  1. I have been disappointed with Tom Zibkowski's play as well. He does not seem to have either the speed or read and react to be a difference maker. Personally I felt the Lefedge made more plays at that postion last year.

  2. By Blue Sunday as referenced in article 2 by 18 to 88

The Colts are doing everything they can to reassure you without actually saying the words, all you have to do is look at what they are doing on offense.

In past preseasons for whatever reason the offensive line has been a shamble when Manning leaves the game.

This preseason has been completely different. The offensive line has been the best unit on the team, both 1st and 2nd strings.

This last game I think I counted eight of the first nine passing plays were either a screen, swing pass or dump off. And most of them looked like that was the called play - not that every downfield reciever was covered.

several reasons this might be going on. It could be because of the revolving door at WR. It could be simple incompetence by the non-Manning QBs in the game. It could be that they are just trying to stay as vanilla as possible.

Or it could be that they know that Manning will be in there week one and they are not even practicing a non-Manning offense in camp.

"Yes, but do you think mom will buy it?"

They are about 95% running the play that is called in the huddle. Huddle. That's right, they are huddling on every play.

Say what you will, but if the Colts truly thought that there was a chance that Manning was not going to be ready week one, they would be putting a heck of a lot more effort into running a viable NFL offense.

I want to call attention to this piece by Scott Bolander on Blue Sunday. In it, he argues the Colts act like a team that knows Manning will play week one.

I made this same point on the radio yesterday.

If there was any chance at all Manning wasn't going to play, the Colts should be spending all their time building a run-heavy two tight end offense to take pressure off a veteran backup.

The fact is that the Colts have come out throwing more often than not. The Colts offense doesn't resemble the kind of system that would promote low-scoring tight victories.

If Manning does miss time, then the Colts have done a seriously poor job of preparing for the event. The fact that they are prepping the way they are with the players they have at quarterback means that they are either totally incompetent or simply completely convinced Manning is coming back.

I believe they know what so many seem to be saying: there's absolutely no chance Manning misses week one.

  3. For what it is worth gentlemen....he has all the makings of being the biggest steal off of the waiver wire in sometime. He was a tightend who has added weight and muscle:

09/09/10 - OT Joe Reitz has been signed to the roster. Reitz, who grew up in the Indianapolis area, had been waived by Miami earlier in the week. He had originally been signed as an undrafted free agent by Baltimore in 2008. Reitz played college basketball at Western Michigan and had not played organized football since high school before he was signed by the Ravens. "We had a chance to follow his background a little bit. Our personnel department took a good look at him and we know he has ability," coach Jim Caldwell said. "He's a guy that can obviously move his feet. He played basketball. He's got a good body and we think he's got good potential. Real good upside. So we're real anxious to have an opportunity to put him to work."

  4. I literally laughed so hard" a little pee came out" to quote Peyton...I can't type I am laughing so hard. I needed that....I owe you one!

    quote name='hurricane1122' timestamp='1313435241' post='14467']

colts are pretty stacked at linebacker.

  5. In the Tommie Harris thread somebody forwarded the idea he may be part of a "stockpile" for potential trade. That is possibility. With regard to Asante Samuel, he would be a trade situation. I don't know what we have for value in that department as far as his team (or other impact player) is concerned, but if it happened his cap hit for 2011 is about 5M. Interesting.

Why would someone trade away a player if they could have just signed these guys in the first place?

  6. You're telling me that a 3 time Pro Bowler can't beat a backup. I know he hasn't done anything with us yet, but it's a safe bet he gets the starting job. Plus Chicago's defense is similar to ours, it's a 4-3 defense, and run many of the same plays. Plus Lovie Smith uses the Tampa 2 defense, which is the same as what Tony Dungy used, and I'm pretty sure the Colts still use a Tampa 2. Two similar defenses, which means similar results. Harris beats Moala handily.

    Seriously....let's keep it in perspective

  7. Now our DT position looks like this:

    1. Tommie Harris

    2. Antonio Johnson

    3. Fili Moala

    4. Drake Nevis

    5. Demario Pressley

    6. Ricardo Matthews

Eric Foster switches back to backup DE.

No way Harris will be at the top of the list....I like the signing because what could it hurt, but realistically it would be shocking if he can contribute. I hope very much that I am wrong, and he is a top of the line starter, but I don't think I am in. I am by no means questioning the move however, I like putting as many eggs as possible in our basket.

  8. The only thing Rex Ryan gets is that every word he utters is on mic. He loves to hear himself yap more than any coach or player I have ever seen. 3 straight years now guaranteeing a SB victory.... :whiteflag:

    His act is getting old.

Ditka said it best...that apple(Rex Ryan) didn't fall far from the tree. Buddy struggled having great success as a head Coach, but players loved to play for him. The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence. Value what you have and ask the question: why aren't more teams doing what we're doing? It is a formula that works period. I do not know of any owner that is knocking down the door to hire any one of us to become their GM or director of scouting.

  9. i was disturbed when i read this in the article..

"the Colts completed a three-year, $14 million contract to keep Joseph Addai"

for those of u keeping track that is:

1.67 mil more than ceddy benson

1.16 mil more than darren sproles

2.16 mil more than marion barber

3.93 mil less than deangelo williams

brahshaw just signed so well c how much less he was than addai tomorrow

Compared to all of those guys we got a steal. A score for Polian! I am glad he is on our side.

  11. I am surprised since we do not save as much money as originally was anticipated before last week, but the Colts have great depth at corner. Jerrod Powers could be a future star if he is able to stay healthy. He is special. Justin Tryon may have been our best Dee bee last year after Antoine Bethea. He has great agility. The next two guys in the stable who have the potential to get it done are rookie Chris Rucker and last year's 3rd round draft choice Kevin Thomas. Both these two guys have the ability to be future starters. They both have good size, and had great College careers. The wild card in the mix is Cornelius Brown. Brown looked very strong in the last couple games and may have what it takes to stick.....despite the popular belief that we are thin at safety, I like the potential of some of the young guys we have. It is hard to know at this stage which ones will stick, but Newton, Caldwell, Alfalava, and Vaughn in particular all could be in the mix for major roles behind Bethea and Bullitt. You gotta love this time of year!!!

    Here is the reason:

"Hayden was in the third year of a $43 million dollar contract. Since signing that deal, Hayden has appeared in only twenty regular season games. A neck injury landed him on the Injured Reserve list last season. He was to count roughly $9 million against Indy's cap in 2011."

    Stampede blue

If he was going to cost us 9 million, this was a no brainer.

  12. Hopefully we will fine out something soon..!!!!

We are not going to be signing a big time free agent corner. It will not happen. One guy who I failed to mention in the post above was Jacob Lacey, and he may be in the middle of the pack. We have a ton of potential at Corner. It would be a shock if we threw more money at that position for this season.

  14. Colts need Patrick Willis, Ray Lewis, Derrick Brooks, Zach Thomas, Brian Urlacher, DeMarcus Ware, Sam Huff, Derrick Thomas, Kevin Greene, Jack Lambert, Mike Singletary, Dick Butkus and Lawrence Taylor, Larry the cable guy and Superman all playing in their prime. I'm not sure if they have enough caproom though, it also might be hard to acquire some of them. I'm sure we would see a significant improvement the D. They could also throw Ryan Leaf in as well at LB just for the to hedge against and injury then the universe would implode and cease to exist.

    This....LMBO
