmen to run no huddle offenses the entire game, professionals aren't capable of that? He has one of the most intelligent QBs to come out of college, if you don't trust him, who would you trust.

    4. This offense doesn't seem to have any of the cutting edge features of modern offenses. It isn't fast, it doesn't have multiple play packages in 1 play, it doesn't use no huddle except when it has to. It doesn't take advantage of athletic mismatches with TE. In sum, in the middle of an offensive revolution, Arians is a bastion of the old way.

Contrast that to what is going on in Was. There the coaches have a system they have developed over decades, and are famous for. Yet when they looked at their team, and the expanding landscape of offenses they modified their system to fit their teams talent, not tried to make the talent fit in their system.

New England is another example. Every year, they change and tweak their offensive system to match the talent they have. Seems to be working out for them. I bet if you grabbed an offensive player from the Steelers of the last few years, they could tell you what Arians plays are named.

    Long story short:

The Colts were 1-7 in 1 possession games last year, this year they've flipped that. These 2 teams are only marginally different in actual ability, and at least from an offensive play calling perspective, I've seen nothing to say the new system is better than the old.

  10. Ok Griffin advocaters throwing all the stats out there. Let's talk stats...

    On accuracy and QB rating:

"Luck plays in a vertical offense while Griffin plays in a horizontal one. Luck's average pass attempt has traveled 10.2 yards past the line of scrimmage, the longest average pass distance in the league. Griffin has thrown only 14 percent of his passes 15-plus yards past the line of scrimmage, the lowest rate in the league. Luck has thrown only 11 percent of his passes at or behind the line of scrimmage, while Griffin is in an offense that has let him throw 44 passes at or behind the line, accounting for 23 percent of his attempts."

    Rushing:

Griffin has five fumbles on rushing plays this season and has only recovered one. Luck has yet to fumble on a running play this year. Despite only 18 true rushes, Luck has 10 first-down runs on scrambles, most in the league (Griffin and Vick each have nine). Seven of those 10 have come on third down; no other quarterback more than 4 scrambles for 1st downs on 3rd down this year. Over all, 12 of his 18 runs have gone for first downs, while Griffin has gained first downs on only 41 percent of his 61 runs

  11. well thats just silly.

when you are behind 2-3 TDs you have to throw it, which was the case after the 1 Q.

they saw that the RBs werent going anywhere w. horrid run protection from the colts, and pretty solid from the bears D.

besides, im glad they let andrew keep airing it after 3 INTs. if anyone got something out of this game,. its Andrew

  12. I would be terrified if that were my team.

Bad RBs, whom your holding out hope that others will get hurt.

Avg at best QB What's Cutlers ceiling? 4000/30 max?

Your 2nd WR can't stay healthy, or find the end zone. Your 3rd WR is questionable at best.

Your TE while solid, isn't gonna win you games.

I gotta ask, where did all of your $ go? What was your limit? Did you sell out on Calvin?!

my budget went on 2 franchise WRs.

I bank on upsides and free agency. We'll see how Fleener and Collie develops and I'll replace my flex bench slots for either or, and figure it out.

QB : I'd be scared. Cutler is playing behind a bad line and is injury prone. Luck is unproven but a solid backup for bye week at this point.

RB : Brown will be ok but he's an RB2 at best. Carter and Ballard will probably get a lot of his goal line carries and that will rob you of touchdowns. The only thing you can count on is him breaking off those miracle runs. The rest are backups that will see maybe 5-10 carries a game? eh...don't like it.

WR: Calvin Johnson - A+ but beware the madden curse! Andre Johnson, huge upside but he's injury prone. Meachem, hard to tell what his role will be like in SD, but is a decent WR3.

TE: Vernon Davis is a good pick, Clark will be interesting to watch for

    DEF: Texans D is great.

K : Crosby, Akers are both good

    My suggestions?

    1. See if you can trade Andre Johnson for an upgrade at QB or RB, maybe like Matthew Stafford or DeMarco Murray. Then see if you can grab Collie or another under rated WR to fill Johnson's spot.

    2. Drop Crosby and grab a 2nd defense and play the matchups week by week. Akers is going to be your best kicker every week. Wade Phillips' defense is notorious for failing in year 2. So I'd like to have a safety net just in case the Texans play a high flying offense.

Thanks for your suggestions, AJ80 maybe a questionable WR2 in my roster but I think upside for Donald Brown is greater than AJ80's downside. I think I'll wait for 2-3 regular season games to see what adjustments I should make.

    Thank you guys. Much appreciated.

  13. If Cutler has a breakout season like he is supposed to your team should be pretty solid, but your RBs are a little suspect. Why do you think David Wilson will beat out Bradshaw? Your WR are top notch and that should help your team succeed. You'll have to do some work to make the playoffs.

I'm not really sure why you have two kickers.

I figured since theres probably about 3-4 kickers that will consistently provide 12+ points every week. I could use it as a trade leverage along with one of my WR.
