Can't play worse than Trevor.....qb situation in Denver is a nightmare. If he takes care of the ball he should be alright. He at least has some chemistry with the guys.

Trust me as a Houston fan, he can and will.

  2. There is a simple gameplan to beat the Jags, may or may not work but, run the ball on them because their pass D is ridiculously good.  Put 8 or 9 in the box and force Bortles to beat you.  Easier said then done but the book is out on them.

  3. Watson is the real deal, his best asset is his composure followed by his work ethic.  That is what will make him a good pro for the long run.  Also Prescott is still playing some good ball

    4Int
93.1  Rating, those numbers are still very good.
  4. Fournette won't translate to the NFL as well as Zeke.  He is big and fast in a league where everybody is big and fast.  He doesn't have the elusiveness to be as effective with the big boys.  He was just so physically dominant in college I don't know if he can count on the same in the pros.  Lastly even if he is effective he is gonna be worn down,  You saw it last year with him missing 3 games.  He isn't elusive so he will get hit, over and over by bigger faster guys add in the extra games.   He will miss games eventually, and this isn't even talking about his O-line, QB situation.  Typical Jags move.

It's no exaggeration. They are in borderline cap hell and are already shedding defensive players to stay under the cap. They don't have a first or second round pick next year, which means they will have extremely limited influx of young talent to replace those expensive dudes they can't pay for. If Watson isn't THE guy, then the entire roster has to be blown up and you start from scratch, as it's reaching the point where the window is shutting quick due to age, money, and no draft picks to supplement either.

They've traded Ossweiler, 2 1st rounders, and a 2nd rounder for Watson. They've bet the farm on him. This is essentially Rick Smith's final gambit.

The Texans have 70 Mil in cap space for 2018, and with some obvious cuts (Cushing) they will have 80+ next year.  They gave up next year's first to get Watson, not sure how that is a huge gamble, the pick will probably be in the late teens -20s.  Next year's 2nd brought in another 16M from OS, easily enough to sign a starter or two and a completely different transaction not part of Watson trade.  In fact if you look at the value chart they gave up little.  They aren't shedding defensive players, they aren't overpaying for a fourth corner or signing a 32 year old safety to a 6M or a oft injured OLB to a big deal.  Because they let the players walk, they'll be getting multiple compensatory picks in 2018 including a 3rd for Bouye.

All in all the Texans are poised to sign Hopkins and Clowney and still be able to make a big run at multiple FA next year and have enough comp picks to help fill in the gap between losing the 1 and 2.  They are in very good shape going forward cap and personnel wise.

Yeh, I hope they get the best of Luck. Andrew, that is.

I like the mock draft though. Doubling down on edge rushers with the first two picks. Would maybe like a corner earlier but can live with it to get guys those two guys on the edge. If Kamara fell to the third it would be great. He is electric and would be deadly in our offense.

    Thanks for sharing.

Yeah I was surprise Harris was on the board, a lot of the corners I liked were gone and it seemed that Harris was to good to pass up. Harris seems to be building momentum going through the process, I guess the knock on him is height but that never stopped Freeney.

  7. Thanks,

Here it is, seems to me the DB's really flew off the boards.  That is why I was able to snatch Harris in the 2nd.  I definitely thought the Colts had to add as much pass rush as possible.  I wanted Barnett with the first pick but he went one pick before to Philly.  You have a point there, I think if your team needs X, you will have a much more intimate knowledge of it versus a team that doesn't.  For instance in our draft the top 3 tackles were gone before 25.

  8. Hello,

Texan fan here.  We run a mock draft every year with posters being GM's for each of the 32 teams.  I had the pleasure of being the Colts this year, here is what I got for the team.

    1st  Takkarist McKinley UNC Edge

    2nd  Charles Harris   Mizzou Edge

    3rd  Alvin Kamara  Tenn RB

    4th  Tedric Thompson  Colorado S

    4th Blair Brown Ohio ILB

4th Damontae Kazzee San Diego State, CB

    5th Tanzel Smart Tulane DT

First and foremost I wanted to supply a sorely needed pass rush, grabbing Mckinley and Harris.  Next add more weapons on offense with a 3 down back with explosiveness in Kamara.  After that I looked to add defensive players at each level.  Thompson and Kazee will add good depth and should be able to contribute right away in the secondary.  Brown add a much needed young ILB, Smart gives some DL depth.   One thing that jumps out at me is the 3 4th rounders will give the Colts a chance to build quicker through the draft.

  9. Flacco isn't even in the conversation IMO, he's a game manager, who had one good 4 game run to the title.   Eli has physical tools but put into perspective, ELI never had a passer rating higher than 93.6 and routinely in the high 80's and even as low as 70.  Luck's 2014 is better than any year Eli has ever had as a pro. AL makes way more plays with his feet.  Stafford is underrated IMO at least last season he was, but he had a very mediocre bad run there for 3 years.  He might be in the conversation if he can repeat what he did last year, I still  think AL can make more plays with his feet though which separates him.  Blake Bortles is laugable.  He is over hyped because of his great Fantasy Football game.  Look at it closer,  BB is 0-17 when he throws for 300 yards or more, he has a whopping 3 first quarter TD's in his career, a garbage time stat guy.   Too early for those other guys (Winton, Mariota, Carr), although only Mariota can ever be able to make plays with his feet like Luck, and he has already shown that if he does he's gonna get hurt.

  10. How many guys can argue are better than AL?  I can only name 7 guys that you could argue.

    Rodgers

    Brady

    Brees

    Roethlisberger

    Newton

    Wilson

    Palmer

I personally like him better than Brees,Wilson, Palmer, and Newton, but I can see how someone could argue the other way.  So if we look at worse, the guy is the 8th best QB in the league. He is still young, Brady, Brees, Rodgers, Palmer hadn't peaked at this point in their career, and his physical tools are better than the lot of them sans Cam Newton.

Look at the roster, and although most here rate the WR corps very high, I think they are above average but not spectacular.  Ty Hilton is very good,  the outside guys are good but they are low end WR1-midWR2 guys.  They RB situation is mediocre, the TE situation the same. O-line I think has been solid this year, but during his career they were pretty sub par.  You think if these guys were on a team with an average QB, you would even know their names? (other than TY)  seriously,  Luck makes these guys look better.  Imagine if the colts had a real High end WR1 (Bryant, Thomas, Marshall, Brown, Green, Jones, Hopkins, ODB, Jeffrey, Nelson, Watkins, Evans) and TY and a solid run game or if they had an O-line comparable to the cowboys.  They would have the best O in the league.

This is madness, the best thing about the team is AL, yet pointing at him and saying well he should be damn near perfect, if he was we would be winning is crazy.  Its like in the NBA when a team loses and people blame it on the star player even when he plays well, yeah if he was michael jordan they would have won, but if those other guys were just slightly better than adequate they would have won as well.  I know AL is the focal point of the team, but blaming him for its state is crazy when so many other aspects of this team leave much to be desired.

  11. Good god what a bunch of ingrates!  As a Texan fan, I would give my left nut to have AL as my qb.  Good grief, they were in a position to drive the field and win the game, who's to say that wouldn't have happened if Miller doesn't make an amazing play.  Yeah the pick 6 was bad, but it was more of an amazing play than a brain fart by Luck.  You guys are sitting here p!ssing and moaning, and have no idea what an actual mediocre who can't win without a top ten D look like.  Do the Colts have a top ten D?  No, and they could have won today if they score a TD on that drive.  Arm strength are you guys kidding me?  Reading defenses are you kidding me too? Yes he holds the ball too long at times, and he takes chances, but the INT's are not because he isn't reading the D or going through his progressions, its because he is a risk taker and a gunslinger type, he definitely is not confused.  Good lord, I swear bring up all the bad, and the pick 6.   But what about all those rushers he evaded left and right in the second half, he was pulling hoodinis left and right out there for a couple of those drives.  And as bad as the pick was what about the 3 and 20 run he had?????   No one is talking about that.  you guys don't know what you have in him, he is damn good, way better than Eli ever was.  No he isn't Brady or Rodgers, but who is??  He is damn good probably top 5 in the league, and all these posters are whining left and right about this or that, it amazes me, seriously how spoiled some are.

I am firmly convinced that the majority of pundits nowadays know even less about any one team than the fans of that team.  They don't have the time to study each team and get to know them, so they rely primarily on the "general feeling" floating around about each team's strengths and weaknesses echoed by the social media and the internet bloggers.

Just saying the Oline was bad showed he had no real clue about this game.

Its just laziness,  If you are a professional analyst I think at a minimum you should watch all the games on rewind.  Seriously each of them is like a half hour or less.   Seriously if you want to actually know what your talking about you should watch the All 22 film of every game.  Its like what maybe 16 hours all together, where's the dedication?

I totally agree, the pundits just mindlessly repeat what the 15 second take is of a team despite the fact that the NFL is in constant flux, NOT FOR LONG right, teams change drastically from the beginning of the season to the end and even more after an off season.  The O-line played great yesterday, if this guy had watched the game it would have been obvious.  Luck didn't do it offensively on his own by any means.  But that doesn't fit the narrative of sheer incompetence sans Luck, so no can do.   But is it asking too much to actually watch the games?

  13. Quarterback grade: Andrew Luck, 96.0

Luck shows no sign of last year’s struggles as he finishes as this week’s highest-graded QB

What a performance by Andrew Luck that was wasted in a loss. Luck was executing high-level throws all afternoon, picking apart the Lions’ pass coverage with ease. Luck was incredibly effective when throwing deep down the middle of the field, where he completed 11-of-13 passes for 203 yards and three touchdowns on passes at least 10 yards downfield. Luck didn’t force any passes or make any real poor decisions all game. He was making every throw he needed to, and was able to march his team down the field consistently. After a tough season last year for Luck, this incredible performance bodes well for the Colts going forward.

    luck

    Top offensive grades:

    QB Andrew Luck, 96.0

    C Ryan Kelly, 79.3

    WR T.Y. Hilton, 78.6

    LT Anthony Castonzo, 78.0

    RG Denzelle Good, 75.6

Strong offensive line play allows Luck to go to work

One of the reasons for Luck’s struggles last season could have been poor offensive line play, which caused him to constantly worry about pressure and affect his play. That wasn’t the case today, as the unit played very strong against a very good Lions’ defensive line. The Colts offensive line allowed just one sack and seven total pressures on 51 passing plays. That pass-blocking efficiency of 89.2 ranks fourth among all teams that have played so far this week. The left side duo of LT Anthony Castonzo and LG Jack Mewhort was particularly strong, allowing just one hit and one hurry combined.

    Top defensive grades:

    CB Antonio Cromartie, 81.2

    S Mike C. Adams, 81.0

    ED Trent Cole, 77.8

    S T.J. Green, 72.8

    LB Sio Moore, 72.6

Colts front seven disappoints, as they fail to do much of anything against Lions’ offense

Aside from OLB Trent Cole, who impressed with a QB hit and three other hurries in a strong pass-rushing effort, this was a less-than-ideal performance from the Colts’ front seven. Aside from Cole, the unit combined for a mere one sack, three hits and two hurries. They let Stafford sit in the pocket with time, which forced their secondary to cover for much longer than they should’ve had to. Against the run they fared no better, as the Lions were able to open up big holes all game long and run through them at will. With such a strong offensive unit, the Colts just need their front seven to improve a little bit, as just one big stop would have been enough to come up with a win today.

  14. Luck might be a "slow starter" sometimes, but put it in perspective, after punting the first 3 drives.  They score 6 of 7 of the next possessions with 4 td's.  There is not a team who wouldn't take that overall performance everyday of the week and twice on Sunday.  He was downright phenomenal, this is not on him. He protected the ball and himself yesterday, if he continues to to do that, he will be the best in the league.  As for the coaching etc, it is what it is, Pagano to me at least from an outside perspective, in game is mediocre.  He reminds me of some of the things that would happen under Kubiak.  They would have one bad half one great half lots of times and there would be some questionable decisions here are there.  But Kubiak won a superbowl, there is no reason Pagano cannot in the right situation, but expecting him to be BB or Arians or one of the other Top tier coaches isn't fair, he is what he is.

I'd love to hear the reasons why Luck isn't going to live up to expectations.

I think there a few things that could possibly keep him from living up to expectations, they somewhat tie in together.  The first is health, he has taken a pounding year in and year out.  If he starts to consistently miss games or develops a chronic condition (shoulder, neck) it could limit him from reaching his potential.   The 2nd things is he has a few bad habits that he needs to shake,  the first bad habit ties into the injuries.  He holds the ball too long plain and simple, he needs to choose to throw the ball away more times after he goes through his projections, this is tough because he can really do damage when the play breaks down so its hard especially given his ability and confidence for him to do this.  However he just cannot continue to get hit this much year in year out, nobody can take that much punishment without either missing games or having injuries adversely affect their ability.   The 2nd bad habit are the INT's, he has to cut down on them, especially when he throws them in bunches, he seemed to have a handle on them in 13' and 14', but last year it was a concern again.  He has to keep his int% down below 2 consistently year in year out.  Luck is just such a competitor though and its hard to tell a guy to dial it back some and not take as many chances, because a lot of it is what makes him so good.   But from what I see if he doesn't get better in these areas, he won't reach his potential of being the best QB in the league.

  16. Hits on Luck (Wilson)  and keep in mind these are while passing, not including running the ball and taking hits downfield,

    Rodgers 2-5th year, dont have stats for 08,  93, 67, 73, 85

Through 3 seasons,  Luck has taken more 99 hits than Rodgers in AR's 2-4th year,  83 more hits as a passer than Wilson, who gets hit alot behind that questionable o-line.  Roughly a full season for a QB that gets hit more than 2/3 the league.  Not only has Luck been asked to shoulder the load, he has took sever punishment in the process.  Some of that is on him for holding the ball.  Doesn't seem sustainable in the long term, Luck can't continue to be near the top of the most hit qb's every year and still be able to be expected to throw this much.

  17. Reason for optimism ANDREW LUCK!

Best in the division ? he had 1 win more than the Colts in our off year & the Colts  11-5 the prior year IMO that hardly makes him the best when the Colts sucked he's 1 game better .

The Texans have been better than the Colts only when Manning was injured 2011 & Luck was injured 2015 outside of that they were owned . There defense has always been pretty good the only difference now is a new QB who had 7 starts & I believe 11 Td's  he's proved nothing he's just another over hyped QB .

When Peyton Manning started in 98 it took him several years to just reach the playoffs Luck did it each year going further each year until injury I expect great things in his future & very lil from Osweiler ,

The Texans are not the team that will give the Colts real problems it will be the Jags & Titans but having Andrew Luck & the receivers we now have I believe we have a good chance just as good as if it were Peyton Manning out there , Yes the line has been an issue yes running the ball has been an issue , nothing new there it has been for a long time yet we find ways to WIN .

We watched Captain Comeback & the Cardiac Colts do some unbelievable stuff we watched Peyton Manning take our team after several failed attempts to the playoffs & Andrew Luck has from day one,The Colts  performed really good with him,  without him 8-8 we are on the path that we were once on with 18 , 12 will get-r-done believe in the blue you won't be disappointed the Colts will start out as the underdog & finish the season as the TOP DOG .

Don't forget 2012, 3 of 5 south titles.  Half the people here wanted Pagano gone last year.  thats not the point,  Obrien runs a tighter ship, the team plays much more disciplined, and the team didn't fall apart when several qbs went down.  Completely different teams between luck and Peyton during the good years.  It remains to be seen whether Pagano and Luck etc are Manning and Dungy or Manning and Mora

What are you using to gauge 'a good coach'? Pagano has a better record than him, so how are you working out he is better? Just curious.....

I would say good in that both years the team has overachieved expectations especially considering the qb situation, having a winning record with what 7 different qb's? no small feat.  I know the defense is very good, but O'Brien has and staff have schemed their * off frankly to cover up the qb deficiencies.  Also I would throw in that under O'Brien over the last two seasons, the team plays very disciplined football.  Limits the stupid mistakes, the turnovers, the penalties,  +17 in the TO ratio in his two years.  Just from the outside the team seems to be focused and on the same page.  There's usually a clear direction and things are done a certain way.   Its hard to say that since Arians left Pagano has over achieved, I think a lot would argue the opposite.  I think the players love him. However, the teams just doesn't seem to be as disciplined in their play and their doesn't seem to be a clear direction all the time. -10 in the TO ratio the last two years.  You can't lay it all on Pagano of course.  That's just the kinda sense I get from afar.  Its more than record its getting the most out of the team,  keeping the play disciplined and minimizing the unforced errors.

  20. I think lost in all this is that O'Brien is a good coach.  Probably the best in the division.  Going 9-7 the last two years shows he can coach up a team and over achieve.  I think he makes the difference.  Osweiller really doesn't have to be that good, add in the group of skill position players and the increased speed on that side of the ball, O'Brien will get more production on that side of the ball than last year, that is why I think they are a pickem with the Colts this year for the division.

  21. Luck has as much upside as any quarterback in the league.  Whether he reaches it or not is up to him limiting his bad habits.  Holding the ball to long and forcing it in, is a problem with him  Its basically what separates him from the Bradys and Rodgers of the world.  Think the Colts line is bad, look at the Packers, and despite this Rodgers has been able to excel.  I would also add that if he doesn't start taking less hits, injuries are going to limit him as well.  No matter how big you are, if you are taking that many hits year in year out it will eventually cause you to miss games.
