  1. What we should do in case Peyton is without a doubt healthy is trade the first pick and get a 1st round pick for the '13 and/or '14 draft. Then improve our team with the newly acquired picks. We can draft a very good qb in '13/'14 and have him learn from Manning. If Manning is healthy, we have a shot at another super bowl. That we have that chance is pretty much guaranteed. With Luck, we don't know. Maybe he'll turn out great. Maybe he'll be a bust (unlikely). But very probably he will become a good qb like Rivers, who will not be as good as Peyton is.

If Peyton isn't healthy, no question: Get Luck and say good bye to #18, as much as that would hurt.

  2. While I would like us to save a couple of roster spots and some cap money, I don't want McAfee to overdo it. If he is forced to kick some long field goals and he has to punt and do kickoff, I don't know how well his leg will hold up. Yeah, he may have done it in college, but the NFL game is different.

I don't think it would be a problem. Physically the reps you get on the field are not different from the reps you get in practice at all. It's just more pressure but there is no need to worry about him having to kick another 3 kicks a game. He is punting and doing the kick-offs already, isn't he?

As long as he can live with the pressure, he'll be pretty good. I don't think we should read too much into his 75-yarders, even though it's impressive. I bet a lot of guys that can't make it from the 40 in-game have gotten it through from the 70 in practice.

  3. Just as always, he is looking for an excuse so he doesn´t have to practice.. Not very professional! :cussing:

I´m pretty sure he will start the regular season. Rust or no rust - he is ten times better than any other qb we have. So as long as they don´t see a danger for his neck, he´ll play. And we still have about 3 weeks.

  4. thank you bayone!

"Manning didn’t react well to TV crews that saw a recent throwing and running session. My understanding is that the Earth is still spinning, however. I understand being private, but everything and everyone cannot always be controlled. Did I miss the catastrophic outcome?"

I don't quite understand the situation here, what does that mean?

  5. from my experience as a kicker, i don't think you can give it quite enough hangtime to actually be there at the same time as the ball arrives. but than again it will probably be enough to have the coverage at the twenty when the return guy gets the ball in order to get a good field position for your D.

  6. By the way, Brent, on kickoffs, there's no way a kicker can kick it high and arcing and have it bounce. The receiving team puts two guys back there to field kicks, so the chance of a high kick bouncing is virtually nil.

From what i understand he means that the coverage guys will "bounce" around the return guy, not the ball.

I know there were lots of injuries on kick-off returns, but so were there injuries during the usual plays. Football is a dangerous sport! No one asks kick-boxers to not aim at certain bodyparts just so the sport is less dangerous.

  7. I wasn't able to watch all of the games today, but I saw several kick-offs and almost all of them seemed to be touchbacks, rarely returns. What were your experiences with the new rule? I know there was a lot of talk about it in advance, but do now that you have seen some action, do you think it takes a lot away from the game?
