  1. Every team is trying to find mid level talent nowadays. The obvious Tier 1 signings are obvious, but once the dust settles its the next group of guys that are often the meat of the team where your scouts and player personnel guys are getting their checks.

I can see the approach and I'm fine with it s long as he's hitting on guys, but you'd better believe all 32 teams are playing their own versions of Moneyball to unearth those Tier 2/3 difference makers. It's not unknown territory at this point about trying to find those mid level difference makers for value.

I'd like to see Lovie Smith coaching in the NFL again. He's a player's coach and he's not too happy coaching college football right now. He took the Bears to the Super Bowl (against the Colts) and was fired with a winning record (stupid move by the Bears). He was never given a chance in Tampa.

He was canned because he could manage the offensive side of the football if his life depended on it. Hard pass.

And now a report that his agent told him he was making the biggest mistake of his life, by backing out of the Colts job. What a little DB.

I'm sure his agent advised against it, but how would anyone know this? I'm sure the agent wouldn't say anything that's gonna bring more negative heat down on Mcdummy.

Damage control. Everyone knows he was supposed to be the target. Meanwhile all the other candidates they had interest in like Shurmur, Nagy, Wilks, and Vrabel are gone. This isn't a good spot for the team.

  5. Mentioning Cutler as the fall for Mcdaniels, is well and all, but NOBODY seemed to like that guy in Denver. I don't believe you just stop becoming azzhole if you are one, which seemed like Mcdaniels bigger issue than anything X's and O's or personnel related. The time you change is between 20 & 30, not 30 & 40.  If he comes here, I hope to God it was just a chemical imbalance in Denver.

Has he interviewed with anybody ? I'm just going off suppossed insiders. Bears job comes with the stipulation Fangio stays on as DC .

It looks like they are angling for Fangio to stay they just denied the Bengals a request to interview Vic, but I haven't seen any stipulation that he must stay.  Nagy was rumored to be bringing in his own defensive coordinator Mike Pettine and they're interviewing him, so they're open to someone else if their socks get blown off in the interview I guess. Right now it looks like they're looking for a QB and offensive guru.

I don't think Toub is yet to interview with anyone yet, but that'll be coming soon since the Chiefs choked yesterday.

Toub is really high on the Bears list too, may be one or two .

Where did you see this? I haven't seen that they interviewed him. They've been going after mostly offensive guys and QB whisperer types for head coach. Mcdaniels, Defilippo, Nagy, have interviewed and I think they have Shurmur scheduled. I haven't seen Toub scheduled and their Steve Wilks interview got cancelled.

  8. Word in KC is that Andy Reid was calling the plays in the 2nd.

Further, Reid admitted to calling plays by saying "all the good plays were called by Nagy and all the bad plays were called by me" I don't know if he's trying to make sure Nagy gets a job or what, but at the very least it makes Reid look like a goof one way or the other if he was meddling in the calls.

I think the Bears could a pretty good job because Trubisky is an up and coming QB. As far as the Colts job nobody knows whats going to happen with Luck including Luck himself. IMHO

I think Bears end up with Nagy if this is true. He seems to want to work with them and Chi have some nice young pieces with their RBs.

McDaniels will most likely be ours most likely. He won't have to teach a raw kid how to play he can just come in and start installing with one of the best.

Each job would be a promotion for both. Nagy could still call the plays like he's doing in KC.  I read where McDaniel's interview went "very well".

They're already Coordinators. They can't move laterally you have to promote them if you're hiring them. KC and more importantly Toub with have to agree to this move, since its obviously a fake promotion.
