  1.

A team can be fined if it is found to be knowingly altering the weight of the football.

The NFL's game operations manual states: "Once the balls have left the locker room, no one, including players, equipment managers, ball boys, and coaches, is allowed to alter the footballs in any way. If any individual alters the footballs, or if a non-approved ball is used in the game, the person responsible and, if appropriate, the head coach or other club personnel will be subject to discipline, including but not limited to, a fine of $25,000."

"including but not limited to" is the interesting part.  That means it is not limited to a fine.

  2. I was hoping the new option for postseason tickets would help sales this year.  In the past, we had to pay for two games in advance as season ticket holders.  That is pretty rough when the playoff tickets cost more than 70% of the cost of season tickets.  Now that we have a pay as you go option, it is much easier to deal with.  Those of us that chose that option got charged for only the first game last week.

  3. I think a big issue was also requiring Season Ticket Holders to buy tickets to 2 games, 1 that probably will never be played.  My wife and I have 4 tickets and I know it put a big dent in our account to have to purchase 8 tix.  Especially since the AFC Championship game tix were even more than the wildcard round.

I have no doubt it will sell out one way or another.

I think this is the biggest problem.  Last year I only purchased one of my two tickets since it was doubtful we would host a game.

I did buy both this year, but almost passed on the purchase due being forced to pay a ton of money for an AFC Championship game we are not likely to host.  The threat of a blackout will not in any way influence my decision in the future to purchase playoff tickets.  In fact, if I don't feel it makes sense financially to make the postseason purchase at some point in the future and it gets blacked out, it definitely could influence my decision on whether or not to continue purchasing season tickets.

  4. The option to purchase part of your seats wasn't given.  I went online to pay and I thought I would be able to choose just one seat but I couldn't.  I probably could have called and asked about it but I waited until the last minute before I even decided to buy them.

I did actually stop by the complex on 56th street to make my payment last year.  Maybe that had something to do with it.

  5. I think many season ticket holders backed out of buying playoff tickets and that's why there were so many left.  I waited until the last day to pay for mine.  The playoff ticket purchase is so restrictive for season ticket holders.  I have 3 seats and I only wanted to purchase 1 seat for the playoffs but they make you buy all of them.

Unless they changed it this year, you don't have to buy all of your seats for the postseason.  You just have to buy both games for the tickets you choose to purchase.  Since it was doubtful we would have a home playoff game last year, I only purchased one of my two tickets for the postseason.  I did purchase both of them this year.

  6. They cost twice as much too, that might be the biggest reason people don't get them. They may feel they have blown enough money on the regular season.

I think that can be a big factor.  I did buy postseason tickets, but I gave it a lot of thought before pulling the trigger.  My 2 tickets cost $99 each for the regular season.  The postseason bill was $660.  A lot of people around me are not buying them.  I think that can also factor into the decision for some people.  Knowing that the normal people will not be around you and you could end up stuck around a bunch of opposing fans can lessen the appeal for some people.

  7. My wife took care of me. She has a very busy schedule the next month and said she was fine watching any possible playoff games at home (tailgating plus game equals an all day event). Just got done paying for one of my seats and gave up the other one for any playoff games.

  8. I guess it's all about the money grab as usual. In the past it wasn't as big of an issue because we always in position to win the division so we were all but guaranteed a home game.

True, and if we were in that position this year I might be able to find someone to take a chance on us hosting two games and split the cost. They could have one game and I would take the other. However, with us being a likely wild card and needing an unusual set of circumstances to even host one game, it would be tough to get someone to share the cost this year. That is why the deadline being within 72 hours of the Houston game is frustrating for me. A few more days and it would either be clear we could only potentially host one game, or it would open up the possibility for me to make a deal with another Colts fan to split the cost of postseason tickets. I do realize that if Houston loses to NE and we beat the Titans, our fate is in our own hands at that point. I am just not too optimistic on being able to sell someone on the idea of us sweeping the Texans this year to win the division. It is not that I don't think it is possible. It is just that I would have to find someone willing to make that leap of faith since I would not be refunding their money until mid-February if the game did not happen. If we had a few more days to pay and we beat the Texans on the 16th, it becomes much easier to sell this deal to someone.

Believe me, I am not someone who takes missing a game lightly. This is my 6th year as a season ticket holder. During that time, I have only missed 2 regular season games due to being out of state visiting family for holidays. The only postseason game I missed during that time was due to being unemployed at the time. If it was feasible for me to pay the full amount right now, I would.

  9. Its fine. Not fun spending that amount of jack around Christmas but it makes the season ticket bill in March a heckuva lot more tolerable.

It is the timing for me. I have a large expense in December that makes tickets for two playoff games unreasonable for me. If it was one game, I could probably pull it off. In March, with normal other expenses, I will be ready for the season ticket invoice. That is why I am frustrated that a deadline a few days later could make the difference between being able to purchase postseason tickets or not.

  10. The problem is they make you pay for both the divisional game and the AFCCG up front and then they credit the money back to your STH account for whatever games are not played.

This is very frustrating. I just cannot justify paying out $630 right now for the two games. I could handle the cost for one game. What adds to the frustration is that 72 hours after the deadline it will not even be possible for us to host more than one game if Houston beats NE and us. As good as Houston is, we have to be happy if we can split these two games with them. A split guarantees we can only make the playoffs as a wild card.

  11. Sunday is going to be my first trip to LOS, I'm coming from Jersey. I'll be in section 453 row 1. Even though it's been a rough season I am still stoked to see them play at home.

Do the bars around the stadium open early on gamedays? Any suggestions on where I should go to get some drinks before the game?

Just buy some beer the night before and wander through the Blue Crew lot at the SE corner of South & Pennsylvania. You will find plenty of new friends in our lot to enjoy a few drinks with. AND, it will be cheaper that way.

  12. Not only going to the game, but getting the experience started early Saturday evening with the Blue Crew Bar Crawl. Will be packing up the tailgaiting gear early Saturday afternoon before checking into the hotel and hitting at least five local establishments on Saturday night. Then, it will be tailgaiting at 8:00 a.m. Sunday morning before heading into LOS to watch the first Colts victory of the year.

  13. The primary reaction will probably be silence if things don't go well. I would expect a few boos initially, but then the stadium will probably just get dead. That will stink if it happens, but the next game is what concerns me more. It is bad enough sitting in silence at a game, but it is even worse if you are at a game with the visiting fans making all of the noise.
