  1. It finally happened--the planets aligned so I was able to get to another Colts game! We're headed to Dallas next weekend to watch the game, and we'll be representing from the Hall of Fame level, just to the left of the goal post. Look for the Colts jerseys and the Colts santa hats! This is my second Colts game to see live--first was one of Manning's "throwaway" games at the Luke against the Titans about 5 years ago. We won, but for what I paid for tickets, I sure would have liked to see more game. I don't think that will be a problem next weekend. These guys are hungry, and the Cowboys are about the last thing standing in the way between them and the playoffs! Hope to see some other 'friendlies' there!

  2. I wouldn't just "assume" that the Cowboys game is a gimme for either side. We're playing in the Jerry Dome, so they're going to have the advantage. However, we've got a couple of receivers that are just itching to break free (TY and Fleener) and a running back that's eating up D-lines everywhere he goes (BOOM). If Luck can keep his hands on the ball and hit his targets, I'd say we have a great chance of wiping the floor up with the Cowboys.

Besides...we HAVE to win. I'm going to the Cowboys game, and I would hate to think I dropped all of that money for a road loss!  :)

  3. After what we all witnessed on Sunday, and the fact that Addai is currently watching on TV like you and I...would it be worth resurrecting Addai in the backfield? I mean...he's GOT to be better than Moore? He's had a rough ride since being released by the Colts last spring. Am I alone here?

  4. I like the thought...but as has been proven numerous times this season, no team can beat any given team on any given day. Yes, I see is defeating Miami or Jacksonville, but on the same token, Arizona beat New England--who saw that coming? Seattle defeats Green Bay? Controversial or not--it's still a W. So, we play hard. Every game. We scream at the zebras, we curse the bad plays, and we cross our fingers. I truly believe in this team. Last night's performance was nothing short of stellar. But can they bring that to the table each and every week for the next 11 weeks? That's alot to ask from a team as young and inexperienced as this one is. You also go on the assumption that we don't lose anyone to injury. They're common with the Colts, and this season is no exception.

We cheer when they win, and we cheer louder when they lose. That's the life of a true Colts fan. I love them as much at 2-14 as I do at 14-2. And with that said...Kill 'em all. Let Goodell sort 'em out.

  5. Thank you for your inspiring and heartfelt story. It is during these hard times when we realize that life really does come down to the people in it and nothing else. Football is entertainment. That is a perspective a lot of us need to keep moving forward. I wish you and yours the best.

  6. My first comment will be of thoughts for Coach Pagano. As Irsay put it: God, Family, Football. And that's as it should be.

With that said, I'm just amazed at the cold feeling of this thread. I mean, do you really expect to be a Superbowl contender this year? Even though we're doing better than the Saints, the reality is, nearly the entire team is new. The coaching staff is new. The front office staff is new. And now, our coach has been diagnosed with leukemia. It's yet another test of our team resiliency. But Arians will do the best he can. He may not be the 'perfect' coach; there are likely many more suited. But that's what we have, and we go with it. Arians is known for being aggressive and an 'air hog' that likes to throw the ball a LOT. So be it. I believe Mr. Manning was also a bit of an air hog, and we all know what he did.

How about we let these guys do the job they're hired and paid to do, and we do the job we're supposed to do--cheer our beloved Colts on, come VICTORY or loss. Arians is in an unenviable position, so it's going to be interesting to see what pans out, but he needs our support just as much as Coach Pagano.

I'm sorry...I'll get off my soapbox now. It just cheeses me off when I see all of the nay-sayers that feel the need to rain on our parade. They aren't ALL negative...but still. The guys will go out and give 110% this weekend just like they do EVERY weekend. Let's hope when our 60 minutes is up that the 'Visitor' has more points than the 'Home'.

Thanks for hearing me out. We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming already in session....

  7. Playoffs???? Playoffs???

    Sorry, couldn't resist.. :D

Seriously, right now, a win is icing on the cake. The main focus right now is to keep on improving each week, establishing continuity, and gaining valuable experience. The Colts should win this game, but as always, anything can happen on any given week. As long as they improve, that is a win in my book.

I think this train of thought--albeit meant in fun--couldn't be more appropriate. I think talk of playoffs at this point in the season (or at all for this young team) is very premature. We should all be prepared to not make the playoffs for a while. It could be 2...3...4 or more seasons before we make it back. Us "old timers" remember back to the pre-Manning days when it was a struggle to make it thru the season, and there were intermittent appearances in the playoffs, only to have the season end too early. Who remembers the pass dropped in the end zone that would have put the Colts in the Super Bowl in the 1996 playoffs vs the Steelers?

Our time is coming. It may not be this season; it may not be next season. But it's coming. We take what we can get. Right now, let's focus on one game at a time, wear our jerseys, our lucky socks, our blue and white face paint, and worship our blow-up Blue in the front yard. Football is meant to be fun--and I, for one, am going to have fun! Cheer for the wins, and cheer HARDER at the losses.

I'm Aaron, and I approve this message.

  8. I'd be a fan if we finished 14-2 or 2-14. Andrew Luck is not going to have a perfect season. We have just gotten so complacent with being in the playoffs year after year and winning year after year during the Peyton era that we don't like to lose. Nobody does. I would say if Luck has a .500 season, we should double or triple his paycheck. I remember Manning's first years made us a bit of a punching bag, too (as stated by the OP). Folks, we didn't get here overnight, and it's not going to fix overnight. Give this brand new team and coaching staff some time.

  9. Being stuck in Kuwait, I have waited for MONTHS for football season to start. Being the new Peyton-free Colts is going to take some getting used to, but I hope Luck is able to step in to some really giant shoes and fill them well.

With that said, Luck should got 5/8-62 yds, 1 TD, 1 INT. He's a great player...but he's very, very green. He needs a little time to ripen up.

  10. OK, so I have an autographed Peyton rookie card, as well as an autographed Eli rookie and an autographed Archie rookie card. They're all in phenomenal condition, but I haven't sent them in to be graded yet. I'm hoping they're worth some $$, but time will tell. As I check out some of the going rates for Andrew autographed rookies, they go anywhere from $100-1000 and up. Think the Manning family rookie cards are worth anything?

  11. As has been said in so many words...the Colts have the potential to be something huge. Will it be this season? Odds say 'no', but that doesn't mean that it won't happen. In true Mora-esque style, "Playoffs?!" I'm following the ponies one game at a time, and looking forward to what the new staff and new crew can put together. It's sad that we've become so uber-accustomed to the Peyton Colts and winning a lot, and that era has come to an end; however, we hope for a new era with Luck, et al. Separately, they're all hard-working, scrappy players. The acid test will come during pre-season when we wait to see if they can bring it together. Perhaps this pre-season, more than any, will actually be worth watching when the Horse is on the field. There will be a lot of eyes on that field--mine included.

I'm just ready for the season to start. Let's get this party started!

  12. Although I am forced to watch NFL games (live) at some God-awful hour of the night because I am in Kuwait, I can promise you that I will be doing that very thing. I am cautiously ecstatic about the prospect of what "the Monster" is going to do this season. I know that they'll make plenty of rookie mistakes, but it's going to be like a huge pot of the best chili--it's chunky and cold at first, but the longer it simmers, the more it gels together and becomes a well-seasoned, spicy hot concoction. That's where we are now--we've got all the ingredients in the pot. The tough part is finding out how long it needs to simmer, and when to stir it up.

Bleeding blue and feeling true--Colts fan for life!

p.s. Kuwait sucks. That is all.

  13. What's worse than 1-13? How about people who question every move that the owners, managers and coaches make? You don't honestly believe the Colts can win 10+ games every season indefinitely, do you? Manning is a football god (lower-case G); we all know this. But it will take another pig in a poke to get someone as amazing as Mr. Manning. Is Andrew Luck the answer? I don't think so. He's a great NCAA player, but this is the NFL. The transition isn't always smooth. We also need offensive and defensive linemen, strong players backing up the lines, and a stronger special teams.

So, you asked what's worse than 1-13? I can go on and on...but you get my point. How about we just continue cheering rabidly, celebrating loudly, and losing gracefully? We had our run--we'll have one again soon. Ask Detroit fans how they would have felt a couple of years ago to be 1-13 at any point in their season.

  14. being 18-1 and only losing the Super Bowl.

This one gets my vote. Keep in mind--the Colts would have been in the same boat two years ago had they taken the non-Caldwell approach and played through the season. We made it to the Super Bowl, only to have our hopes dashed by an * named Hank Baskett. I hope his trashbag wife can keep them afloat, because his NFL career sure won't.
