  1. We may have a rough couple of years ahead of us, but I'm glad all of these changes are being made. With new, young talent coming in, a good possibility of high draft picks for the next couple of years and now finally dipping into FA every now and then, I'm confident we will have a winning football team again in the next couple of years.

No more are the days where our offense was the only phase we could depend on. I'm looking forward to that big, intimidating, Ravens-like defense. It's going to be great to have a defense that can finally stop the run and a secondary QBs actually want to avoid (the corners are sure to be addressed). It's going to be great not having McAfee the only player we can count on to tackle on returns.

For a long time, I felt the Colts front offices were rewarding players with playing time and contracts despite the lack of production on the field. I felt they knew there was better talent out there, but were too worried about hurting people's feelings and didn't want to be seen as the 'bad guys'. They always used the "we build from within" philosophy which really frustrated me at times. I have a feeling the new front office won't keep players around anymore just because they feel like members of the family.

Again, it's going to take time get back to our winning ways, but I'm going to support them in the process. In the meantime, I know a lot of us will be rooting for Manning and some of our other guys that were let go this past week. It will be fun to have at least 1 new team to follow and root for.

Give our team some time, it might be painful for a while, but we'll be back!

It's an exciting time to be a Colts fan!

  2. I LOVE both, but I'm more of a Manning fan than a Colts fan. Ideally, I'd like to see Peyton playing, mentoring Luck as long as everyone involved is happy and healthy. I'm torn though, because I would also like to see Peyton win at least 1 more SB before the end of his career. I really don't see him going anywhere, but if Peyton were to go to another team, the team would have to be willing to adopt the way Peyton runs an offense. He is not going to go somewhere where he isn't able to take his offensive mentality with him. Is there a team that seems to have every piece out there but a QB AND would be able to adopt and perfect a whole new offense in 1 or 2 years? I don't know, but if there is, I wouldn't be heartbroken to see it happen. I think Peyton deserves to win another SB in whatever way he is able to obtain it. It is the front offices' fault for building a team souly (sp?) around Peyton and not building a more well-rounded team. If Peyton's healthy for the next couple of years, is that enough time to rebuild a Colts team that compliments Peyton and doesn't depend on him?...I'm not sure. If not, I'd like to see Peyton go to another team and see the Colts rebuild a team that compliments, doesn't depend on Luck. (This is where we actually address the defense for once). I feel this situation would be a win win. Peyton may have a few great years left, just enough time to win a SB with another team that's ready for him and it would give the Colts the opportunity to rebuild a team over the next few years and be SB ready by the time Peyton retires. Good for Peyton in the now, good for the Colts in the future.

  3. If our rush D would seem to pick up their game in the regular season, I don't think we would be having this conversation right now, but they don't!!! The Colts are consistently ranked one of the last, if not THE last in rushing defense year after year and that's in the regular season!!!! Think back to last year's opener in Houston...Manning threw for 400+ yards, 3TDs and zero interceptions. That amazing performance yielded a big 'L' for the team...

A post-game write-up had this to say..."The Colts defense looked like the Indy defense of the 2006 regular season. Yes, the same defense that ranked dead last in run defense and allowed every team they played against to rush for over 100 yards. Texans 2nd year Running Back Arian Foster put on a running clinic against the Colts defense. Foster totaled 231 yards rushing on 33 attempts and 3 touchdowns, leading him to the second best opening game for a running back in NFL history, as well as the franchise record for most rushing yards in a single game. Allowing a single running back to rush for over 200 yards is a sign of a true problem for the Colts.

No one on the defensive side of the ball seemed to be able to make a solid tackle. It seemed as though on every play, at least three or four defenders were needed to tackle one Texan player. The lack of effective tackles, and the inability of the defensive linemen to get off of their blocks, were the two big reasons why Foster had such a huge day rushing."

That was against a 100% healthy defense...We can NEVER stop the run and I don't know how long it's going to take a lot of fans and management to realize it doesn't change from year to year...It is consistently a problem!

One may say, well we won a championship, didn't we...Yes we did! Why?!...Is it that the offense played so much better in the 2006 post-season than they did in the regular season? No! The defense stepped up their game, going from last in rushing D to 1st. Take a look at the 2006 DVD, it was no new players, no new plays, just Colts veterans who should be tackling well consistently deciding to pick it up in the post-season, actually wrapping their arms around a rushers legs and not letting go. You know what that means to me?...A lack of heart and desire from many veterans to play well consistently during the regular season and most playoff appearances (the exception being the 2006 playoffs mentioned). I hope this 'small and fast' game-plan will change soon b/c our guys are consistently ran over...Our rush D in the regular season is a carbon copy of what you saw tonight. Before ppl jump down my throat, go back, watch our old footage and watch those healthy veteran leaders not wrap-up. I understand we can't be #1 in every category and we don't need to be, but we absolutely can't be last in rushing D...Our D on the field means the clock is running down and our O is not on the field. Defense wins championships and that's why we had the outcome we did in 2006...Defensive guys going back to the basics.

  4. I wasn't being mean. I was just saying we've had tons of topics on this in the past couple days, and one was still on the first page. I understand if it's not on the first page, but it's always a good idea to skim recent topics before starting a new one. Thats why I put the :highfive: in my post.

Gotcha...we're cool. I'll try to look better next time. :highfive:

  5. He clearly doesn't have bricks for hands with some of the spectacular catches he pulls out sometimes.

Personally I think the problem might possibly be overthinking the easy catches rather than acting on instinct. When you're leaping to make a one-handed catch, you're not really thinking about your catching form, you're just trying to get the ball any way you can.

I agree...I think he overthinks sometimes. It's frusterating, but you win some, you lose some.

  6. people around here do have some strong opinions so you do have to be on your toes and know what your talking about

I've noticed and think it's great that people have their own strong opinions. But a lot of times people are really mean to those who have different opinions. (Not saying that happend in my case.) Just thought I would mention it...People can be downright mean on this forum and I've only been on here for a couple of days.

Ok...back to topic. Just checked him out and from what I can see I like him. Fast and it looks like he's really able to see what's ahead of him and plans for it. (Only saw 1 highlight video though)

  7. I love talking Colts football, but the one thing I don't like that I've noticed in the few days I've been a member is that if anybody does the slightest thing wrong, or somebody throws out the 'wrong' opinion, some people jump all over them. I've notice that you can't open your mouth without somebody jumping all over your case.

  8. I remember hearing about a rookie (UDFA I believe) who is expected to take kickoff returns this year and I wanted to YouTube him and see what he's got. If we could start from anywhere but the 20 every once in a while that would be nice!!!!! Can't for the life of me think of who it is. Help please :thanks:

  9. I LIKE HIS SIZE AND THE WAY HE RUNS THE STRETCH PLAYS I THINK JOSEPH ADDAI DOES TOO MUCH DANCING AND IS NOT PHYSICAL LIKE EDGERIN JAMES WAS AND DOES NOT HIT THE HOLE UNLESS ITS A GAPING ONE BUT DELONTE CARTER HAS THE SIZE AND RUNNING STYLE WE NEED 5'10 225 AND IS A DOWN HILL RUNNER AND A SOLID 40 TIME TOO....MIGHT BE THE LEGERRET BLOUNT OF THE DRAFT

I love Addai for all the things he does for our offense that other RBs don't do near as well, but I do agree he tends to dance around a lot. He's not the downhill runner like James or even Rhodes. Addai definitely deserves the starting spot but I'm not a fan of the rushing aspect of his game...Even with the rare open hole.

  10. I would like to see a new coach. Nothing personal to Mr. Caldwell, but he is not the right man for the job. since Peyton only has a short window left we need someone to get us to the Super Bowl and win.

I like it but it won't happen...

  11. I hope it's only a 1 game suspension, but Pat wasn't driving...that makes a huge difference. A DUI is handled much more seriously than public intoxication.

We REALLY need him on the field, but I don't see the Colts not arranging some sort of punishment...I pretty much think they have to in some way...

  12. This quote comes from a write-up by Colts_Insider 1 hour before signing..."Still, despite declining skills, his stats the last two years are better than any other DT currently on the Colts roster."

Again...Love these touches we're finally making in FA...Big names?...No, but they give us experience and depth.

  13. From what I've read, it sounds like he hasn't been as much of a factor the past few years, but I do believe it's an upgrade...especially if he doesn't have to be in every down!...I like the idea of being able to rotate and our whole season not ruined if one guy goes out b/c of injury. Maybe a different team is what this guy needs to play to the caliber he has in the past (We can hope). With small upgrades here and there on the defensive side of the ball (like the ones made yesterday and today), we can become that defense that can sustain the lead...what our team's philosophy seems to be. It will be really interesting to see how much better we are able to stop the run with the moves that've been made lately. I believe these moves will get the D off the field faster and get Peyton on the field more. All 3 guys we've pick up seem to really target the rusher. I like these small, low-risk pick-ups!
