  1. If they're both good players and we want to keep them both, then I think we'll find a way to do so...

Just as NE signed both Gronk and Hernandez to very big contracts in the same off-season.    It can be done if you have the will to do so....

It will be difficult to do because it is during the same off-season that Luck, Hilton, Richardson, and Ballard are all coming off contract as well. So it's not like they are just re-signing Fleener and Allen. You've got at least two higher priority guys in Luck and HIlton.

  2. First....   my answer would be Allen,  and as people here know, I'm a Stanford fan.

Second....    I must say that I HATE threads like this.    They start fights, and over what?    A hypothetical question that we don't have to answer!

Who cares who is better?!    We have BOTH!    When used properly,  BOTH can be dangerous weapons and make our offense much harder to defend.

We should be happy that we have both.    Instead, people are ripping each other over a difference of opinion.

A complete waste of everyone's time!

Sorry....   not trying to rip the OP,  but somethings like this are just not worth it......

Well.. this question isn't necessary hypothetical. Their contracts will end at the same time, along with TY, Ballard, and Luck.  You really think we will have an option of bringing them both back by then?

While I think the exact question could be re-worded a bit, it is totally realistic to think we will have to choose one day. Not today.. and not tomorrow.. but one day this decision will most likely have to be made. Neither one of these TE's is trying to be second string so they will both play for that #1 spot and when it comes the time they will want #1 spot money.

I like Fleener a lot as a player. But I like what I saw from Allen his rookie year a ton more. I want to see Allen bounce back from this injury before I pick him though

  3. I don't understand why people want to wait until Reggie is gone to look for more depth at the position.. I would want Reggie's replacement WR(s) to spend as much time with him as possible. Reggie is not gifted with top-tier athletic ability.. he is amazing because of the way he reads defenses and runs his routes. He can teach these young guys countless things about both of those subjects and we can already see how much it has helped TY develop.  Just because we draft a young guy now doesn't mean he has to instantly fulfill a void.  If the WR we get now can step up and be ready to go because of the tutelage of Reggie after 1 or 2 years then it is completely worth it.

  4. I doubt we sign a WR this year. I think if anything it will be a draft pickup. The need is not immediate it is a future developing need.  I think Grigson and staff will be content finding a mid round guy to develop over the next 1-2 years.  Jared Abbrederis(Wisconsin) comes to mind as a guy who might be available..

  5. That's a matter of opinion. I don't believe we need a WR personally. I believe Rogers will end up being our number one, and we have Brazil and Whalen who performed well late in the season. I look for Rogers to really establish himself next year, he has all the talent and skill you want in your number one.

I like Rogers a lot too. Although I still would be fine taking a mid round pick on a WR that could step in when Reggie is gone.

I think Rogers needs as much playing time as possible.. He is just going to get better and better.

  6. 59

    DE CHRIS SMITH

    ARKANSAS

Would be a perfect fit at OLB or could bulk up into a DE in the 3-4

    90

    WR JARED ABBREDERIS

    WISCONSIN

The next Austin Collie. Minus the injuries

    154

    DT DEANDRE COLEMAN

    CALIFORNIA

This guy is a run stopper. Consistently dominated Travis Swanson on Senior Day and had a great showing.  Could be the answer at the nose

    187

    CB CHRIS DAVIS

    AUBURN

Not only would he be a solid nickel back his first year, he can easily take over the return duties for us. See Alabama-Auburn (2013)

    209

    JON HALAPIO

    FLORIDA

Solid guard that has shown he can be a solid contributor to an offensive line. Played through a torn pectoral at UF, that is toughness

    218

    RB DARRIN REEVES

    UAB

He's a little scatback that could fill the void at #3 on the depth chart. Has good speed for a back

  7. Why can't we just let Donald walk and keep Bradshaw as our third guy.

Because that is really only 2 1/2 guys. No faith at all in Bradshaw staying healthy.. everyone keeps saying he is solid and yea he is but he hasn't ever shown he can be healthy. And with Richardson doing what he did and Ballard coming back from ACL then we need a solid guy who can take a workload for a "just in case" scenario that Richardson doesn't pan out like everyone hopes

  8. Ehh you have to have a kicker on the roster too because he doubles as the backup punter.

Think of it this way.  You make Pat the kicker and the punter and he gets injured.  Then we have to try and finish a game with neither a kicker or a punter.

That said I would be ok with giving him some longer range shots that maybe Adam V doesn't have the leg for.  Assuming we re-sign him.

That is true. Maybe after Vinatieri retires we don't sign such a high profile kicker though. Just someone who could fill in in a pinch.

Pat (McAfee for those confused.. Seriously lets just quit talking about Angerer because he really isn't even worth coming up in conversation) may be unbreakable though. I mean the guy lays the wood

  9. The only FA that is a lock to be re-signed is Vontae Davis. The market will be high for him but Grigson gave up some draft picks to bring him here and he is high on him and won't let him walk away.  Plus Vontae wants to stay here.. I think he likes being close to his alma mater.

Naturally, I hope Pat is a lock too. And I'm all in favor of letting him try kicking and punting both. On Madden for my franchise team I made him Kicker and Punter and he has performed greatly for me so since it worked in madden it has to work in real life. *Sarcasm intended for those who take things a little too literally*

  10. Depends on what kind of salary he would command if we re-signed him.

From what I'm reading the cost of the 5th year option on Andrew Luck (Having been drafted in the top 10) would be the same as the transition tag.

Based on what I'm reading the transition tag for 2013 for a QB was 13 million.

So it really depends on if resigning/extending Luck would lead to a cap hit that was higher then 13 million in the first year of his non rookie deal.  If it's about the same or lower then we would just go ahead and re-sign him straight away.  If 13 million is significantly lower then they would likely exercise the 5th year option and get an extension done for several years after that.

I think Luck will have every right to demand a huge QB salary. He is the future and Grigson will pay him like it. He has already proven that he can make luckluster players around him not look so bad.

The big issue I see coming around is that Luck, Allen, Fleener, Hilton, Ballard, Richardson, and Mathis (I think..) will have expiring contracts in that same year.  Now I think it will be tough to keep all of them and Mathis may even be considering retirement by that time so I would think Grigson would try and get one of them re-signed early (i.e. Luck get an extension as soon as possible) so that we wouldn't have so many high profile FA's coming around at the same time.
