Manziel isn't ready, that's why not. The plan all along was to have him sit last year until he was ready, unfortunately for everyone involved, Manziel would have rather done drugs and drank every night rather than play football. The bottom line is that he completed only 53% of his passes, fumbled 4 times in two games and threw an INT, McCown got ALL of the first team reps the entire off season and had more passing yeards in one game than Manziel had in two.
I think Manziel can play in this league, but I don't blame the coaching staff for A) not wanting to put him in there when he isn't ready and B) risk going 2-14 and getting fired for a guy who was more concerned with coke and booze than studying his playbook. I just went and looked and he actually took all of those photos down the "I guess you can't study and party" photo off his instagram.
From what I see, from what the coaches and players who destroyed him last year (Joe Thomas), Manziel has done a complete 180 and football is his life now. That doesn't change the fact that he was a completed horses butt all of last season. This isn't about Manziel though.....NO, Manziel might turn out to be the best part....the Browns losing isn't about Manziel.
The Browns losing is about this.
1 - Barkevious Mingo - if he were a 4th round pick he would be off the team by now. Never gained any weight, soft as a babies bottom, can't even set the edge in year 3 much less get any pressure on the QB.
1a - Justin GIlbert - inactive for almost the entirety of his NFL career.
1b - Johnny Manziel - Bench - shows hope, but lost an entire season.
1a - Danny Shelton - Pretty solid, can't complain, our run defense up the middle isn't the problem, it's on the edges.
1b - Cam Erving - backup O-lineman.
5 first round picks in 3 years and we are getting a decent Nose Tackle out of it. We have the worst, by far offensive weapons in the entire NFL. We have no offensive identity. We want to be a power run team, yet we have 3 elite pass blockers on our O-line, with bad QB and ZERO WR threats.
That is the real problem with the Browns. Not Josh McCown. Throwing Manziel out there "just because" is asinine. If he's not ready, there is no reason to put him out there with this horrendous offense to get killed.

This is management's fault. We indicated that the OLine assingments wouldn't change. Yesterday, we moved Mewhort back to LG, bring in Thorton to RG and Reitz to RT. Here we go again. changes, changes. No wonder we can't block effectively! We keep changinf assignments. No continuity! We had shots at obtaining Iupati, Incognito and Mathis and chose to pass. Now we are paying the price. No more changes, please.
This.
I was on this board screaming that Incognito would be the PERFECT fit for the Colts at a bare minimum price!
Incognito and Mathis would have come cheap on one year deals and been PERFECT!

The more I read, the more I see that Grigson is in "save his own hide" mode.
Long term development? Like trading for Richardson? Like taking a WR in the first round? Like Signing Frank Gore and Andre Johnson? Signing an over 30 MLB that the Browns cut?
Ryan Grigson is trying to save himself and if Jimmy isn't still hopped up on pain killers he will be able to see right through this charade.
-
Listen, I know your a Browns fan, and winning the Division might be your life long dream, but we win the division almost every year, it's superbowl or bust here in Indy.
-
hahaha I expected an over reaction but Wow!
The Colts just got done playing probably the best two defensive teams in the entire league. R-E-L-A-X, they will still win the division.
I won't go into too much detail because you already know where the problem lies, Ryan Grigson is a terrible GM. He made the easiest pick in 3 decades in taking Andrew luck and has lost more talent than gained.
I like Pagano, if he gets fired and Grigson doesn't....what a disaster that would be.
-
In today's NFL you had better be ready to win now when you get one of these guys.
-
I would be surprised if this guy ever turns out to live up to his hype. He was Reggie White coming out, he looks more like Courtney Brown.
-
Remember when I came here trying to tell people he didn't have good field vision? I posted screen shots and videos and I was a "troll".
Homers gonna homer.
-
Irvin sure gets a lot of pub for only being a decent player
16 sacks in 3 seasons and I've been hearing about him way too often.
-
Tampa and Tennessee will go after him hard and guarantee a starting gig.
-
Not to say that Dorsette won't be a good player, but it's almost comical how bad Ryan Grigson has been. A first round WR? Are you kidding?
If the Colts had anything but the #1 overall pick in 2012 this guy would be fired.
-
Says the Browns fan, whose team gave a center $8m/year, then drafted a center at #19.
And then the derisiveness toward a "5'10" WR", when Antonio Brown rips the Browns apart twice a year...
Sweet deflection. You talking trash to me doesn't make this pick any less stupid.
-
I think it’s the other way around, your bad defense creates a situation where your offense has to be historic. Tomatoe Tomato
-
I am not reading that wall of text. A 5'10 WR making the defense better is just a terrible premise.
-
At some point, you just have to ask yourself, what the heck is going on here. A wide receiver? What?!
What happened to "power run"? Grigson just scrapping that plan already?
I immediately thought of this forum when I saw they took a 5'10 WR. The only thing dumber would have been them taking a QB in the first.
-
LOL, right position and prediction, just wrong player
Yikes. I think the Browns and Colts picks got mixed up. We took an O-linemen and you took a WR. I don't even.
-
What the hell is this guy talking about. Anyone who isn't a niners fan can see this guy is a buffoon.
-
All depends on if the 40 y/o QB can stay healthy. Gets less and less likely every season.
-
Leave it to the Browns to draft guys that don't love football.
-
I think the rumors have become screams. The arrogance of the Seahawks, they wanted Wilson to be the MVP.
They paid for that mistake.
-
Are they doing another fan vote? Is that how they're going to decide all of them from now on?
Maybe I'm wrong but I thought they haven't done the fan vote since Peyton Hillis won?
-
The Colts are not making the playoffs without Luck. Even in a terrible division.
-
Should be Brady or Watt
-
I do think Tom Brady is better, he definitely did more with less than Manning.
Manning is still great though. I wouldn't take anything away from him.

Football players respect other players who can execute and Incognito has been BURYING people this year already.
