  1. Just listened to Kiper and McShay wrap up with the First Draft Podcast.  Regarding the AFC South, they gushed about Jacksonville and Tenn, glossed over Indy.  Kiper really liked Kerwin Williams, questioned if Werner can play in this defense.  I'm not sure who else Grigs and Chuck went to workout but to my understanding they went to see him more than once.  They would have traded out if they weren't certain.

The one guy that I hoped they would get was Barrett Jones but at the end of the day I'm not sure if Holmes might pan out just as good or better.  Going into this draft I thought they needed to get someone who could provide a pass rush and get more talent for the OL to keep Luck upright. They did that.  In a weak draft they come away with meat and potatoes.  Can't wait for Sept. 8th.

  2. Saw some reports saying the "Patriots got such a haul".  They pretty much got what the trade value chart indicates they should have gotten, unlike years past where they really got teams to reach for their demands.  The Patriots to their credit are sitting where most pundits say is the best spot for this draft with multiple 2nd and 3rd rounders.  It will be interesting to see if they stay at those spots or continue to trade.

BB needs all the picks he can get given his whiff percentage

Right, for all these trades that they have done in years past what are the results?  A lot of DB picks that haven't worked out.

  3. Many here like Warford and rightfully so, but it would be somewhat surprising to see him taken in the first based on most projections.  If they can trade back then I think they can get him there in the 2nd.  Most think Cooper and Warmack will be long gone by 24.  What if Cooper goes at 10 to TN and Warmack is still there at 17?  I think if G is the pick in the first then they have to look at possibly trading up to get Warmack.  Just depend on what they would actually have to give up to move.

  4. I get the impression that they are leaning pretty hard about trading out of that pick unless there is a player at 24 that they just can't believe has fallen that far.  Of course they have to find a willing trade partner and also other teams will be trying to trade back as well.

I wonder how many QB's come off the board before the 24th pick?  I could see Jacksonville going after Geno Smith and Buffalo getting Ryan Nassib.  Maybe not at 2 and 8 respectively, teams might trade up with them to try and get one of the OT's, but they will still be picking before the Colts if they trade back from those spots.

The Colts would seem to be sitting in a decent spot for a team wanting to trade back into the !st to grab a QB.

Maybe Philly trades for the Colts pick at 24 value of (740) and the Colts end up with 35 & 67 (805).

Maybe the Jets trades for pick 24 and Colts get picks 39,72,&141(775.5).

It would be nice if they could ship 24 to the 49ers and pick up picks 34 & 61(836) but it would seem to be the hardest to pull off especially with almost 100 point value difference.

Grigson mentioned that he thought the deepest positions were OL, DL, CB, S in this draft.

  5. If the Colts could trade 24 for 34 and 62 I would say do it, but with a difference of over 90 points in value it might be difficult to pull off.  The Colts would have to probably throw in this years 4th or dip into next year.  Then again with all the picks the 49ers have maybe they would make that move straight up for someone they covet at 24?

If no trade then I would say that draft 2 would be pretty decent but, would change 254 to Theo Riddick from ND.

  6. I would be a bit disappointed if they stay at 24, unless maybe Warmack falls to that spot.

I posted this on another thread, the Colts could trade with Philly and give them 24 in exchange for their 2 & 3.

Then trade that second rounder to the Bills for their 2nd and 4th.

That would have the Colts not picking until 41 overall but gets the two picks backs.

So they end up with picks

    41

    67,86

    105,121

    X

    192

    230,254

The Vikings with the pick before and after the Colts in the first round, it might hurt the Colts chances a little to pull off a good trade.

  7. If at least two of the QB's gone by pick 24 then maybe the Colts can....

Trade pick 24 value = 740 to Philly for picks for picks 35(2) & 67(3) value = 805, Philly might pay the 65 point premium for the guy(QB) they want?

Trade pick 35 value = 550 to Buffalo for picks 41(2) & 105(4) value = 574, Maybe that gets them Nassib?

So the Colts would end up with picks

    41

    67,86

    105, 121

    X

    192

    230, 254

This scenario is on the far fetched side but it would get the Colts two picks that the Colts gave up for Vontae and TY, the trade off being they have to drop down 17 spots before they even get going.

  8. Out of all teams in the 24-32 range, the Colts are the ONLY team without a second round pick. If teams feel they will get a fair shake from the Colts because of that, they are more inclined to call the Colts, IMO.

Instead of a team in the top 10 of round 2 being hard balled to give a 2, 3, and 4 to a team like the Patriots, Falcons, 49ers, or Ravens (like Broncos did with Ravens when McDaniels moved up to draft Tebow), they may need to shell out just a 2,3, and 5 with the Colts. I think it is the third pick that will be the key to pulling off a successful trade back for the Colts. The more sweet the Colts make it, the better off a trade partner they will be.

The big question is, should the Colts be pro-active and send out a notification two picks prior to their pick to certain teams outside the division like the Eagles, Lions, Cardinals, Jets, and Bills drafting in round 2 that they would be willing to trade down for a 2, 3, and 5?

There will be a lot of good options for the Colts at the early part of round 2 and they would recoup the picks that they traded to Miami and SF. I hope a deal like this goes down.

  9. In a recent podcast McShay and Kiper both thought that rounds 2 and 3 will be where really good value will be found.  Not saying that these guys are the best, just a couple of opinions.  I think that the one thing that might hurt the Colts trade value is being sandwiched by the Viking picks?

I don't care where they are drafted, I just hope that Grigson is able to get some players for the OL and pass rush.  Those two spots stood out as a weakness from last year lMO & they still need more talent even after the FA signings.  Grigson is going to trust his board and some of those picks will have some saying NO, NO, NO!!

    Keep Calm and Mock On!

In less than a month we will get to see the Grigson Sampler box of chocolates for 2013.  If he is able to hit on players like last year and some of these FA signings pan out, the Colts will be rolling!
