  1. It's the same logic that was behind throwing the 40 yard bomb in the previous drive that was picked off in the endzone when the running game and short passes had the offense moving along fine. Was it just me, or was anyone else 90% sure that drive would end in a pick? (BTW, coming into this game, Painter had completed 5 of 15 passes thrown over 20 yards.... But what the heck, bombs away!)

  2. yes thats true

people forget Mannings arm was hit on that throw so its not like he intentionally threw the pick, the Colts were missing O lineman that game

Not to mention that Garcon was briefly held on that play which prevented him from coming back on the ball to at least knock it down from the defender.
  3. Because he fumbles....
He's fumbled twice the entire season (86 attempts). Before the Atlanta game, he was averaging 4.1 yards/carry and was averaging just under 5.5 in the 4 games leading up to Atlanta. Then he fumbles once and they yank him for the rest of the game and refuse to use him yesterday for the very reason they drafted him.
  4. Coaching is a big problem, but I honestly think the biggest problem is Painter, He's lead the team to 27 points in the last month!

You're giving him too much credit. 7 of those points were from Powers' pick 6 against Atlanta, so he's only put up a whopping 20 points in 4 games. After showing promise for 4 games, he came crashing back down to Earth pretty quickly.
  5. Favorite Caldwell moment of the night: Reitz signals Saturday to snap it to Painter who isn't ready, Saints recover, AND the Colts get flagged for illegal shift. The camera then shows Caldwell CLAPPING saying "That's alright." Are you kidding me? You had a busted play, a turnover and a flag on the same play. There's nothing "alright" about that.

  6. I'm pretty sure there's still this Manning guy on the sideline who's expected to make a full recovery and has 4 years left on his contract. No doubt that it's a rough and frustrating season for fans and players, but they've shown promise for the past 3 weeks and will no doubt bounce back from this 5 game disaster either this year or next. This is essentially the same team that finished 14-2* and went to the Super Bowl 2 years ago, so all of the pieces are still in place if they can stay healthy. No need to get on the Luck bandwagon and start thinking about rebuilding. If he happens to be available in April when the Colts are on the clock, fine. Pick him up and let him spend 3 or 4 years learning from the greatest ever. But for now, let's all step away from the ledge and just look forward to our first win which is hopefully sooner than later.

  7. And that's absolute nonsense. You feel the offensive line wasn't going to give Painter what he needed in a two minute drill, but somehow think 4th and 5 from your own 25 is a good gamble? What's the difference, besides the fact that the game isn't hinging on one play if you get the ball back in a two minute drill? And you still have the two minute warning to stop the clock again.

Because with 3 timeouts and the two minute warning, you can try to utilize screen passes or a running game that was being somewhat effective. You get the ball back with 2 minutes and no timeouts, you have to throw downfield, they know you're going to throw, and they're going to blitz like crazy which the Colts obviously were not handling well. The game is still going to hinge on one play if you punt, because if they convert a first down, it's over. In some cases, punting is clearly the way to go. But in this case, when you're 0-3, your defense is dismantled and exhausted, you have a better chance at gaining 5 yards than stopping their offense, getting the ball back and trying to drive 75 yards in 2 minutes.

  8. You know what Caldwell decision I didn't like? Accepting the penalty on the 3rd down play that would've otherwise made it 4th and 3 and resulted in a punt and instead accepting it then allowing a 3rd and 9 conversion that kept the Colts on the field

What was the logic behind that anyway?

I don't think you'll find logic anywhere in that scenario. I know, since we have the worst 3rd down defense in the league, let's give the other team another shot at third down. Great idea!

  9. And let's not forget accepting the holding penalty that gave them another shot at 3rd down instead of 4th and 3, or punting on 4th and 1 at midfield with 10 minutes left, or standing there bewildered instead of letting the refs hear about it when Freeney was clearly being held on a key 3rd down at the end of the game.

  10. Worst case scenario if you go for it is that you fail and the game is over. That's why you punt.

Well, they punted and still lost. No way was that patchwork of a D-line going to stop Blount at that point in the game, and no way was that O-line going to allow Painter to run a successful 2 minute drill. At that point, I'll take my chances on 4th and 5 with 3 minutes left and 3 timeouts rather than first down 2 minutes and no timeouts.

  11. Horrible call because it doesn't get you anywhere. Best case scenario is that you make them go 3 and out, they punt. At that point, you get the ball at the same spot you had it only with one less minute on the clock and no timeouts. Horrible, but not surprising.

  12. The guy seems completely lost out there. Last night against the Bucs, the Colts recover a catch and fumble before the ref blows it dead as an incomplete pass. They have a clear shot of it on replay, 2nd quarter, all 3 timeouts left, CHALLENGE IT!!! ...or stand there like a deer in headlights. Then, down by 7 with 3 minutes left looking at 4th and 5, he sends out the punt team. What is there to gain from that? Best case senario, you force 3 and out, they punt it back and now you have it at the same place you had it before, only now with 2 minutes left and no timeouts. At some point, he's going to have to put down his Coaching 101 textbook, think for himself and and take a gamble now and then. I like Caldwell and wish he was a better coach, but someone either needs to light a fire under him or cut him loose. And as a side note to Larry Coyer, when it's 3rd down THEY'RE THROWING IT OVER THE MIDDLE.
