  1. If Mortenson at ESPN is correct and Luck has to have second surgery and possibly miss another year, what do you do if your the Colts? Do you draft quarterback in this year’s draft? If so do you draft one early?

Since Colts had worst offensive line in the league and Jacoby was sacked and hit more then any other quarterback, coupled with the bearings Luck took past three years, what can Colts do with personnel to fix the dang O-Line?

    Also Josh McDaniels sucks

You realize we have Castonzo/Mewhort/Kelly/Norwell/Okorafor on the OL?

If that's not formidable enough for you, you're looking for too much

Are you Daft? Do you even watch Football? Mewhort out all season and he missed significant time previous year. Love the guy but he likely is physically done with recurring knee issues.we don’t yet have Norwell or rookie Okorfor. Franchise QB out entire season, he has missed other season due to lacerated kidney. Jacoby repeatedly sacked this year. What is our offensive line ranked this year or last year?  Good God man

If we as fans have learned anything....and I mean ANYTHING...we have learned that there will be multiple injuries every year on the offensive line......Look at the C position alone this year, We started with Ryan Kelly, then Deshawn Bond and finished with the street walker Mike Person....we need multiple FA-OL AND draft at least 1 in the mid rounds.....5 solid starters and 2-3 reliable versatile back ups.........IF everyone stayed healthy this year we would have had a decent line with 4 of 5 good starters, but we were one guy short of a solid 5 and suffered 3 injuries leaving us to finish with 1-2 good guys and 3 street walkers (essentially) We need talent AND depth on the O-line.....I don't want to use our 1st or 2nd rounder on O-line we have too many other needs at talent positions for that, so I want to see those players acquired in FA....that's my perfect world scenario

I do agree with you about injuries and need for suitable back ups, however our starters on O-Line pedestrian at best

  4. Crap. I don’t understand how anyone who has watched Colts formpast 4 years can not grasp that offensive line and protecting the quarterback paramount.  One free agent and one rookie draft pick?  A running back when your franchise quarterback and his backup get smashed and pummeled every Sunday?

You coukd have Walter Payton and Barry Sanders but behind this line they will look average. This is a QB driven league and Colts can not keep their QB upright.

Common Sense is lost with Joe Fan

    Position Strength

    QB

    DL

    Secondary

QB obviously depends on Luck's health, but the important thing here is we finally have a capable backup. DL continues to be a strength as hankins woods anderson and hunt showed great ability to hold the LOS and majority improved our run defense. Our secondary really improved when it came to take aways from the previous year and if we resign melvin and desir along with wilson, hairston, hooker coming back, and geathers, we'd have a very good secondary.

    Can Improve

    Pass Catchers

    RB

    Pass Rush

Luck needs more then just better oline play, he needs more weapons. Hilton is great, but rogers moncrief and doyle are not enough to take pressure off of him. I do think we need to draft a WR in the first three rounds. Maybe also try to get paul richardson or taylor Gabriel. I also don't have a problem with giving moncrief a one year prove it deal. RB is actually interesting because we can either draft Barkley, make mack the workhorse, or sign a RB like Dion Lewis to pair with mack. Personally I do like Barkley, he reminds me of a bigger MJD with his massive thighs along with speed and power, but I also am a big fan of Qunton Nelson. G is a big need, but if we can sign a guy like norwell then G isn't that major of a need and Barkley is possible. I honestly don't think our pass rush is bad. Simon and Sheard played great for us. Yes the sack numbers don't tell the story, but sheard I believe led the league in QB hits which tells me we had no problem creating pressure just finishing. I also think Basham was getting better towards the end of the season. We all knew he was going to be a project, but I think there is potential if we continue to work with him. Also Mingo had his moments as well and is a very good depth/ST player. Could we get better? Of course, but I don't think its a major need as some might think.

    Needs to Improve

    OL

    ILB

As I mentioned before, I think G is the biggest weakness on the team next to RT. I think we need to understand the situation with mewhort first before we try to replace him. Imo, he is our best olineman when healthy which is the problem he can't stay healthy. I do want to try to resign mewhort, but I just don't know if ballard wants to resign a guy that has so much ability, but can't stay on the field. As for RT, there really aren't a lot of good tackles in FA so I would try to get Orlando Brown in the second round or maybe trade down for Mcglinchey. ILB I would love to get Malik Jefferson in the second. Reminds me a lot of Deion Jones. I think Morrison is a good downhill run stuffer, but he doesn't play with any discipline and over reads plays which puts him out of position.

For ballard, I really think he needs to focus on improving our offense. He spent last offseason rebuilding the defense and I think we've played good defense this year, but were held back by our offense. We need to help luck plain and simple rather that is getting him a RB to take pressure off of him or getting him more weapons other then Hilton. Yes oline is a priority, but we need to stop thinking luck can make anyone great and actually get him players that can contribute rather or not hes behind center.I love what ballard said about how he doesn't want this to be all about luck. he doesn't want this team to rely on one player which is the correct focus this team needs. We can't expect to be a good team only because of luck. We need more good players instead of relying on one great one.

    Great post and spot on

    Oh, the irony.....

Why would you make this post after last night?

In case you weren't watching,   last night was the best the O-line looked all season.     Both the pass protectin and the run blocking were dramatically improved.     I'm sorry you didn't notice that.     Even Gruden was very complimentary of the line play.

You're a new poster.     Welcome to the website.     Hope you enjoy it.      But this post?     It's a headscratcher.

New Colts fan, how does the crow taste? I’m not a new poster and have been on this forum for years- the offensive line is atrocious and you defending them zeros out all credibility. #clueless

  7. My brothers I hate to say I told you so but.,,,, Last spring me and a few other me,bees were clamoring for offensive line picks early in the draft. Captain Obvious from Q95 fame could see Mewhort was going to have chronic knee issues, Joe Haeg lacked the horsepower, and Castonzo inconsistent. Franchise player 12  chronically hurt due in part to poor offensive line.  So many holes to fill and games won or lost in the trenches. Colts have to focus on the offensive line next year or 12 will be out again.  I want some mean and nasty dudes on that O-Line. Bad breath, spitting fire raw meat eating lineman

  8. Zach Banner is charasmatic and seems like a good dude. Because of this and his freakish size, many of us rooted for him and hoped he could get weight down and be stud right tackle.  He may be on practice squad and eventually make an NFL roster but  NFL requires speed and athleticism,  Banner is limited. Hopefully our line continues to improve as I'm tired of seeing Luck in street clothes.  I suspect Colts will be drafting O-Line early again next year

  9. Haeg is a good back up tackle. He is not starter caliber at tackle and certainly not guard. He is too puny. Swenke will be starting right guard, Haeg back up tackle. If Fat man from Mars Hill ( D Good) doesn't up his game, he might not make the roster. Ballard has no connection to him unlike the scrub Grigson so his spot on team not guaranteed. Colts have lots of new faces and few spots on team are locked down

Obviously I'm not rooting against him, but this one feels like a bit of a reach.

I concur. He has had injuries and all that weight playing a collision sport....in addition to being slow and ineffective in space, I fear he will be chronically injured. Sadly I bet in 3 years he is not even in the league. I hope I'm wrong as we need o-line depth, Quality depth

This guy looks so funny on the field. I just watched that Youtube video of USC vs. Washington and all I can say is that he puts a lot of effort, but he's way too slow because of his size. When he gets his hands on the opponent he does well, both in run and pass blocking, but when he misses a block or when a fast player gets around him he looks ridiculous.

I hope Philbin can do something with him, make him lose more weight first of all, otherwise it's a wasted pick.

Seems like a good dude with heart but he is too big and slow. Wasted pick. We need to solidify the offensive line but there were better choices in round 4. This is the only head scratching pick,of the draft. Solid job by Ballard but round 4 on an overweight guy who can work in space to protect the franchise quarterback?
