  1. A Redskins fan, an Eagles fan, a Patriots fan, and a Colts fan are climbing a mountain and arguing about who loves his team more. The Redskins fan insists he is the most loyal. 'This is for the Redskins! ' he yells, and jumps off the side of the mountain. Not to be outdone, the Eagles fan shouts, 'This is for the Eagles!' and throws himself off the mountain. The Colts fan is next to profess his love for his team. He yells, 'This is for everyone!' and pushes the Patriots fan off the mountain.

  2. I recommend the carrot cake with a scoop of vanilla at the Colts Grill.   Its huge and delicious.   We barely finished it, and after 37 years of marriage, my wife found out that I like carrot cake!!!!!   I guess there's still 'mystery' after all these years!!!

The good news is we climbed the stairs, all 334? at the Soldiers and Sailors Monument the next day to work that off.

  3. Hi nnjcoltsman! So glad you and your wife had a great time! I'm one of the two colt fans you talked to at the stadium. My wife and I ended up at the security office along with the couple that had the same tickets. Security said their tickets were valid and ours were fake. How they know this I don't know. Our tickets were scanned just like theirs but we were the ones who got escorted out of the stadium. We went to the Crowne plaza and found Stub Hub who after apologizing profusely issued us new tickets in the end zone section 125. We got to our seats about halfway through the 1st quarter. Like you, I have been a colts fan all my life and like you this was my dream trip to Indy to see the colts live. We were very disappointed with the results. We purchased our tickets in April 2015 and gave a lot of money for good seats but we had to settle for what was available. Also, stadium security was unconcerned about our dilemma. IMO the stadium should have a contingency plan in effect for this. Anyway, the people in downtown Indy were very friendly and we had a good time with the exception of the tickets.

We were wondering what happened to you guys.  The other couple came back and they were not smiling.  I wonder what the deal is with stubhub?  How can that big organization pass through phony tickets?   We bought ours through ticketmaster.  Phony tickets probably happen all the time, I could imagine.  You got a refund, and then had to pay again for the end zone tickets?   Regardless, we enjoyed talking to you and your wife.  What a coincidence to 'meet' on the forums here.  Though the end zone tickets were not as good as the originals, it sure was a fantastic game!

We just got back late yesterday (11/11/15)  Man, thats a lot of driving.  1626 miles in total.   I think we'll try the train 'next' time!  Keep in touch.

  4. Thanks everyone!

Got to Indy, met a lot of Indy fans from all over the US and Canada!  The seats were fantastic and had some great fans seated next to us and behind.

Spent time touring Indy, walking around down town, walking up the soldiers and sailors monument, enjoying its civil war museum, then the War Memorial and its museum, a trolley ride, and tons of walking.  Colts grill was good.

    Touchdown Town was fun.

    So many nice people!

Great Canadian fans sitting next to us at the game.

Jack Skeleton dressed with a Colts jersey put the voo-doo on Denver!

Hotel was good, and the area was so busy with the band competition, concert and then the game.

And what a game!  Holy Cow!  I never expected a win!

Got my 'first game' and 'its my birthday' buttons.  So cool.

    Thanks for all the advice.

Hope the 2 fans I talked to got new seats..........

  5. Whenever I have friends come in to visit for a weekend this is typically what we would do. All of this obviously depends on your budget and interests, but if money is not a problem then I would consider at least some of my suggestions below. I only included one chain suggestion otherwise the rest are all local. I didn’t include St. Elmo’s or some of the other places because everyone suggests that and I wanted to give you the opportunity to actually assimilate with some of the locals if you wanted. I know when I go on vacation I don’t want to do “touristy” stuff. People in Indy are generally pretty nice and like to have a good time.

    Saturday Afternoon/Evening:

If you like craft beer Indy has a ton of them. They even have brewery tours that will take you around the city in “luxury.” They have six times on Saturday so plenty of time to try some delicious beer, meet new people, and explore the city. I would definitely recommend this as a great opportunity to drink good beer and just hang out. You might meet people to hang out with afterwards. http://www.brewerytoursofindianapolis.com/home.html

    Saturday Dinner:

This is a newer restaurant that you and your wife would like as an evening meal, Blue Beard. Great location on Virginia Ave. and great food. Menu changes daily and they use local fresh ingredients. This is one of Indy’s rising chef stars. http://bluebeardindy.com/

The other saturday night dinner suggestion would be Plow and Anchor. http://plowandanchor.com/This location is still downtown but it is on the north side of downtown so you would want to take a quick taxi or Uber to get there. But, it would be worth it.

    Saturday Night:

After dinner I would just explore the downtown area. If you like live music hit up the Slippery Noodle, a jazz bar right by your hotel. http://www.slipperynoodle.com/index.php

There is also a Howl at the Moon on Georgia Street that I like to go to whenever I’m in the mood for live music downtown. *This is a chain and I apologize, but it’s fun as hell. http://www.howlatthemoon.com/indianapolis/

On Saturday nights when the weather is good you can just get lost on Georgia Street and Meridian Street with the nightlife and just enjoy. Most people are there to have a good time and usually they do.

If beer is not your style and you prefer mixed drinks there is a good mixology lounge right by your hotel called Platt 99. https://www.thealexander.com/dining/plat-99-mixology-lounge

If you enjoy a good cigar with your cocktail, Nicky Blaines. http://nickyblaines.com/

    Sunday Morning:

There are two very good brunch locations that I would highly recommend before the game:

    Cafe Patachou: http://www.cafepatachou.com/

It is pretty cheap and delicious. They use local jowl bacon and it is wonderful (if you like bacon). Some of the best omelets you will have.

The other one is new and by another rising star chef Johnathon Brooks, Milktooth: http://www.milktoothindy.com/

My wife and I went here back in May and damn it was good. The drinks are funky and fun (I had no idea you could use beer in a bloody marry). Anyways, Brooks has been nominated as one of the best new chefs in the country and the location has won several awards already http://www.indystar.com/story/entertainment/2015/03/31/milktooth-best-new-chef/70719696/

    Sunday Lunch:

For lunch I would do as others have suggested and go to the Colts Grille, http://coltsgrille.g3restaurants.com/

Then go find some people to tailgate with and enjoy the game! Lucas Oil is a great place to watch a football game. I have sat everywhere in the stadium and there isn’t a bad seat in the house, from the lower levels to the upper.

Let me know what you like and dislike about my suggestions and I can better tailor it to you and your wife.

    Wow, fantastic info.  Thanks!

One thing we like to do is have a great dinner (not fancy food), forgo desert there,  then go walking and look for a specialized desert place/ice cream parlor.  It doesn't have to be fancy, just excellent.   Some of the best places we've been to are in beat up looking places, but homemade ice creams, etc.   Any ideas?

We love having breakfast since we don't usually make it for ourselves.   We'll check out those two suggestions.  Jowl bacon?  Don't think I've had it.

Is there a food that's special to the Indy area?

We'll park the car in the garage and try to walk everywhere.  If too far, we'll get a ride, but would like to keep it within a mile.  Is that reasonable?

We're not big bar people (our resistance is low, haha), but I can see us stopping in somewhere for a beer / drink and some bar food at night.

We're doing the Indy Trolley so that'll get us configured to the area, I hope.

Strange question;  If the roof is closed, and its November, what's the temp inside?    Is there a 'LOS Dog' or some other stadium food special to LOS?    I better bring the pepto.......

    We're getting so excited!

    Bob

  6. You're in really good seats man! You probably won't even need binoculars. lol

Great, I thought they were good.  My wife's great.  She did this all by herself with a little help from my brother.  Picked the game and the seats.  She'll be next to me  yelling too!   This is a dream come true for me and us.  She never watched football until we started going out and has had to suffer with me screaming at the TV all these 40 years.  Going to Gettysburg (again) on the way out (Indiana had some great dedication in the CW) and she has us going home via the NFL Hall of Fame.  How great is she!!!

    Bob

  7. Also tell your wife to leave her purse in car or hotel room. They only allow clear bags or little bitty bags. Seen admit of people get all the way up to the security check point and have to walk all the way back cause they had a bag that was to big.

Yeah, I bought one of those clear official NFL bags, jic.

    Thanks

    Bob

  8. Game day downtown you'll have fun just being around so many colts fans.  Just wandering around is fun

    http://www.colts.com/stadium/pre-game-fun.html

Lots of food options near the stadium.  It just depends on how much you want to spend and what you like to eat

    http://www.downtownindy.org/explore-downtown/eat-drink/

If you are a beer fan, micro brews are a big deal here: Sunking is big locally and they do tours http://www.sunkingbrewing.com/

If the weather is nice you can just walk around and see what strikes your fancy

As for saturday, it depends on what you like:

I love walking the canal if the weather is nice, all the museums are along the canal, you can rent bikes and paddle boats

    http://www.indianatrails.com/content/canal-walk-indianapolis

There are some beautiful historic neighborhoods to just wander though: Lockerbie square is beautiful

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lockerbie_Square_Historic_District

and it's right off mass ave (where there are a lot of restaurants & shops so you can wander around and see what suits you)

    https://www.visitindy.com/indianapolis-mass-ave-arts-district

I like bazbeaux (pizza) and chatham tap on mass ave

    http://chathamtap.com/

Wow, thanks Nadine!   I'll enjoy reading all this.  Very helpful and thanks for the links.

You know anything about the Civil War Museum on Monument Circle?

  9. Manning jerseys are always okay to wear. You'll see a bunch of them. The stadium has multiple entrances. Pretty much everything in the city is walking distance. A bunch of restaurants and bars downtown that you can go to. Georgia St. has a tailgate type setup with drinks and music before the game. If you get in the stadium early and want to kill some time, it's not a bad idea to just walk around and explore it. You can access the Pro Shop once inside as well and I always recommend going to the window and checking out the view.

That's good, I'd like to wear my old #18 jersey.  My wife specifically picked this game so we could see him play.   And in the NY/NJ stadiums, you could be in trouble wearing the wrong jersey.

I'd like to check out the stadium inside.   Are there a bunch of stores inside or just the Pro Shop?

    Thanks

    Bob

  10. If the weather is crappy you can walk thru the convention center straight into the stadium. Also everything downtown is within walking distance. So if you don't plan on driving once you get to town Saturday try to park in the parking garage on Washington Street. It has a sky walk into the Marriott. If you park Saturday and don't leave till after the game you can park for free (they charge $10 on game day). We had season tickets in 2013&14. We only paid for parking once which was the 1st game we went to.

We liked to go the the ram bar or the Colts bar and grill on Saturday nights for dinner then we'd just wall around the bar hop. On Sunday morning we would go to Champs in the Marriott for breakfast and beers. Get there early they get packed on game day. They should have touch down town set up if the weather is nice. There'll be a band and drink specials before the game.

After the game exit back thru the convention center back to the parking garage and you'll be back on the interstate in 10mins(depending on what level you parked on). I always tried to park on lowest level.

Enjoy indy and the game it's a great city to spend the weekend in and see a game. We miss not having season tickets. Hopefully we get them next year.

We'll walk to the game and back.  But a good hearty breakfast would be something I'd like.   But we don't drink that much, but like a beer or whatever.   Is it actually 'breakfast AND beer?

    Thanks

    Bob

  11. I went last year from NY by car with friend (as he is long time Oiler/Titan fan). Ist NFL game ever as Colt fan since early 70's. Make sure you go to Touchdown town before the game, which is opened a few hours before the game. It's by the entrance of Lucas Oil and they have give-aways, meet cheerleaders, and get autographs frrom them and a former Indy player too. I met Jeff Herrod last year. I plan on going back. Which hotel u by and seats? Make sure you check Colts Pro Shop when enetr the stadium. Also on that level, go to Toyota table are and get 1st Colt game button while they have them. Pleanty of places to eat by and at the stadium. Colt Fans are very cool and friendly. The game action is very fast live compared to what you see on TV.

    Thanks Jcolt72.

We're in the Comfort Suites hotel and will walk from there.

    We're in section 237, level 2.

Got to get those 'first timer buttons'

  12. I've been a Colts fan all my life.  But I live in NJ.

For my last birthday, my wife presented me (and her) with tickets to the Denver game along with hotel reservations!!   So we're making a car trip to Indy.   Never been there before and believe it or not, haven't been to ANY game since a Houston Gamblers game in the 80's.

What we need is information and advice.  1. What to do or go on Saturday and early Sunday, and,  2.Game/stadium information.

Any suggestions as to what to do?   Maybe the Indy Trolley?   Any suggested places to see and eat?

Then, as to game day.......Its a 4:25 game.   Is there something in the stadium to see, stores, etc?  And what time should we go in?   Of course we want to take in the whole experience, so give us some suggestions.

I'm excited to see both Peyton and Luck play each other, no matter what the outcome.  I have my old #18 jersey.....would that be bad to wear it for this game?

Any advice as to things to bring?  We have binoculars, but would that be too much?

I'm basically clueless, so bring on the suggestions.  We're so excited and I thank my dear wife for such a great present!

    Thanks

    Bob
