  1. They really need to get over it already. It's been almost 30 years. And they have a team again. And both the Ravens and Colts have established themselves in their respective cities, having won championships there, and built new stadiums, etc. It's done. Move on!

  2. Yea and in that same article he was down and out, but I heard from other media sources that he was actually up beat...I would like to hear the interview myself. And make my own call.

Kravitz said he was more upbeat than he's ever been.

  3. You guys realize Peyton still has 4 years left on his contract? You think Luck wants to sit that long? heck I don't even want him sitting that long, even as much as I love Peyton. I'd rather just avoid the drama and go one way or the other, not both guys. Honestly if I'm Luck I refuse to sign with the Colts if Peyton gets his extension.

  4. When it comes down to it, all that matters is the entire resume. No one cares whether you played in a dome or whether you had a crappy defense all those years. No one will remember that stuff except the die hard fans. What it will come down to when determining the best QB is the overall resume.

Right now Tom Brady has a better overall resume than Peyton Manning. I am not going to be a homer and play what if games with Manning being on other potential teams or if he had a defense or not.

If Brady wins this 4th SB, it will be extremely hard to make a case for Manning as the better QB. The rings argument doesn't work anymore because alongside his 4th potential ring, Brady will have the stats behind him unlike Bradshaw. You do not throw for 50 TDs and 5k+ yards if you are a 'Bradshaw' type of quarterback. Those are Marino type of numbers with Montana like results. Even Joe Montana who is regarded as the G.O.A.T amongst many doesn't have very good career stats or individual stats. His 4-0 record, incredible SB QB Rating and playoff QB rating is what set him apart. He did this all in the 80's. He didn't have any 50 TD seasons.

The only thing Brady winning a 4th SB would show is that the Patriots are a great team.

Seriously, does anybody look at the game of football as 1v1? Because it sure seems that way. I can somewhat understand that aspect in basketball, but in football? 22 players on the field at once? I know the QB is the most important position but there are SO many variables to just one single play, let alone a whole game, that it's literally impossible for anyone to definitively say who is the best player.

Let me throw this aspect at you. Who has been the better team from 2001-2011, the Colts or Patriots? The answer is obvious. Patriots. So why is it that this angle works for the team, but when someone uses the team argument for Peyton it doesn't work? Brady and Manning are not that far off. Every football coach on the planet would take either one of those guys. So considering how close they are talent wise, why is it that one player has 2 more rings and is on the verge of having 3 more? Are you really going to say it's because one player is so much worse in the Playoffs than the other? Statistics prove that false. Again, Brady has not been Mr. Clutch or the 2nd coming of Jesus in the Playoffs. He won a freaking Super Bowl with a total of 145 yards passing. He's been FAR more of a game manager in the Playoffs than people realize. Not that Peyton is an outstanding Playoff performer either, because he's had his off moments too, but the point is that when he has a bad game or throws a pick it's much more costly to the Colts than it is to the Pats when Brady does the same.

  5. Like I said earlier..homers will be homers as though Peyton always plays stellar in the playoffs and we lose for other reasons.

    2002 - lose 41-0 manning 137 yrds passing

    2003- lose 24-14 manning picked 4 times

2004 lose 20-3 greatest offense of the season puts up 3 points? I don't care how good the D is you gotta score.

2005 lose 21-18 if you watched the game the Steelers dominated. We needed a bad call on the Palomalu interception and a Bettis fumble from the colts 2 just to have the vandershank chance

    2006 - yay

2007 -bolts just too much. Pats would have been way too much for our D anyway.

    2008 - same - sproles!

2009 - New Orleans was just better all the way around - nothing to do with resting players

2010 - Maybe Manning makes one more 1st down at the end and we can run out the clock and kick the winner..or would've been nice for the special teams to show up on the last kickoff. Either way Caldwell's TO had little to do with it.

OK, now let's look at Brady.

2001 - wins the Super Bowl with 145 passing yards. This against one of the best offenses the NFL has ever seen in the Rams. Let's also not forget it took "The Tuck Rule" against the Raiders to even get to the Super Bowl.

2003 - I will give him the Super Bowl, but he played pretty freakin average in the divisional and championship games

2004 - Again average in the first two games, but played decent enough in the Super Bowl.

2005 - Terrible. Throws 2 picks and one game ending one to Champ Bailey

2006 - Same as 05. Throws an INT to end the season. Also beat the Chargers with 3 interceptions because of his D.

2007 - Put up 14 points in the Super Bowl after having the best offense the NFL has ever seen(at least when Peyton put up 3 at NE it was snowing, this was in a dome and a neutral field).

2009 - Another terrible game. 49.1 qb rating. 154 passing yards with 3 picks.

2010 - Lost to the Jets at home where earlier in the year the Pats beat them in that same stadium by like 40.

2011 - Advances to his 5th Super Bowl after being invisible for most of the game. 2 picks. Did nothing all game except hand the ball off and fail to convert a 3rd down that would've won the game.

There is no way anyone can definitively say Brady is better than Peyton in the Playoffs, or that Brady is "the clutchest QB ever". This whole thing that Brady is clutch is such a myth. How many times has he had to rally his team for the win? He's been such a game manager in the vast majority of his Playoff wins. And it's not like Peyton doesn't have signature games. The comeback against NE and game winning drive. And his dominant performance + comeback against the best defense in the league in the Jets in 09. Beating the Chiefs at Arrowhead in 03. etc.

Also, Peyton is actually better statistically, except for TD's. Brady has played in 2 more Playoff games and Peyton has almost 400 more yards. Better completion percentage and much better yards per catch average. The difference is the Colts defense and run game sucks. Peyton IS the Colts and has always been the Colts. He has to carry his team far more than any QB to ever play the game had to. There's a reason he has 4 MVP's.

I'm not here to say that Peyton is the greatest Playoff performer ever. All I'm saying is there are a lot of games in which Brady, and really a lot of great QB's, has put up similar statistics, or failed to do things in similar situations(like not converting that 3rd down yesterday) but won the game instead of lost like Peyton. The difference is the team and coaching staff around each player.

I mean, seriously, does anyone think the Colts would win a Super Bowl with 145 passing yards? lol!

  6. Baltimore beat NE two years IN New England 34-13 in the Wild Card round, I'm not sure why anyone thinks they can't beat the Pats in NE again. It's pretty much the same matchup. I honestly expect Baltimore to win, if they get past Houston tomorrow. The Ravens D is good enough to contain the Patriots and hold them to a respectable score. And the Ravens offense shouldn't have much trouble against that defense.

  7. For one thing, im convinvced it is broken. Also, There is no way they would fire Caldwell as HC and make him the OC.

Secondly, Caldwell did not take the team to the super bowl and everybody knows that. It was Manning and that is 100% obvious. Caldwell, however did lose the superbowl. I know Caldwell supporters hate that argument, but I honestly do not care. Its the truth and anybody that denies it, simply does not live in reality. Yet, the same people will say "If Manning was playing this yr. we would have won 10+ games and made the playoffs", so you tell who is the real reason why this team has been successful. Here's a clue, it has nothing to do with Caldwell.

Lastly, Im not convinced at all that Manning will even be a part of the team next season, I know many Colts fans can't face that as a possibility, but it certainly is, so keeping Caldwell wont have any effect on offensive upheaval(as you say). That almost is comical because caldwell without doubt does not have that kind of influence.

So how is it Caldwells fault that Peyton threw a pick 6? You do remember it was 24-17, Saints lead, late in the 4th and the Colts were driving for a tying score before Peyton got happy feet and saw pressure and forced a pass that wasn't there, right? HE was the reason we lost, not Caldwell. Yeah, I know, how dare I criticize our beloved Peyton. I'll probably get flamed for it, but I couldn't care less. Colts fans can't accept the fact that Peyton Manning lost us the Super Bowl so they blame it on Caldwell. OK.

  8. The problem is who are we going to hire in his replacement? Fisher is out. Gruden has repeatedly said he's staying in broadcasting. What other proven coach is there? Marty Schottenheimer? Oh yay put a coach who can't win Playoff games on a team that struggles in Playoff games. That's a good fit, lol. Seriously though, Schottenheimer is 68 and I'd definitely rather have someone younger.

There just aren't many quality candidates out there right now. We'd almost certainly have to go with an unproven coordinator. At least Caldwell HAS proved he can win. Regardless of what we think of him, he coached a team to the Super Bowl two years ago and he's a pick 6 away from being a Super Bowl winning head coach, think about that. Come up with any excuse you want, how he was carried by Peyton, whatever, doesn't matter. He was still the head coach of a Super Bowl runner up in his first year.

  9. The guys you're talking about re-signing are old in in the twilight of their careers. When you're getting old in the NFL there is a big difference between 2009 and 2012. That would be a heck of a gamble too. If we didn't win the SB in the next couple of years Peyton will be gone and so will all those guys. And we may have passed on the next QB face of the league. Time to build a great YOUNG core NOW. People talked about our window closing years ago. I think it has already closed on this group. Time to open up a new window.

Mathis is 30 years old. I would hardly consider that old or in the twilight of his career. Saturday, I definitely agree there. But we have no other option at center and I don't think whatever deal he wants would cost us that much. And Wayne, he's still playing at a high level. 75 catches and almost a 1000 yards with Collins, Painter, and Orlovsky. He still has several years of production left in him. That said, I wouldn't mind it at all if we let Wayne go and picked up Blackmon or Floyd in the draft. I definitely think we should re-sign Mathis, though. Still in his prime and giving away one of our pass rushers would hurt our defense immensely.

  10. I totally disagree about a SB chance. Did you watch the team this year? It would take too long to rebuild that fast. As Irsay said in the presser we are in rebuilding mode. Peyton would have a much better chance at another SB by going to a current playoff team with an average QB.(SF or Baltimore for example)

This team still has a lot of the 09 team left. It's pretty much the same exact core group of players. I don't see any reason why we shouldn't consider rebuilding with Peyton. If he is cleared to play and we have confidence he can play at a high level why not? As good as Luck is, and as much as I don't think it will happen, he COULD bust. Think about that. What if we let Peyton go and he proves everyone wrong like he probably will and Luck comes to Indy and completely flops. That would be a disaster. At least, health aside, we know what we have in Peyton. Either way you are risking something, but I think you have to look at what is more of a risk. Letting go of Peyton and hoping Luck is the next great or trading Luck and hoping Peyton returns to form. I don't know the answer to that, but I think if Peyton is cleared to play and the doctors feel confident about it, it really isn't a terrible alternative to trade the pick and move forward with Manning. Like I said, this is still the 09 team. Re-sign Saturday and Wayne and offensively you have literally the same group of players + Ijalana will be back. Defensively it's the same thing. Re-sign Mathis, Nevis and Brackett and Powers will be back and you have almost the same group there too(plus Angerer).

  11. Irsay has been on record multiple times saying if Peyton is healthy he will be back. I don't think the decision on the Polian's being fired had anything to do with Peyton. I think it was more of a you're not doing your job issue. Irsay saw the lack of talent on this team. Without Manning they are nothing and that was blatantly obvious this year. To me that's a big reason why Jim Caldwell still has his job. A coach can only do so much. Management has to give him the players, and they simply haven't done that since probably 2006.

  12. Why, oh why do so many people think Jeff Fisher is a good coach? He's a 50 percenter! His record is 142/120! And Gruden? Irsay? You hire Jon Gruden..... I'm DONE as a Colts fan! Grudens record is 95/81. ANOTHER 50 percenter. ONLY reason Gruden has a ring is because he rode Tony Dungy's team into California. As soon as Jon started making changes, the team tanked.

Irsay needs to go to coach Dungy's house and throw obscene amounts of cash at Tony. Get that man BACK! Dungy's record? 139/69. He was 85/27 in Indy..... the man won 75% of his games in Indy! THAT is a coach.

Jim? Go get Tony back. Thats what I want.... I want to read that you were arrested throwing stacks and stacks of money at the coach. Go make this right.

You realize when Dungy was in Tampa Bay he was just as mediocre as Fisher and Gruden. 54-42. There was a reason TB fired him. His success in Indy came because of Peyton Manning. I'm not going to say Dungy is a bad coach, but the point I'm making is that coaches need players. What would Belichick be without Brady? What would Bill Walsh have been without Montana? Phil Jackson without Jordan/Shaq/Kobe? Every coach needs players to succeed. Even Jim Caldwell is 24-6(not counting the 2 losses at the end of '09, should actually be 26-6) with Peyton which is right on stride with Dungy's career in Indy.

Everyone wants to rip Fisher and talk about how overrated he is because of his record, but what players did he have? He took freaking Vince Young and an old Kerry Collins to the Playoffs. He was great when Steve McNair was there. I don't know, I like Jeff Fisher and really don't understand why people call him overrated. His teams were very rarely terrible and they were always well coached. He just didn't have the talent there for the most part, and when he did he was successful.

  13. If the Colts draft Luck, I think it is inevitable that Peyton does not finish his career in Indy, unless he retires early. He will be traded in my opinion. If healthy, he can play for another 4-5 more years. It would be absurd to sit Luck for that long.

  14. Tebow made the alternate team, though. lol.

Not surprised Freeney got in. He's the most popular DE in the AFC. Definitely disappointed McAfee and Angerer didn't get in, but we're 2-13.. how many people even know who they are? lol

  15. I've thought about it a lot and honestly, what legitimate reasoning do we have to say that he should be fired? Because he's 2-13? Yeah, but without Peyton Manning. Look at the talent on this team. It really isn't that good. Our secondary is terrible. Gary Brackett has been out all year. We're still small on the D-line. Our defense is only decent when we have the lead, which we haven't had that a lot this year. And the offense revolves completely around Peyton Manning. I'm not sure what people expected out of the offense this year, but I expected exactly what we've seen. There are a lot of holes on this team that Peyton covered and without him they've been exposed.

Why isn't Polian's name being brought up? He should get just as much blame. He has drafted horribly the last 7-8 years. We haven't had a good first round pick since Dallas Clark. And aside from Angerer, who is our last good 2nd round pick?? Anyone remember? It was Bob Sanders in 04. For a team that builds through the draft, they sure have done a terrible job at it. And it has clearly put us in a hole. Nothing but aging talent on this team.

We can sit here and speculate that Caldwell doesn't know what he's doing based on how he looks on the sidelines, how he answers every question post game with cliche responses, etc. but at the end of the day what do we have to go off of? I don't know how anyone can blame him for the SB loss. He's not the one that threw a pick 6. I will concede that Caldwell's timeout last year was a terrible one, but you know what.. every coach has their moments. All I know is that I've yet to hear anyone talk bad about Caldwell except fans. Everyone on the 'inside' that talks about him praises him and says how good of a coach he is. Steve Mariucci on Thursday night said he's a great coach and shouldn't be fired. Bethea said the same thing. Clearly our players like him and play hard for him.
