  1. To all those whining about us not addressing CB depth in the draft. Have you not given ample thought to the fact that upgraded front 7 will have a dramatic effect on Coverage.

If we can effectively collapse the pocket with the front 7 coverage will be dramatically easier for the back 4. Simple football here people. By watching the draft and free agency moves it is apparent to me the coaching staff feels the coverage will improve with who we have on hand, in the back 4.

In Grigson and Pagano I trust!

    Go COLTS!!!

  2. For me it would be the AFC championship game in the Hoosier dome. Against the Pats. I have never heard the fans that loud in my life. I have been to many colts games I try to do at least 2 or 3 a year. And just about every play off game. Including the year we beat the broncos in the play offs right after they stomped us in the regular season. The dome was always loud for play off games, but the AFC championship game against new england was the loudest I have ever heard it. When they put Cato June on the Jumbo tron and he said "ARE YOU READY!?!"

Late in the game Brady was driving the ball and we had an uncovered receiver on the left side of the field. The whole stadium started to scream at our defense.

My ears rang for days after that win. That was a great game and a great win. What a roller coaster.

  3. If the preseason is any indication at all, the TEs won't be heavily featured as receivers this year. I agree with TruBlu on this one... Wayne/Collie/Avery/Hilton/Brazil are going to get their touches waaaaaayy more than the TEs are... particularly since Fleener is a bit of a butterfingers at this point. This isn't going to be a Gronk/Hernandez type offense. At least not this year, anyways....

My whole point is 3 TE is not enough to have on the roster. I expected a move here to add depth. Although we have not done it. I still expect to see one. That leaves us shallow.

The obvious move we needed to make was DT and we did. I thought we have a few better choices but I guess the coaches didn't. With 1 on our practice squad and Chapman back week 7 we should be ok at NT now. Nevis can play the spot in a pinch if needed.

  4. That's what I thought about the Q,B. spot But,so far they don't agree. I just don't think we need 3 Q.B.'S

Wrong, Develop Harnish, and drop Stanton down the road. Harnish would never clear waivers. Since camp it was obvious we needed 3 on the roster. Most teams in this league do.

Our woes in the trenches are causing us to need them for support. When we fix that I expect them to get the ball more.

    True. Nicely put.

I disagree with this. I think being in 12 personnel (1 back, 2 TEs, 2 receivers) is very much a part of our long term plans, and is what the rest of the league is trending towards as well. We wouldn't have invested 2 of our higher picks (back-to-back) in a position we plan to phase out soon. Multiple TE formations allow for more versatility in the offense. Even more so when those TE's can catch AND block effectively.

My point exactly. It is trendy but it works. Creates mismatches. The key to the F position in the offense. And all the movement pre-snap.

  5. True, but that position is relatively easy to fill if injuries occur.

There are tons of H-backs just sitting around their house on Sundays. Plus it's not like Kyle Miller was exactly tearing it up.

It wasn't kyle miller that got me, I thought Andre Smith Deserved a spot. Unless the coach's thought they would see a better option on waiver wire. I really expected to See 4 TE with out snow on the roster.

  6. Not that surprising to me, IMO.

Biggest surprise to me was Anunoby not making the roster. But very little else was surprising.

IMO Harvey is the bubble guy at LB, but LB is generally one of our deepest positions. Unless an opportunity comes up that we just can't resist, I don't see any real roster churning at LB - why cut a guy like Addison or Freeman or Fokou? Those guys have lit it up in the preseason. I mean, I guess I could see Fokou being cut if a good LB came up, but it's unlikely. Mathis, Freeman, Hughes, and Addison have all been absolutely stellar, and Angerer is still probably the best LB on the team. Freeney has been disappointing, but that is what it is, and Connor is good. LB is, post-preseason, one of the real bright spots on the team.

CB OTOH is a big cut point. I see it as Powers-Davis-Johnson at the moment, with the other guys relatively expendable (though I think it's nominally Vaughn-King-Gordy at the moment). If a solid nickel or dime back is available I think we go for them, but the truth is that if we go into season with Vaughn/King/Gordy as the dime back, I'm mostly OK with that.

I agree with Addison on the outside but think it is Harvey in trouble in the middle. Fokou clearly out played him pre season. Although Inside might not see cuts until week 5 when Angerer is back. I think that was the prediction for his return. Because of the week 4 bye.

I like vaughn would not be heart if King or Gordy got cut.

  7. The biggest surprise in cuts for me is that we only kept 3 TE's on the roster. When we plan to field 2 and 3 TE personnel sets.

Along with the obvious whole at DT depth. I expect some TE waiver moves. with CB and LB obvious cut points. Who is on the bubble at OLB and ILB?

  8. It seems to be one way or the other, we are going to the playoffs, or we stink. Can't just one fan say,

"7-9 or 9-7...no more or no less"

    Heh......heh...... ;)

I say we are 9-7 wild card team sneak in with the 6th seed.

  9. They just put up over 230 yards on the ground on TB. They dominated the trenches. Does this change your opinion of last weeks game?

I think like the coaches have said all week. It is never as bad as your think it is, Or how good you think it is when you look at film.

Missed protection calls on O and gap assignments on D. The war is in the trenches.

  10. Few things to remember:

    1. Wavier rule is only in affect for players who have less than four years (I think it could be three) in the league if they have more than that they go straight to free agency.

    2. There is normally a reason players get cut. It's largely because they aren't the players they once were when we grew to know their names. That is normally the case in the first round of cuts. Remember the players who are cut today or tomorrow aren't good enough to beat out over 20 more guys who are also going to end up cut. I really don't know how much we are going to find during this round of cuts. It would be the next round of cuts that I think the Colts will watch closely on the wavier wire. That is the round where you can see some guys released due to simply being too deep at a poistion.

You beat me to it. My thoughts exactly. This cut is not the right place to be fishing for stop gaps. Next cut will be better players.

  11. That's fine. I just think when I come to Colts forum I would like to see threads that add something to the forum. I guess others don't feel the same.

The general Idea of a forum is to speculate and discuss our team. I just got home from watching the game at the bar. I was speculating. Simmer down now.

  12. Calm down. We lost the war in the trenches today. Our O-line missed protection a lot. Didn't pick up blitz effectively. They need time to Gel and communicate with each other. Once the blocking calls get corrected our skilled players looked good on O.

I hope the trade brings in some upgrades along the line. Or at least we spend money next year with all that free cap money.
