  1. I really don't know how I became a fan to be honest. I've lived in New York all my life, which makes it even stranger. I will admit that I am young and became a fan in the early 2000s, so I didn't have to suffer through all the years before Peyton came along (sorry to those who did :sorry: ). Before about 2002 I didn't really have a favorite team. One Sunday my dad was watching a Colts game and I sat down with him and watched. I didn't really know football at the time, and during that game he explained the basics and got me into it. I remember the Colts were in their white unis, and I just fell in love with them. I got to know every aspect of the team, players, coaches, front office, even basic offensive and defensive schemes at a very young age. Used to love going out in the backyard and having my brother run the slant pattern like Marvin so I could imitate Peyton. And to this day, it's been the Horseshoe for life!!!

  2. This just in, Peyton misses a slant route in practice. This just in, Peyton threw to Austin Collie today instead of Reggie Wayne for a change. This just in, Peyton was in the weight room. This just in, Peyton overslept.

I can't wait until the decision is made. The reiteration and nit-picking is getting ridiculous.

  3. Sometimes I wonder if Skip job is to look bad, say stupid things, and make ridiculous predictions. Like he's trying to be the guy that's always wrong or the guy you love to hate.

I've thought that too. There's no way that ESPN can keep someone on the air who is as disliked and points are disputed as much as him. He may be ESPN's version of a "heel" so to say.

  4. You're right on the money!! I rarely watch the guy, because he is a joke and I don't like people screaming at me all the time...same goes for Steven A. Smith. Where do they find these "experts?" They think the louder they talk the more intelligent they get?

I love watching Stephen A rip Skip Bayless apart though on First Take!

  5. I'm not seeing a scenerio where we don't turn out to be the next Detriot Lions, I'm not talking this year's lions but the team that drafted 3 WR's with top picks in a row. Or we could be the Rams. *sidenote: without megatron, that lions team is way overrated*

Without Peyton and this new change to a 3-4. Then no way will Wayne come back. Freeney is a non-factor in the rush from a 3-4 DE position. Our linebackers and secondary are well....you know they need more than just help.

We can only improve from the draft, no FA is going to want to play here with Luck. Lets see, go play with the Bears and Cutler. The Vikings/Cardinals and Manning? or come to rebuilding Indy and a rookie QB. So any scenerio of signing top FA is just not going to happen. Plus, signing top FA isn't the way to go anyways, unless your Superbowl ready. The only way we sign "top" FA this year is if Manning is coming back.

I do think we could be good again in 4-5 years. But that is still just a maybe. And when I say good, I mean like the past 10 years good. When we are not just happy with making it too the playoffs, but want championship games.

I'll keep Peyton, even with a weak triceps, and try to win superbowls now. Even if we do trade away luck for Picks, and manning doesn't work out well. then we are still left with a way more quality team overall. Andrew Luck will not be the last good QB to come out in the next 4 years.

I agree with your thinking that there will be more guys down the road rather than Luck. But I don't agree with your first two thoughts. Wayne has gone on record saying he would not be opposed to returning to a rebuilding Colts team (I can post a link if you want).

Pagano said he has a plan for both Freeney and Mathis in a 3-4 in his first presser and feels they can produce in any defensive scheme (same as above, I can give a link). Freeney can be moved to a stand-up rusher like Mario Williams.

And here are my thoughts on free agency. Sure, if it's decided to rebuild, that may skew people's vision towards the team. But, a) money, money, money. Alot of guys are greatly influenced by money and can be swayed at the right price (with the cap issues, no one knows though). and b) I don't see why a young free agent wouldn't want to come. Now these are just examples of guys who are scheduled to be upcoming free agents (and are possibilities to not remain with their current team) and I do not expect any of these guys to come here (but hey, it would be nice), but 27 year old Dwayne Bowe? 27 year old Ben Grubbs? 26 year old Carl Nicks? 25 year old Cliff Avril? As I said, just some examples. But by your thinking that the Colts could be good again in 4-5 years, these guys would be in their early 30s. It's not unattractive to be coming to Indy as a younger free agent if they share the same belief that you do, and if Irsay and Grigson relay that line of thinking that success will be back in 4-5 years.

  6. Here is the article. Problem I have with it, like all the others this week, is it is an opinion piece. No quotes, no explanation of how they could renogiate (we've been round and round about whether that is even possible in the new CBA), just more speculaiton, theories, and possibilities.....

Thanks for the link, didn't have time to find it.

And yes you're right, mainly speculation

  7. Now after hearing Peyton is cleared for football, I'm leaning more towards possibly trading that #1 overall as long as Peyton's recovery keeps progressing. Think about what we would get from a guy like Dan Snyder in Washington or Stephen Ross in Miami for that pick. They would give the HOUSE for Andrew Luck. Maybe event the Browns would be interested, and they have the 4th and 22nd overall picks. In many people's opinion it wouldn't make sense to give up that pick, but the value you could get in return would be unbelievable. Irsay could push it far enough to get talent to be immediate Super Bowl contenders IMO because teams like Washington and Miami would die for that pick. I'm a big advocate of drafting Luck, I really am. But if 18 will come back as 18, we could finally surround him with what he needs by trading that pick. No cap hit on us, just talent in return and with that talent we could have an explosive offense lead by Peyton like what's been here for the past decade and either immediate talent or draft picks to use mainly on defense (or at least what I would focus on in the draft.)

  8. Hmmm, maybe I've misread the situation. I thought he wanted out.

If he's willing to sign a reasonable contract, I'm all for bringing him back. I was just under the impression he wanted to be paid like 28 year old Reggie Wayne.

I was too. It's a good sign though that he said he's willing to come back, but he still may want that bigtime money. Hasn't been much talk about this in the media so no one really knows.

    Reggie said this earlier.

“So I wouldn’t mind being part of a rebuilding process. They need some old heads, too, you know? It would be an honor to still be part of this organization even with a rebuilding phase. I know there are going to be some guys on the team that I still know, I know the head coach, Chuck Pagano, pretty good, I’d just look at it as my rookie year all over again.”

  10. I don't know that people are throwing him under the bus per say. Personally, I have accepted the fact along with many of us that 18 may not be in a Colts uniform next year. I am an advocate of drafting Andrew Luck and going ahead with him next season, but I'm also an advocate of having the field general QBing for us for a few more years. I think it's more people are preparing for the fact that Peyton may not be a Colt next year. I probably can't find a single person on this forum who doesn't appreciate what 18 has done for this franchise. He has been the glue and foundation for the past decade and because of him, Colts football has been a household name among playoff/SB contenders. But, again, people must face reality. Peyton may not be here next year, and if so, people need to be prepared for the coming of Luck IMO. Sure, he may not live up to potential. He may not be a "sufficient" successor to Peyton (not that there's many people who can do that). But he's still the most highly proclaimed prospect since Peyton and Elway and some one you can't pass on IMO. Yes, the scenario I want to see the most is a healthy Peyton Manning leading the Colts back to the playoffs and maybe Super Bowl where they belong, but it just might not play out that way. So no, I don't think people are throwing 18 under the bus. They're just preparing themselves for the realization than he may not be here next year.

  11. "The offense Arians ran in Pittsburgh was similar to the one the Colts have used since they drafted Peyton. It is extremely pass-heavy. Anyone wishing that Pagano was going to install a run-heavy offense just had had their hopes dynamited with C-4. Arians loves to throw, throw, and throw some more."

That's from an article on StampedeBlue.

    http://www.stampedeblue.com/2012/1/28/2754887/report-colts-hire-former-steelers-coach-bruce-arians-as-their

If this is true, I would expect the same here with either QB. If our O-line plays up to potential and we pick up someone in free agency or draft who can make an immediate impact, I don't see why Arians wouldn't bring that pass first offense. Gives the passer more time than Ben had in Pittsburgh and, assuming Luck is starting, he's very mobile anyway. Arians made his money off a mobile QB.

  12. Hey look, I'm in high school. I became a Colts fan during the Manning era and I still believe it would be smartest to let him go. As said in the OP, Manning is my idol also. Any time my friends start talking about their Jets or Giants here in NY, I immediately bring up Peyton and the Colts lol. It would kill me to see PM go, but as Irsay had said, no one man is bigger than the Horseshoe. The cap hit would be astronomical and the future would be brighter with Luck (most likely) starting from day one.
