It's not just you, NCF.  I don't think either of them is worth a top 20 pick.

I agree with DownHillRunner that we need to address our pass rusher situation early in the draft, but I'm not willing to reach that far for Landry or Bryan.

I also don't think it is very likely that we trade back all the way to 12.  Buffalo will have to sell their next two drafts to get Ballard to lose out on a top prospect (Nelson, Chubb, Barkley, Edmunds), and I doubt they're prepared to go that far.  I don't care what the value charts say, I'm not accepting 12 and 22 for 6 (unless I already have a deal in place to move back up with 12 and 37 to get Edmunds).

Tremaine Edmunds will not make it past the Bears at #8. They need an inside linebacker. I think if the Colts thinks Edmunds if the "Mike" that they can build a defense around, then they should take him at 6 if Chubb and Nelson are off the board. Otherwise I wouldn't count on him being there after the #8 pick. Now, I could be wrong. Bears could go CB (Ward) or G (Nelson) and leave Edmunds. However, Edmunds would then be snatched up by the 49rs who have a huge need at ILB and would be next on the clock. So, I think if we trade out of #6 with the Bills then we are saying goodbye to Edmunds.

However, We have so many holes to fill. Picking at #12 we can still getting a defensive playmaker. If we don't like Landry, then we don't pick Landry. We could use another starting CB, DT, WLB, MLB, heck even upgrade at strong safety. At the #12, I think taking the second best DE (Landry) is not that much of a reach. However, if we think his lack of strength can't be improved upon, then we choose somebody else; (DT) Vea isn't going to be too much of a reach, for example.

My bigger point is, I think we can use the picks. I think someone else will get to trade with the Bills before we do. And I don't think that the Colts would be too afraid of moving to #12. Heck, I think the Browns or Broncos will happily take the #12 and #22 for their #4 or #5 spots, respectively.

  2. Scenario A) The Giants take a QB and the first 3 off the board are QBs, AND the Browns don't trade #4, AND the Broncos don't take a QB at #5 or trade out of #5, then I think the Colts have a chance of trading with the Bills.

Scenario B) The Giants take Barkley/Chubb, the Browns take Chubb/Barkley and the other 3 teams grab QBs, then we have a chance at trading with the Bills for a QB.

In either scenario A or B, the Bills better love that #4 QB that is left on the board, be his Surname Mayfield, Allen, Rosen, or Darnold.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I got to the above scenarios with the following flight of ideas.

#1 - Browns are taking their QB with #1 overall.

#2 - Giants are looking for a king's ransom with the #2, and I think they might get it from Buffalo with both of Buffalo's #1 and a #1 next year; I think the only way the Giants don't trade out of this with the Bills is if the Bills won't give up next year's first round draft pick. Also, I do not think that Elway will trade his 5th and future #1s with the Giants. I don't think the Giants will give up the #2 to Miami because Miami doesn't have the draft capital (Dolphins have the #11 pick and the # 10 pick in second round). The Cardinals are a bit of a wild card as well; they have the #15 and the #47 this year; they won't be good next year even with a new QB, so you could bank on them having a high first rounder next year. I think Cardinals could go for broke giving up their #1,#2 this year and a #1 next year. From the Giants perspective, they are in a bit of trouble with OBJ and an aging QB. I tend to agree with Colin Cowherd on the Giants trying to win now. I think they get OBJ a new deal, I think they grab more picks by trading with one of those three teams.

    #3 - Jets are taking a QB.

#4 - Brown's are in a prime spot to trade down here. I think they are ready to cash in their picks. The only way they would trade out of this is with Buffalo; exchanging a #4 for two first rounders and a 3rd. However, they may just take Barkley or Chubb to pair with their new QB.

#5 - Denver's pick is a total mystery for me. I have less insight here than any of the other picks. They could go with corner (Fitzpatrick), edge (Chubb if he is still on the board), or guard (Nelson), or if Elway likes Allen or Mayfield those guys might be gone.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If we do trade with the Bills the board could look something like this:

Browns - QB (I don't care which one)

    Giants - Chubb/Barkley

Jets - QB (I don't care which one)

    Browns - Barkley/Chubb

    Broncos - QB/Nelson/Fitzpatrick/Ward

Bills - QB (I don't care which one)

    Bucs - Fitzpatrick/James/Ward

    Bears - Nelson/Edmunds

    49rs - James/Ward/Fitzpatrick/Edmunds

    Raiders - Smith/Edmunds/James

    Dolphins - QB/Landry/Ward/Vea

Chubb, Barkley, Nelson, Fitzpatrick, James, Edmunds/Smith, Ward, 4QBs could realistically all be off the board...

Colts options would look something like: Harold Landry (DE) or Roquan Smith (WLB) or Isiah Oliver (CB) or Vita Vea (DT)

    * Any of these would be instant starters and difference makers in my opinion.

Everyone needs to realize something while they are complaining that we aren't spending all of our available money... This money will roll over to next year and the year after if need be...  By that time, with a couple good drafts, we could be serious contenders who are just a couple pieces from a long run of Super Bowl contention.   Wouldn't you rather have this money available then, to go after a few big names to really put us over the hump, instead of blowing it all now on mediocre players?

Am I the only one who sees this as the plan they have in place?

I get it. I understand it. Two issues that myself and I imagine other fans have with that plan:

    1) We are impatient. (This we will get over)

    2) You GOT to spend some money on that O-Line to keep Andrew upright.

  4. He is athletic for sure; but I think he has a processing problem.

I am not sure that is ever getting "fixed" by a new coaching staff.

Moreover, he was not ever a big "wrap-up" tackler; reminded me of a faster /smaller LaRon Landry.

I will certainly be happy to be proven wrong, though.

  5. Hernandez and Vander Esch could be gone, but on several "big boards" these guys are typically not above #40 and we would be picking 36, 37 in this scenario.

Although, PFF does have both Hernandez and Vander Esch ranked more highly...

  6. Pre-Draft

    - Cousins sign with Vikings. Leaving Broncos, Jets, Cardinals, Bills & Browns all looking for QBs...

    First Round

    - Browns panic and think they can't take Saquon Barkley RB - with #4 and select him #1 overall.

    - Giants, with Barkley already selected, take Josh Rosen - QB.

    - Now Colts are on the clock with Darnold & Allen are both available... We trade with the Jets who give us their #1 & #2 picks this year, & a pick next year.

    - Jets take Sam Darnold - QB

    - Brown take Josh Allen - QB

    - Broncos take Minkah Fitzpatrick - CB

    - Colts take Bradley Chubb - DE

Second Round - Colts now have 2 picks in the second round #36, & #37 (from Jets)

    #36 - Will Hernandez  - Guard

    #37 - Leighton Vander Esch - LB

    Round 3

    Jaire Alexander - CB

(Probably will get snatched up in the second round by somebody, but it is possible).

    Round 4

    Royce Freeman - RB

(His college dropoff in production was due to injury. His running style would complement Mack's.)

  7. Not a troll. Just a pessimist, wondering if my team will catch a break.

Look at the line in Doyel's column regarding Mort and Luck.

I hope Andrew heals up great and comes back. But just in case he doesn't are we rolling with Brissett and a second rounder next year? If so, who will be there at pick #36?

Lauletta had a great Senior Bowl performance...

    1) I don't think so. I think your #5 outweighs any idea that the Colts did anything wrong.

    2) Don't know, but it sounds like we're honoring their contracts. It also sounds like Phair is more linked with Eberflus and Ballard than McDaniels, so that's probably not a bad thing at this point.

    3) Not really, IMO. I wasn't excited about anyone else, I thought McDaniels was the best candidate. The only guy I would have considered is Shurmur, and evidently he wasn't even requested by the Colts.

    4) Not that hard, I don't think. He'll be viewed in contrast to the snake.

#1 I don't think we are disorganized. However, other folks out there are going to take it that way.
#2 I hope Phair and Eberflus pan out and work well with whomever we bring in as HC.

#3 & #4 Hope that is indeed the case.
