    RB GEORGE ATKINSON III

    NOTRE DAME

Here was my thinking.  Roby joins Davis, Butler, and Gordy as our corners.  This will give us some freedom with Toler.  I don't like the idea of the media circus that is going to accompany Sam but I dont feel it would be a major distraction with our locker room.  I see him as a pure rush linebacker.  It would be nice to let learn from one of the best.  Coleman would be a very good addition to our DE rotation.  I could see him taking over Redding after next season.  Bodine could push Holmes for the starting job (assuming Satale is cut) or at least be a very good back up.  Schofield provides depth at guard.  Atkinson III immediately takes over return duties.

  3. I would like to see the Colts use their last pick on George Atkinson III.  He has tons of big play ability.  The 2 major knocks on him are that he runs too high and he dances around too much in the back field.  With the right coaching both flaws are fixable.  What makes him worth a shot is his ability as a returner.  I think that is where he will make his living in the NFL and we have been searching for a return specialist for years now.

  4. Donald Thomas had a major injury with the Dolphins and Bradshaw couldn't practice much with the Giants because of his foot problems. I know Bradshaw injury could have happen to anyone but once you start having a bunch of injuries they usually never stop especially as you get older.

From what I can see Thomas has only had 2 major injuries in his professional career.  He suffered a Lisfranc fracture in his very first professional game in 2008 (he finished the game playing on a bad foot).  The other injury was the one this year.  I wouldnt call 2 injuries in 6 years injury prone.  I will give you Toler and Bradshaw but Thomas is a stretch.

  5. I would pick C and CB.  For the Center position I would look to sign Brian De La Puente from the Saints to a 4yr 24 million contract with a 4 million signing bonus.  That would be in line with the contract signed by Scott Wells in 2012.  As for Cornerback I would resign Davis to a 5yr 40 million contract with a 17.6 million signing bonus.  That is in line with the contract signed by Brandon Flowers in 2011.  I would also look to draft CB Pierre Desir in the 3rd round.

  6. For me it depends on how the draft plays out.  I think next year would be ideal strictly from a needs stand point but it would be nice to have an understudy for Wayne now.  I dont see us using our second round pick on a WR unless someone like Lee falls to us.  My favorite WR this year is TJ Jones from Notre Dame, who is flying well under the radar and could be had in the 5th or 6th depending on how well he performs at the combine.

  7. Absolutely. Just cut Walden and put what we save from him and put it towards Orakpo.

Walden isnt going anywhere this year.  Per spotrac his 2014 cap hit is 4.25 million and if he is cut the hit is 4.75 million.  Now if Im understanding the rule right he would still cost 4.25 million if cut after June 1st.  With those numbers we dont save any money so there is no really reason to cut him.  The dead money hit after this coming year would be 500k which makes it more likely to happen then.

  8. Lets just compare the 3-4 OLB drafted in the 1st round last year

    3- Dion Jordan  - 26 tackles- 2 sacks- 0 FF- 0 INT

    6- Barkevious Mingo - 42 tackles- 5 sacks- 0 FF- 0 INT

    17- Jarvis Jones -  40 tackles- 1 sack- 0 FF- 0 INT

    24- Bjoern Werner - 18 tackles - 2.5 sacks- 0  FF- 0 INT

When you look at the numbers Werner isn't too far off from the other guys.  Hell his numbers are very similar to that of Jordan's and he was drafted in the top 5.  We all knew our draft last year wasn't sexy.  3 of our 7 picks where used on trench players and another 3 picks were late round picks.  Out of 7 picks the last 2 years in rounds 6 and 7 only Brazill has made any kind of impact on the team.  You just cannot count on finding impact players in the 6th and 7th rounds.

    C TRAVIS SWANSON

    ARKANSAS

Swanson would be an up grade from Satele.  Regarded as one of the best centers in the draft.

    91

    S DION BAILEY

    USC

Bailey would be a possible replacement for Bethea (this year or next).  Bailey is a 3 year starter at USC and can play either safety position.

    153

    ILB LAMIN BARROW

    LSU

Barrow would be another ILB to play behind Freeman and McNary.  Barrow is versatile, can play inside and out.  He is also a solid tackler that does a good job wrapping up.

    WR T.J. JONES

    NOTRE DAME

A reliable WR runs very good route and has outstanding hands.

    CB PIERRE DESIR

    LINDENWOOD

Small school CB who will shoot up draft boards.  Very good cover skill.

  10. Since everyone is so quick to cut ties with Toler I just want to remind everyone how well our secondary played to start the season when he was healthy.  We need to put his injury in perspective, its not like he has been in and out with multiple injuries.  He has had 1 injury that has kept him on the sidelines.  I dont hear anyone calling for Wayne, Thomas, Allen or Ballard to be replaced becuse they are missing several games.  All we have been told is that it was a groin injury so we dont know just how serious it was.  I dont see Grison cutting Toler unless the injury lingers into next year.  I also want to point out that we only have 3 CBs under contract for next year (Toler, Butler and Price).  Gordy is a RFA and most likely will be back.  Thats 2 less than what we currently have on the roster.  With that said I do think we need another CB that can play in Dime packages and can move up if there is an injury.  I look for Davis to be back and either a Rookie or FA (someone like Darrin Walls) to be brought in.
