  1. Well now Chudzinski is saving everyone's job. Except for Grigson. The team still has some glaring flaws, like a complete lack of pass rush, that falls directly on him. It was a great win, but the staff is just showing how good the team could be if they had better players to work with.

Getting rid of Grigson means getting rid of everyone - a new GM isn't playing someone else's hand... And that mostly would mean a new system. If Irsay fires Grigson, that means a rebuild; and we are TOO CLOSE for that.

I would recommend that they all stay and Irsay stays involved - so everyone works their responsibilities without building kingdoms for themselves. Do that, are we are close. Really close.

  2. <snip>Too much shifting on the O-line still.... Any O-line player will tell you the importance of continuity.

Maybe that is the point. Harrison HAS been playing. He played the last two games.

Maybe putting Holmes back in the mix was considered bad for the continuity they've been building. Putting Holmes in would have been a step backwards for a line that has been coming together?

  3. Humans need breaks. We perform better when we've had a chance to reset ourselves.

To address your post specifically, the players who are making the penalties and more decisions, probably need this time away MORE than they need more practice.

Working longer and harder doesn't always make teams better. Clearing their heads and reconnecting with things that are important to them outside of football can pay dividends.

And good leaders know this - in sports and not-in-sports.

  4. I can't answer your OP but I can say this, he is unchanged from series to series and from game to game BUT he IS changed from the third quarter to the fourth quarter and that is why I smell something bad. Stop and recall the past seasons when he was the "comeback kid". That is unchanged but he is no longer the comeback kid instead, he is getting hammered by everyone sports network in America. I am sick of hearing the word "injury". Bull! How can a physical injury suddenly disappear halfway through the fourth quarter against the Saints and Panthers? Someone, anyone answer that question. If you have a bum joint how does it suddenly disappear in the last 7-8 minutes of the game. Luck is a liar and so are his bosses. Luck was deadly in the last 7:20 minutes until he threw the int. to end the game. What happened-how did the miraculous recovery again surface to almost win the game? Again, Luck is a liar and the Colts need to be investigated and fined for lying.

None of us talk to Luck. All we know is what people report about him. They're called 'the media'. And sometimes, they are guessing. And other times, they just make things up. Just because he doesn't tell YOU his status, doesn't mean he is lying to anyone. Least of all, you or me.

  5. Even Dungy is complaining about the firing, but who cares. Going forward, if Luck continues to regress, then we can say it's him and not the system with Chad as OC.

Correct. When you are troubleshooting a problem, any problem, you remove a single piece and look at the results. If things don't get better, then you replace a different piece. If things do get better, you stop replacing pieces.

In this situation, this move by Irsay is ideal. You take out the least disruptive and least expensive piece in the system. This piece is the controller for the faults we've seen in the system. Offense is broken? Remove whatever was controlling the offense. If, however, you still have the same faults, then you remove whatever was controlling the controller -- that is, you test the system for the rest of the season and remove the head coach and replace with a new head coach.

Then, if they problem persists, you replace the master controller. You get a new GM after next year if all these intermediate fixes don't cure the root problem. The contracts are expiring for HC and GM - you don't even have to make decisions, you just don't renew contracts. Simple fix.

But if firing Pep does solve the problem, then you keep your HC and your GM. It means not upsetting and rebuilding the entire system again (new HC and GM would require re-tooling - and that has a huge cost if you consider the perishable years of Andrew Luck).

  6. Pags isn't calling the offense though.  Pep is.  Granted, I suppose he ought to be able to influence Pep, but the reality is that he then becomes a micromanager.  In the real world or any profession, a micromanager needs to step back and let his team of experts do their job.  Unfortunately so far, Pep seems to be far from an expert.

Holding subordinates accountable is not micromanagement.

The question becomes, based on 'some' stories we have been exposed to -- is PEP the subordinate of Chuck Pagano. Does chuck have the power to hold Pep accountable for his job performance?

  7. My opinion is that the Free Agent signings this year have served two functions:

    1. New starters for positions of need
    2. More flexibility for the draft

By filling the roster over the past month with capable (even if aging) free agents, Grigson has fewer glaring 'holes' for the present. There are holes, for sure, but these are holes for the 'future', not immediate needs to field a team. This gives him much more flexibility to draft BPA as the draft unfolds. It gives Grigson power he didn't otherwise have. And he did it without breaking the bank.

  8. "I didn't want anyone over 28". interesting comment by grigs. while its good to have a young core of players, you also deal with inexperience in certain situations in games and more often then not immaturity

...and that is what he learned. The hard way. With some of his young knuckleheads.

  9. Adults in the workplace call their supervisor when there is a family emergceny. Waitresses call the restaurant when they are going to miss work, no matter if they have the flu or their arm caught in the microwave. Construction workers call  the foreman. Warehouse workers call the HR hotline. Soldiers call their sergeant. EVERYONE in the world is expected to call their boss when they are going to miss work, no matter the reason. If that person is not incapacitated, they are expected to call. I bet Ryan Grigson is expected to call Jim Irsay if he has an emergency.

Trent Richardson is an adult. He would have been expected to make contact with someone to let me know that he chose to attend to his family's emergency instead of call work (the walkthrough for the AFC chanmpionship game, by the way -- not a wednesday practice, not ODAs, not just some day at the office, the AFCCG). With the proliferation of modern communications devices, he could have used his cell, used his girlfeind's cell, used the nruses phone, asked the Doctor to borrow his cell. A responsible adult would have found a way to call someone. That is how it is done in the real world.

There is no way this is on the Colts if, in fact, that is what occured with Trent Richardson. And if that is what occured, it seems to me that he would be in breech of contract for his no-call-no-show.

  10. This might be a silly question -- why not put a little bit of bulk on Richadson during the off season and play him as a Halfback? We like Halfbacks in our scheme and we like to throw to them from the backfield.

Richadson can catch, he can block, and he can run great for a halfback. He isn't performing well as a Fullback, but he has strengths. Imagine Boom and Trich on the field together?

  11. And in all fairness, at the time of the trade it seemed like a good idea. <snip>...

I was sooooo excited when we made the trade.

Then I was soooo excited for a fresh Trent to make his mark this year.

Then I was soooo excited to see the line grow so Trent could have a great year next year.

After this week, I am ready to move on. Its time.
