  1. Luck played very well considering what he was being asked to do. How many runs did the Colts have in the fourth quarter? Everything was put on his shoulders and he did the best with what he was given. The Ravens defense didn't give much the his supporting cast didn't make any big plays. To blame Luck for the Colts' loss is a huge oversight of what really happened.

  2. The biggest difference in this game, imo, will prove to be the home-field advantage and a Ray Lewis-led defense igniting the crowd. The Ravens will kick the ball to start the game, get a quick stop, and the crowd will provide momentum that won't give the Ravens a chance to look back. There are several games that I've been to where the fans quite literally take over the game, I feel like this will be one of them, but if this game were being played in Indy I think it would be very tight.

The Ravens have never been "one and done" under Harbaugh and the Colts have a young team (twenty-eight players without playoff experience). It reminds me of some of the wildcard games the Ravens have played the past few years such as the '08 Dolphins, the '10 Chiefs, or even last year's Texans team in the divisional round. They were all inexperienced in the playoffs, but highly motivated, and they just hit a wall.  I think the Colts are a more battle-tested than those teams, but it will still be tough to overcome what the Ravens and the atmosphere bring on Sunday.

The Colts run defense has really struggled lately and the Ravens defense has been getting it together. Rice has been resting and is poised for a big game. Also, Pierce is a ferocious runner that can come in and Rice is hardly missed. Flacco knows the deal, he’s been here, he’s getting comfortable with Caldwell’s calls (which have been a breath of fresh air from the slow-developing, vertical plays under Cameron) and they’re re-utilizing the no-huddle.

Reed always seems to go on a whole other level when playoffs come around (eight interceptions, sixteen passes defended in eleven playoff games) and Luck has had a tendency to stare down receivers, especially Wayne. If Reed gets an interception, it will greatly change the dynamic of the game.

  3. It's worth mentioning that, while Ray Rice is obviously a major threat, Bernard Pierce, an absolute steal in the third round, has 212 yards rushing in the last two games. He is a very powerful back with 4.3 speed (check his pro day). To win, the Colts have to contain the run and get going early offensively. If their offense comes out flat, the crowd will take over and there will be no looking back.

If you don't think Flacco can throw for 200 - 250, you may be in for a surprise.

I agree with this. Flacco is poised for a good playoffs. Flacco knows the deal, he’s been here, he’s comfortable with Caldwell’s calls, which have been a breath of fresh air from the slow-developing, vertical plays under Cameron (they're running slants!), and they’re reutilizing the no-huddle. While the Colts come in focused on stopping the run, the ball may go over their head.

  4. Ravens should win this game, Colt's are a project in waiting really, ahead of schedule right now.  The prior records don't mean squat, just something to hang onto I guess. PM owned, and still does, the Ravens but that was then this is now.

That is a notable point. It’s been a truly amazing season for the Colts. To go from last to the playoffs is a huge accomplishment. The inspiration that Pagano permeated through the team has undoubtedly fueled some level of success, but I think the Colts would have been a winning team regardless. There is a ton of youth that will grow with the franchise and this team will be a threat for years to come. The Ravens don’t have that luxury as they want to get Ray Lewis and Ed Reed rings now, there’s urgency. I don’t see Ray Lewis’ career ending with a loss – at home – in the first round of the playoffs.

  5. Your defense isn't really that good either. Even when Ray was playing, they were still average. And still will be.

I think you will be surprised by the defense you see tomorrow. The Ravens have slowly, quietly been getting things together. Key players have been getting healthy and the defense is finally buying into coach Peas. Look at how they played against the Broncos (holding Manning to 208 yards) and Giants (almost a perfect game). Of course I could be very wrong. We'll see. I think one important stat to notice is that the Colts have a -11 TO margin and the Ravens have a +8 TO margin.

  6. The Bengals are playing some of the best defense in the NFL right now. Maybe the Texans will get things back on track (particularly with their o-line and secondary), but if they don't they are in for a rough day.

I'd rather play the Broncos in the divisional round. The Ravens played them well a few weeks ago and then things fell apart, but they showed a lot positives (holding Manning to 208 yards and just one TD). The Broncos are on a winning streak that is bound to end and the bye week will halt their momentum, while a win for the Ravens will provide great momentum.

Still have to win tomorrow though!

  7. To be fair to the Ravens' defense, they have allowed the second fewest passing touchdowns this year. For all their struggles through injuries, coaching changes, player changes, they've done pretty well. They've really started to come together over the past month and they've shown flashes of great defense -- now with new, younger faces. I wouldn't be surprised if they really get things going defensively here in the playoffs, especially with the added boost of home-field advantage.

  8. For me, as a Baltimore sports fan, I don't find any benefit in dwelling on the Colts' move.  What happened, happened. It seems silly to wish the worst for an entire city, fan base, and team because of a bitter ending concerning a single ownership. Baltimore has another team now and that's where my heart goes. I don't hold any ill will towards the Colts or Indianapolis. I think the majority of Ravens fans think along the lines that I do, it's just that the that speak out against the Colts get more attention.

  9. The ravens D has not come close to what they use to be. They still have some play makers but that D is getting old. But jawing before a game is no big deal. A lot of guys do it.

This is a common misconception about the Ravens today.  In fact the defense is very young. Other than Ray Lewis and Ed Reed, who is old? Let me run down the list of some of the players.

DE: Art Jones, 26. Pernell McPhee, 24. DeAngelo Tyson, 23. Bryan Hall, 24.

DT: Haloti Ngata, 28. Terrance Cody, 24. Ma’ake Kemoeatu, 33. Kemo was a veteran FA addition.

OLB: Terrell Suggs, 30. Paul Kruger, 26. Albert McClellan, 26. Courtney Upshaw, 23.

ILB: Ray Lewis, 37. Dannell Ellerbe, 27. Josh Bynes, 23. Jameel McClain (starter next to Ray) is on IR, 27

CB: Cary Williams, 28. Jimmy Smith, 24. Corey Graham, 27. Chykie Brown, 26. Chris Johnson, 33. Johnson was a mid-season addition for depth reasons and has played well. Smith missed most of the season. Webb is a stud CB on IR and is 27.

S: Ed Reed, 34. Bernard Pollard, 28. James Ihedigbo, 29. Sean Considine, 30. Omar Brown, 24.

Average age of defensive starters for Sunday: 28

Average age of defensive starters minus Lewis and Reed: 26

  10. Yes, when you factor in the crowd.  If it were in Indy I'd say no. M&T will be absolutely electric.

Missed the second half of the question.

    1. Bengals: They're hot, Texans are cold. Bengals are playing outstanding defensively.

    2. Seahawks: Should be a good one. Seattle's defense is currently one of the best and the Redskins defense is one of the worst. That will be the difference.

    3. Packers: Vikings won last week at home with everything on the line. Ponder won't string together two back-to-back good performances vs the Packers.

    4. Ravens: The Ravens' defense will come to play in a big way (they've started really coming together over the past month).  The crowd will provide overwhelming momentum.
