  1. Injuries have pretty much killed his career actually, I dont think he is anything great by any means but I think he is better then your giving him credit for, A good backup QB who can start and win you enough games to get in the playoffs, Example: Vick is also a backup....If I had to choose Vick or Cassel who are both on the wrong side of 30 I'd choose Cassel every time barring them both being healthy

    Oh, he's a great backup.

But Pioli gave him $60M to start, not be a backup.

  2. 54 games and 28 times I counted from NFL.com, 6 games of 300 yards or more

    LOL.  We're both wrong.

According to Pro Football Reference, he played 15 games in 2009, 15 games in 2010, 9 games in 2011, 9 games in 2012.  48 games.

I didn't bother to look at the under 200 yard games, but am still coming up with only 4 games of over 300 yards.

    1 in 2009

    2 in 2010

    1 in 2012

Regardless, the point stands.  He was trash.

  3. Trust someone who watched every game he played in KC:

Matt Cassel was hot garbage.  The ONE season he looked competent was in 2010, a season in which we played a strength of schedule around .390.  Not kidding.  And even then he only threw for 3100 yards.

Cassel played 51 games in KC, and threw for under 200 yards TWENTY FOUR times.

He threw for under 100 yards SEVEN times.  That's almost impossible in today's NFL where the rules are slanted towards the offense.

He had a whopping FOUR games over 300 yards in four years.

    The guy was trash.

  4. I didn't realize those players predated Pioli. For some reason, I thought he went to KC in 2006. Guess not. That changes a lot.

He was hired in January 2009.

    His first three major decisions?

    Hire Todd Haley.

Trade for Matt Cassel and give him $60M

Select Tyson Jackson with the 3rd overall pick.

    Fail, fail and fail.

  5. I think his eye for talent is very good. That KC team is 85% still the same players he picked out. The head coach and QB were changed and that made all the difference.

I think he'll get another gig in the NFL, but not with the Colts.

    Not even close.

There are 14 players still on the roster that Pioli is responsible for, and only three play a significant role - Poe, Houston and Berry.

And as I said in an earlier post, the core of the organization was brought in before Pioli arrived.

Charles, Bowe, Albert, D. Johnson, Flowers, Hali, Colquitt.

  6. I promise you, you want no part of Scott Pioli.  His tenure in KC was a disaster.

First, he didn't draft Jamaal Charles.  The overwhelming majority of good players in KC were there before Pioli arrived in Feburary 2009.

Charles, Bowe, Hali, Flowers, Derrick Johnson, Branden Albert.  The core of the team was already there.

His best player from the 2009 draft has been Ryan Succop.  Yeah, the kicker who was taken with the last pick of the draft.

He fell butt backwards into Eric Berry at 5th overall, then blew a R2 pick on Javier Arenas and Dexter McCluster with studs still on the board.

Our 1st round pick from 2011 is no longer with the team.  His draft record is brutal.  He's gotten value from two picks in four years - Justin Houston and Dontari Poe.

And that's just the draft record.  The guy came in and told the players they could no longer publilcise their charitable foundations.  He created a culture of distrust by bugging phones and forcing staff whose offices faced the practice field to close thier blinds during practice.  The media needed to ask permission to use the bathroom during press events. (purposely required a key card to access a room that previously was accessible to all)  The staff complained about being mentally abused.  The franchise was sued for age discrimination.

There was a stretch where we won 9 games in two years, and he was making a huge deal about finding a candy wrapper in a stairwell.  The guy wanted control of every little thing, 99% of which had nothing to do with winning football games.

I apologize if it's not OK to post links, but you should really read this.  It's just one of many articles between 2009-2012 that point out the negative culture Scott Pioli created in KC.

  7. Good thoughts. (By the way, when you hit 10 posts, I think the n00b restriction is lifted.)

You got a little bit of what Eagles fans complained about with Andy Reid for a long time. He often goes away from his playmaking backs -- McCoy, Westbrook, and now Charles -- for stretches, and it makes no sense. His situational coaching has long been a sore spot. But I think that the Colts defense starting hitting pretty well, shutting down the middle and keeping Charles from getting to the outside. And with a few three and outs, he didn't get a lot of chances. The Chiefs lost the possession battle almost 2:1, and you were down 2 scores late.

As for Smith, yeah, he's limited in a certain sense. That's why Harbaugh made the choice he made. I don't know if he was being risk-averse or not; haven't rewatched the game yet. But he definitely wasn't able to make anything happen for most of the game.

A rematch could go completely different, absolutely. But a few hours ago, the narrative was that the Colts simply couldn't hang with the Chiefs. http://espn.go.com/nfl/picks http://weeklypickem.fantasy.nfl.com/experts I don't care about all that, but this game proved that the Colts can handle this matchup, especially if the rematch is in Indy. No telling how the game goes, but it's certainly not the lopsided affair most people thought it was.

I certainly didn't think it would be a lopsided game.

I think KC is good but I really don't fear them. Yeah, they have the best RB in the league this year in Charles and their defense causes a lot of take aways.

But I would rather play KC in the playoffs than most of anyone making it into the post season.

No disrespect meant, but I think our fans feel the same way about you guys, even after yesterday. Personally, I want no part of Cincinnati or New England.

Should be a great game, should it actually happen.

  8. I get it. I don't think your offense was dialed in, for whatever reason (maybe because you were missing a couple linemen?) And your pass rush should improve when Justin Houston comes back. I was expecting him to play this week. And both teams would benefit from playing in a dome.

Last post before the n00b restriction sets in, so bear with me...

The only OL we were missing was starting LT Branden Albert.  But he's been out a few weeks and we've been fine.

The issue with the offense is one that hardcore Chiefs fans have argued about all season long - Alex Smith.  During the 9-0 run to begin the season, he was pretty brutal, but the team kept winning due to historic defensive and special teams play.  The biggest issue I had personally with the trade for Smith is his "play not to lose" instead of playing to win mentality.  He's risk-adverse, and it hurts the offense.  He regularly passes up an opportunity at a big play in favor of the checkdown.

Fast forward to a few weeks ago against San Diego - Smith starts pushing the ball downfield, and what do you know, we score 38.  The defense let us down that day, but we all saw what the offense could be.

Today, he regressed to "Bad Alex".  He made no effort to push the ball downfield, which makes it much easier for the defense when you only have to protect a 10 yard box from the line of scrimmage.  He also reverted back to his bad habit of staring at the rush, instead of keeping his eyes downfield.

It's certainly not ALL on Alex, but what "blame" is left can go to Andy Reid.  At one point late in the 3rd quarter, Jamaal Charles had NINE carries.

That's criminal, especially against a defense that has struggled against the run - no disrespect meant.

Anywho, I'm rooting for a Cincinnati win next week - really want a rematch.  I'm guessing we may have a bit of a chip on our shoulder should we get another shot.

  9. You are always welcome here, sir. Look forward to seeing you back here in a couple weeks.

Thanks, and don't take this the wrong way, but I hope we get another shot at you guys.

I think our best game versus your best game would be an excellent matchup and an entertaining game.

  10. Good game today, guys.  You dominated us in every facet of the game.  I mentioned yesterday in another thread that I was concerned about getting to Luck, and sure enough, we didn't.  I only remember one sack, and that came on a review.  That's not going to cut it against a great QB like Luck.

Hope the Redding injury isn't serious.

It's going to take a NE win today and a Cincinnati win next week to force a rematch at your place.

Good luck the rest of the way.

  11. We'll see.  As a KC fan, I certainly hope we can get pressure on Luck - you guys have the kind of WR's that give us fits.  Our DC is stubborn and refuses to roll with anything other than press-man coverage, and when we don't get pressure, we get carved up.

Even with "forcing" seven turnovers last week against Oakland, they still scored 31 points and McGloin threw for nearly 300 yards on only 18 completions.

    As I was saying...

I think we sacked Luck once today.  That's not going to cut it.

Good job today, hopefully the Redding injury isn't too serious.

  12. Chiefs fan here - and this is a question we've been asking ourselves all year.  Probably won't get an answer until the playoffs.

On one side of the argument, you can only play who you're scheduled.  No, we haven't really beat anyone, but our three losses were by a combined 20 points - two of those losses being to the best team (well, Manning) in the AFC.

One thing that makes me lean more towards the "legit" end of the spectrum is that we've beat who we were supposed to beat.  We haven't lost a game to a team that we should have beat/dominated.  We haven't had any "let-down" games.

The rest of the potential AFC playoff teams can't say that.  You guys got throttled by the Rams.  Baltimore lost to Buffalo, Cleveland and Pittsburgh.  New England lost to the Jets.  Cincinnati lost to Cleveland and Pittsburgh.  Miami lost to Buffalo and Tampa.

Due to your posting restrictions for n00bs, I won't be able to respond to this until later this afternoon - and we might have more answers then.  But personally, winning in the playoffs should be the measuring stick of this team.

Good luck today, fellas.  Stay healthy.

  13. Welcome to the forum, negativity flows like wine around here for a lot of people.  I hope for a good game tomorrow.  Best of luck to you guys, may the best team win.

The visiting team enters/exits out of the NW corner of LOS.  Their bench is actually along the east sideline though.  Getting tickets in the 148 section will put you right at the tunnel, the first 7-8 rows are along the tunnel with the remaining rows being behind the tunnel (there's a banner that covers the back area of the tunnel).  I will provide a link to a seating chart for the stadium so you can look it over.

    http://seatgeek.com/venues/lucas-oil-stadium/seating-chart/

Thanks for the info.  Need to decide if we want to be near that tunnel and sit low, with a not-so-great view when the play is at the other end - or sit a bit higher (no nosebleeds) where you can see the play develop.

Thanks again for the info, and good luck tomorrow - and in the playoffs if you're NOT facing us.  LOL

  14. Man, I thought Chiefs fans were negative about our defense as of late.  After reading some other threads, I think you guys win the "Battle of Negativity Towards a Position Group."

Bottom line, I think the Colts are a pretty darn good football team, and I expect a pretty good game on Sunday.

Obviously, rooting for KC, but partly because an Indy loss likely means we come to your place on Wild Card Weekend.  I've been to Indy a few times for games - not since LOS has opened, though - and have had a blast every time.  I would have liked the end result to be different, but I always look forward to roadtrips to your city.

Rooms are book at the Hyatt Regency, reservations made at St. Elmo's - just waiting for it to become official to buy tickets.  What tunnel does the opposing team enter/exit the field from?  Probably going to try to grab seats near there.

As a n00b, I only have a few posts left - is there any advice you can give me about the stadium, tickets, where to sit, etc?  It would be much appreciated.  And since I won't be able to post again until after the game tomorrow, good luck.  Hope both teams come away healthy.

  15. Well come Sunday you're gonna see just how inept some of our lineman are.  :(

We'll see.  As a KC fan, I certainly hope we can get pressure on Luck - you guys have the kind of WR's that give us fits.  Our DC is stubborn and refuses to roll with anything other than press-man coverage, and when we don't get pressure, we get carved up.
