  1. What did Irsay have before Peyton came to Indy?

Indiana was a basketball state - It is clearly now a football state

Indianapolis was a Pacer town - who cares about the pacers now?!?

Basically he had a franchise no better than Jacksonville is now!

Peyton changed all that for Mr. Irsay, would anybody even care about his tweet happy fingers without Peyton? I think not

Manning, without a doubt, greatly contributed to the Colts popularity. But let's not forget one other man, who had contributed as much as Manning. Tony Dungy.

Remember how it was before Dungy's years? Manning needed to score 40 points every game to have a chance to win because Colts had no defense. Would Indy be a Colts-city had Irsay not personally lured Dungy out? Manning would very likely still be scoring 40 points a game, but Colts might not have the same level success that they did and wouldn't be as popular as they are today.

Colts gain popularity, in big part, because Dungy was the face of the franchise for a number of years. He is likeable by most people, players and fans alike.

Ask folks at Tampa Bay, for example, who is the more popular coach there? Gruden, with whom they won a SB, or Dungy, who made the Bucs relevant in the city of Tampa Bay?

I'm not here to discredit Manning nor do I support Luck. But we need to realize that Manning does not single-handedly "build" this city. Could Manning have gone this far without Harrison, Edge, Bob Sanders, Jeff Saturday, Mathis, Freeney, Gary Bracket, Stokley, or even Vanderjagt (yes, that liquored up kicker). Plus all the coaching staff, the front office, the owner, and many other names.

So, does Manning deserve to leave (Colts) when he's ready? Sure, but so does Irsay deserve to decide when Manning needs to leave.

    [edited for clarity and typo]

  2. Yes.... and since they are the home team in the SB I guess that means they use our locker room too.

    Our temple is being defiled!!!

??? Would you prefer the SB being played somewhere else?

This is good for Indy economy. patriots is one of the better scenarios, there'd be no doubt they have a lot of rabid fans who'll follow their team to Indy and therefore spend their money on hotel, food, entertainment, etc. Imagine if it were Dolphins instead, Miami'ans probably care more about Heats than Dolphins, and LOS will be filled with more local people, and locals wouldn't need to spend as much on food & entertainment as out-of-state visitors might.

  3. Right, but a good coach doesn't get caught with his pants down when Peyton Manning is injured.

Well, Tom Moore built the entire offense around Manning. Caldwell, even Dungy, inherited that system. What can you do if you've been, for years, building a system around one component, and one day that component unexpectedly fail?

I'm not saying Caldwell is a good coach, but I'm saying no coach could have saved the Colts this season. Better than 2-14 maybe, but no one could have gotten Colts to the playoffs without Manning under center (this season).

  4. Belichek, does not QUIT. He does'nt care that we don't have a coach or a quarterback! they are going to destroy us. The only reason they might back off is because he feels he has nothing to prove against Caldwell. If we had dungy or a respected coach in this situation he would want to embarrass, that seems to be the he works.

As much as I dislike BB, because he's NE coach, I don't believe his main purpose is to embarrass other coaches. He plays to win. So what if the score is 49-3 by halftime. Having his starters on the field till the final whistle does not mean he's running up the score. Football is a 60 mins game, he gives his all the full 60 mins. It's up to his opponent to match his will for the same 60 mins duration.

  5. "Better than 50% chance" is as meaningful as "has a good chance" or "has a super very incredibly really strong possibility", which does not provide any useful information.

Though after the Panthers game, I wouldn't mind to see PM retires.

PM is too great a QB to be wasted to carry this horrible team next year. He deserves more SB rings and this team lacks the talent to support him. And I can't bear to see PM in another uniform. I know it's a selfish thought, if I can't have it, you can't have it either.

  6. My expectations is lower than when PM was under center.

With PM, when we lost, I'd be depressed for the whole week. With KC or CP, when we lost, I'd only be depressed on the following Monday.

But no I'd never root for the Colts to lose.

Success at college level doesn't automatically translate to success at the NFL level. Andrew Luck has as much chance of being the next Peyton Manning as he is the next Ryan Leaf.

  7. Deion LOL... Peyton put him out of the league, so he gives the Colts no love. A soft team does not win like the Colts have. Finesse, I would accept as they rely on speed over strength.

Constantly throwing your body against another person 30 lbs heavier than you would certainly lead to more injuries. Colts need to get more meatier personnel on both sides of the ball to reduce their injuries percentages.

  8. as a true colts fan (before manning) i would much rather have a complete team then just have manning. and the fo is so....to not have built at least a respectable defence by now for manning his career is at the farewell stage and they failed him. polian is really not that great of a gm if u ask me

Polian Sr was good, but not his kid. If I remember correctly, he let his kid took over most of the day-to-day responsibilities around 06 or 07, that's when things starting going down hill with the busted early round draft picks.

  9. Here's one optimistic view.

Collins, having the best sets of weapons in his entire career, play really well, and the Colts end up hosting AFC championship game. Manning is back to the line up just this week.

Who do you play then? Collins who has been doing very well or Manning the proven QB who hasn't had any chance whatsoever to work with his teammates. The stake is very high, one game into becoming the first ever SB host team.

Our opponent? None others than the Chargers who Manning often struggles against.
