He did cut his 4th round pick (Banner) last year after training camp. Bringing in 3 more DE's this year tells me Ballard wasn't satisfied with what he had after Simon and Sheard. Yes, I think Basham could end up being the odd man out with the group of guys Ballard just brought in.

Banner was high risk high reward. He recognized that Banner was not going to reach his potential from his physical tools and cut him. Basham a higher floor pick than Banner. I do not think you can compare the to.

The defense will probably feature more 4-2-5 looks than the standard 4-3 base. So, no, Simon won't be playing SAM (he'll be playing RDE) and Tyquan would beat out Basham on one of those end spots. Tyquan, right now, is a better DE than Basham is. With the additions of Turay, Lewis, and Autry, Basham might not even make the top 53.

Basham was out of position last year. You think ballard would cut a 3rd round pick HE TOOK, most likely knowing the future of a 4-3?

  3. 1,1 Tremaine Edmunds - I hope all the colts buzz on roquan is a smoke screen in case they trade back. Ballard wants big and athletic. This is his guy. I think the depth at MIKE is not as strong as the depth in the outside linebackers.

2.1 Billy Price - If any of the top tier guards or tackles fall then you take them. Kolton Miller is the only player that if he were to fall I would still want price.

2.2 Lorenzo Carter - If any of the backers like rashaan evans or LVE fall then they are the pick. I like Carter as an outside linebacker. His size and athletic ability helps in coverage and we know he can rush the passer. I also like Malik Jefferson

2.3- Any of the big lanky corners. I am fine with most of them but my favorite would have to be isiah oliver. A more realistic option here is carlton davis.

3.1-  If there is any big faller here then I am fine with any lineman linebacker secondary or o'lineman being the pick if ballard thinks the value is extremely high. If no one falls then  I really like rashad penny he might be my favorite back in the draft. I am on the boat that a running back is not a necessity in this draft. I just like penny that much.

For the rest of the draft take best player available.

At the end of the  night I would be happy with 1 edge 1 interior lineman 1 guard maybe 1 tackle 1 corner 2-3 linebackers 1 running back or wide receiver

  4. I would be ecstatic if we got this haul. I do not think the trade is unrealistic, assuming there is still a qb at 6.

Wynn and Miller at their respective picks is a bit of a stretch I feel like but if they fall then that is great for us. I like the Callaway pick, similar to tyreek hill when CB was in KC. Sweat is a FREAK athlete and if he pans out would be a great value. Overall nice mock!!

  5. This will not include any trades. I do support another trade down if the value is there. Here is my picks and thought process.

    1- Nelson

Even if Barkley is there I do not think I would want him. I go back and forth between Nelson and Chubb, I think Nelson is more likely to be here. I do think Edmunds and Roquan are in play more so than people think. I like the second round of interior O-Line but Nelson\Slaughson\Mewhort provides good competition and protection from injury at guard.

    2.1-LVE

I love this guy. With this pick I think we should target a guy who fell out of the first If he is here then why not? He is an immediate upgrade and can be our MIKE for the next 10 years.

    2.2-Taven Bryan

If Mo Hurst is here and we are confident in his health I would love him here. However, I do not see him falling this far. Definitely more athletic than hankins and can get after the QB. He is not slow with a 4.89 at 300 pounds so he checks that box for the new regime. I cannot be comfortable with Al Woods and Henry Anderson at DT so this is one of many needs as well.

    2.3 Ronald Jones

This is a bit of a stretch that he falls here but I love the kid. He is a monster and would complement mack nicely. I know this class is deep and viable options could be had in the 3rd/4th but I really like the value in jones in the middle of the 2nd.

    3.1- Martinas Rankin

While not a no question starter day 1 I feel more comfortable at RT with Haeg and Rankin competing while Good slides to guard depth.

    4.1-Jerome Baker/Dorian O'Daniel

Either one that is here I would be happy with. Both are athletic LBs who can cover better than they can stop the run which complements LVE and Morrison if he is the outer outside backer. Fits the athletic fast mold that the new regime wants on defense.

    5.1- Duke Dawson

A lot of people want to address corner before here but I think Hairston can play on the outside in the mainly zone scheme. Him, Wilson and Desir is not a horrible core. Dawson completely shut down Christian Kirk this year and I like his potential with good safety help as his speed is not the best.

    6.1 BPA (Edge)

7.1 BPA (WR) Hoping we sign Meredith

    Would love some thoughts!

Trade back with Bills. Get 12 and 22. Draft Davenport(with Landry, Connor Williams and Derwin James still on the board) and Guice(with Vander Esch, Jaire Alexander, McGlinchey... still on the board) with the picks. The trade is not bad, although I would personally be demanding their 2019 first rather than no. 22. I don't like the picks.

I too would rather next years first, hoping they suck and we can get a top tier defensive lineman.

Well that’s your opinion, but Ballard stated that he felt comfortable at 6 that they could still get a premium player, and that it’d take a really enticing offer for him to trade back from 6. No offense, but it’s not about what you think, but about what Ballard says. And he has proven that he’s a man of his word.

I am thinking CB saying this was somewhat true, however he wants and needs depth through the draft. Him saying he wants to stay at 6 will just drive the price up for Bills, Cards, Phins.

Sirius XM;s NFL Radio just had a guy from New York Post that follows the Giants and he speculates, just as I said earlier, that if Barkley goes to the Browns, it's most likely the Giants will take Chubb.  He mentioned the possibility of Nelson, but dismissed that due to the draft being reasonably deep in the interior OL, saying they could address the OL in the second or third round to get a viable option, whereas in his mind, there is nothing comparable to Chubb to be had in the later rounds.

Ergo, the chatter I am hearing is seeming to be united in thinking that it goes Barkley - Chubb or Chubb - Barkely, one two.  If this occurs, the Colts best scenario is hoping to trade back to somebody wanting a particular QB, and then still getting Nelson.  Problem with that is that if Nelson is there at number five, there's a very real chance that Denver takes him to solidify their OL.  I guess that's not all bad, though, as there are still a couple of stellar LB prospects to be had.

Dream scenario if Barkley - Chubb go one two, Browns get antsy scared that the Colts will trade the pick to somebody else that would take the QB the Browns want, so they instead give up one of their two 2nd rounders to the Colts to swap 4th for 3rd spot, so the Browns are guaranteed to get the QB they want.  Then, either the Broncos or NYJ get overly antsy, so on of them then trades up to swap either pick 5 or 6 for 4.

Could you imagine, Colts swap 3 for 4 for one of Browns' 2nd rounders, then Colts swap 4th for 5th for Bronco's 2nd either this year or next year, then Colts do it again, swapping 5th for NYJ's 6th (fearing the Miami will trade with the Colts and take the QB that the Jets still covet) for another second rounder.  Hence, Colts ultimately move from 3rd to 6th and get three second rounders in return from QB obsessed teams, and then the Colts still get Quenton Nelson at OG.  Wishing!

Ballard would be the GM of the century
