  1. Thanks Andy, thanks Sean! You defiantly sparked an interesting conversation on the subject our the Colts receiving "corps" (correct spelling Andy). I agree with Doom, it is hard to evaluate or predict the outcome and production of the Colts' receivers. With a new OC in Bruce Ariens and a rookie QB in Andrew Luck, I'm afraid this complete make-over on the offense could result in almost any prediction.....we may finish 1st in the AFC South in rushing (ya, unlikely). What I do know we're missing in our receivers is size, strength and range. Without Kris Adams (who?), our 10 receivers currently on roster average in size 5'11" and 185 lbs.....wow, that is tiny in comparison to NFL standards. This leads me to believe that Fleener will post great numbers in 2012.

On a separate note, I heard in an interview that Luck could potential put up Cam Newton like numbers (including his rushing performance). I think it's a little extreme but go back at look at Newton's and Luck's combine results...very similar.

  2. This might be a bold prediction or just my high hopes for a backfield, but could the Colts become a "Running Back by Committee" attack? I like a lot of little things from each of Brown, Carter, and Ballard, but not a lot from just one. I think being committed to rotating them regularly will present great challenges against opposing defenses and coordinators. As for Evans, I believe he is a goner. There hasn't been much talk about the kid from Jacksonville, Deji Karim. He's a lightening-rod, could we not find a way to use him?

  3. Luck is a no-brainer in any Keeper league, but I wouldn't invest in him as your first QB off the board.....he is a solid #2 and probably ranks anywhere between 13-16th QB off the board in most leagues. The hype and history of the colts will have some people drafting him early, don't be fooled.....he's in tough this year. The organization made all their market moves in the defense. Protection will be our biggest challenge this year (predict 35+ sacks) which could mean an interception-learning season for Luck. Ariens' history of play-calling shows a hard-nose running attack (Brown = increase value), rather than unleashing a young quarterback's skills.

Don't undervalue Wayne because of his age and that the Manning chemistry is gone, you can expect most defenses to send pressure rather than double-cover receivers (Wayne) down field, creating the opportunities for Wayne as he had 3-5 years ago. Providing Wayne stays healthy, expect shiny 1's season (1,000 yard, 100 rec, 10 TDs).

Fleener should be valued as a first grade starting TE. Allen won't impact his development too much. Avery in the slot and on special team returns could be a sleeper if he stays healthy...after all, let's be realists here...our defense will allow for a lot more scoring because of the learning transition to a new defense, which means more return opportunities for DA.

  4. Valid points ML. To your QB question re a #2 sleeper in later rounds, I would have to say (be surprised) Fitzpatrick of the Bills. Simply because he has a lot more help around him (alluding to "Coltsfanforlife 12" comments). The Bills could have a big year on defense with the moves they made in Free Agency. Having Fred Jackson and Spiller in the backfield helps balance the pass and keeps opposing defenses honest. Fitzpatrick also has more threat and play in Stevie Johnson than what the Rams and Jets have. I would rank them as:

    1) Fitzpatrick

    2) Dalton

    3) Luck (avoiding being bias)

    4) Sanchaz

    5) Bradford

Dalton is a close second because of the emergence of Green and a solid D. As for the Colts...I truly believe Fleener will have a big year. I don't think Allen will steal much production from him, OC Bruce Ariens will use him as a flex HB or FB. Fleener has more versatility to line up as a slot. The NFL trend this year is double (maybe triple) TE sets...thanks to Jimmy Graham and that GRONK guy in NE. I am more questionable about how the running game will do in Ariens offence and tutor learning year for Luck.

  5. 2012 Stats for the Colts:

    Andrew Luck - 3,498 yards / 62.9 % / 25 TD / 17 INT / 402 rush yards / 3 rush TD

    Donald Brown - 1,005 yards / 4.1 avg. / 6 TD

    Vick Ballard - 334 yards / 5.5 avg. / 2 TD

    Delone Carter - 105 yards / 4.7 avg. / 1 TD

    Reggie Wayne - 91 rec / 998 yards / 10 TD

    Donnie Avery - 55 rec / 677 yards / 4 TD

    Coby Fleener - 54 rec / 502 yards / 6 TD

    T.Y. Hilton - 25 rec / 19.0 avg.

Austin Collie - 21 rec (inj)

    Pat Angerer - 188 tackles

    Kelvin Conner - 113 tackles

    Antoine Bethea - 99 tackles

    Dwight Freeney - 15 sacks

    Robert Mathis - 10 sacks

    Jerry Hughes - 7 sacks

    Drake Nevis - 4.5 sacks

    Tom Zibowski - 4 sacks

    Jerrod Powers - 6 INT

    Antoine Bethea - 5 INT

    Justin King - 2 INT

    T.Y. Hilton - 1 KR TD

Donnie Avery - 1 PR TD

  6. Whether it's Powers, Zibby, Bethea, (Jenkins unlikely), or someone else down in the depth, you can expect a big production year in Interceptions. The 3-4 pressure scheme is the catalyst to forcing interceptions, and let's not forget the division being a young QB group, Gabbert and Locker will combine for 30 maybe 40 interceptions.

Powers has always been more patient and has better judgement and ball skills.

  7. Our patience is going to be tested...Luck will be in tough his first couple seasons. Have faith, have patience, support him, after all front office is not doing a good job giving him support. Can we really build a team through this draft? We certainly have struck out in Free Agency.

  8. Providing the most recent position rankings of Mike Mayock, NT-Dontari Poe is suppose to fall to the 2nd round now. We need a Nose since we're transitioning to a 3-4 defence...the great thing about 3-4 is you can make do with avergae corners providing the pressure schemes...Freeney and Mathias as OLB = easy interceptions
